Chapter 2 Space

An Ning looked at the dirty little girl in front of him and wanted to take a good bath, but her body was covered with wounds, so she could only wash it with hot water, then opened the medicine box and applied some of the medicine she had prepared. Fearing that she would be discovered, she did not dare to stay any longer after doing this and flashed out of the space.

Looking at the shabby room in front of him, An Ning thought about how to improve his family's situation without making a fuss. But before he could figure it out, he fell into a deep sleep. The next day, breakfast was, as expected, another bowl of porridge with rice grains that you could count. An Ning was afraid that Gao would be suspicious, so he picked up the bowl and drank it all in one breath. After breakfast, Gao saw that An Ning had nothing to do, so she carried a basket on her back and went to the mountain to dig wild vegetables, while An Ning's father, An Dashan, went up the mountain to hunt early.

While both of them were away, An Ning looked around the house. This house was really bare. There were three main rooms and two lower rooms. An Dashan and Gao lived in the east room, while An Ning lived in the west room. An Ning also had an elder brother who joined the army before the New Year.

The An family was a military household, and every time a war broke out, one person had to go to the army. Originally, it was supposed to be An Dashan who went, but unfortunately, An Dashan went into the mountains to hunt, and accidentally fell down from the mountain and broke his leg. In desperation, the seventeen-year-old An Yong was sent to join the army in his father's place. Fortunately, An Dashan's boxing and kicking skills were good, and An Yong also learned the true skills from An Dashan, but on the battlefield, swords and knives were blind, and no one could guarantee that An Yong would come back alive.

After An Ning finished walking around the main room, she went to the lower room. The lower room was divided into a kitchen and a woodroom. The firewood in the woodroom was neatly arranged and full. It can be seen that both the An couple are hardworking people.

But when An Ning entered the kitchen and saw that there was only a thin layer of brown rice and half a bag of coarse noodles left in the rice jar, An Ning realized what it meant to be so poor that one could barely afford to eat.

In addition to the rice and flour in the kitchen, there was a half basket of wild vegetables in the corner, and two ceramic jars were found in the cupboard. One of them contained half a jar of coarse salt, and the other contained only the bottom of a jar of lard, which was very little. There was no other food. An Ning had originally thought of taking out some food from the space while An Dashan and his wife were not at home, but her room was filled with refined rice and flour, so it seemed that she had to find another way.

After coming out of the kitchen, An Ning went to the backyard again. She found a hen in the chicken coop in the backyard clucking, probably laying an egg. An Ning hurried over to check and found that there was indeed an egg lying quietly in the chicken coop. An Ning looked at the three hens walking outside the chicken coop, and an idea came to her mind. She took out two more eggs from the space, adding the previous one to a total of three. She took the three eggs to the kitchen together, thinking of eating them in the evening.

Seeing that there was nothing to see in the yard, An Ning returned to her room, closed the door, and slipped into the space. She first took a chicken leg, tore open the package and started eating. She had already digested the porridge, and her stomach was already growling with hunger. After eating the chicken leg, she ate a piece of bread and drank a box of milk. When she felt full, she went to the space again. When she came in yesterday, she only cared about filling her stomach, and didn't pay attention to how big the space was and what was inside.

An Ning looked around and found that not only his own experimental field followed him, but also the experimental fields of several other academicians of the Agricultural College, as well as orchards of various grafted fruit trees, and farms of various poultry and livestock. Although there were not many, they were good in variety. There was also a large open space around, so he should be able to plant by himself. He just didn't know whether it could be planted by mind or needed to be planted manually.

She remembered that there should be a bag of corn seeds in her small storehouse, which she could use for experimentation. So she ran back to her hut and rummaged around for a long time before she found the bag of seeds. She didn't dare to delay and ran back to the empty space she had just been in, thinking to herself, "I want to plant." Unexpectedly, the bag of seeds really disappeared out of thin air, and the soil in the empty space in front of her looked like it had been turned over. An Ning squatted down, dug up the soil in front of her, and found that the seeds were lying quietly in the soil. With this discovery, An Ning was overjoyed and thought to herself, "That's great, I don't have to worry about being hungry in the future." After finishing all this, An Ning's small body was already exhausted and out of breath. An Ning was afraid that Gao would come back, so she didn't dare to stay in the space any longer, and she left the space with a thought.

With nothing to do, An Ning carefully observed her room again. Unexpectedly, she really gained something. An Ning found a few worn books at the bottom of the cabinet where clothes were kept. Although the books were worn out, it was obvious that the owner had preserved them with great care.

An Ning estimated that this should be the book of the original owner's brother An Yong, because in An Ning's memory, An Yong studied with the village teacher for two years. But later, the family was poor and could not afford the tuition, so An Yong was asked to go home to help farm and learn hunting from An Dashan. However, even so, An Yong often went to the window of the village private school to listen to the teacher's lectures when he was free.

An Yong was very talented in studying, and the teacher in the private school liked him very much. He tried to persuade An Yong to continue studying, but An Yong refused because he was afraid of adding burden to his family.

After An Dashan knew about it, he thought deeply all night and decided to try his luck in the mountains. If he could hunt big prey, he would exchange it for money to support An Yong's studies. But things did not go as planned. After An Dashan entered the mountains, he had just hunted a deer and was walking down the mountain happily. Unexpectedly, he was tripped by vines on the ground, fell down the hillside, and broke his leg. This is how An Yong joined the army in his father's place.

An Ning flipped through the books and found that the characters on the books were traditional Chinese characters. As a fan of ancient characters, An Ning knew most of the characters. The three books on the top were "Three Character Classic", "Hundred Family Names" and "Thousand Character Classic", while the two books on the bottom were "The Analects" and "The Great Learning". Now, she had found a legitimate reason to learn to read.

An Ning was flipping through a book when she heard the sound of a door opening. An Ning quickly got up and went out of the house. Seeing that it was Gao who had returned, she smiled and said, "Mom, why did you come back so early today?"

Gao smiled and took out a few bird eggs from the bottom of the bamboo basket, handed them to An Ning as if they were treasures, and said with a smile: "Daya, look what I picked up?"

An Ning cooperated and exclaimed, "Wow!" and said, "Mom, it's a bird egg! You are so amazing!"
