The next morning, An Dashan and An Ning had breakfast, said goodbye to Gao and went out.
Gao shouted from behind: "You two should not go into the deep mountains. Do you hear me?"
An Dashan and An Ning responded in unison and then walked out.
An Dashan and An Ning walked quickly into the mountains without stopping. An Dashan had memorized the way into the mountains, and took An Ning to choose a road that was easier to walk and headed straight into the mountains.
An Ning's eyes were not idle. She carefully looked at the plants around the road, dug out useful ones and put them in her backpack. She found a lot of good things along the way, and what made An Ning most happy was the discovery of wild peppers and Sichuan peppercorns.
You know, in the previous life, An Ning was a person who loved spicy food. In this unknown dynasty, he hadn't eaten it for a long time. An Ning carefully dug up a few pepper trees and pepper seedlings, and dug up a few more when An Dashan wasn't paying attention and put them in the space.
An Dashan looked at An Ning with some confusion and said, "Daya, why are you digging this? This red thing is poisonous. If people eat it, their mouths will swell."
An Ning smiled and said, "Dad, this is called chili pepper. The old immortal really likes to eat it. I was lucky enough to eat it a few times and found that it is really delicious." Then he pointed at the Sichuan pepper and said, "This is called Sichuan pepper. It is both a medicinal herb and a seasoning."
An Dashan said doubtfully, "Really?"
An Ning nodded, put the peppers and peppercorns in her hand into the backpack, and the two continued to walk forward.
The two walked for a long time before they arrived at the place An Dashan mentioned, but An Dashan no longer knew the exact location, so the father and daughter began to look for it separately. An Dashan was afraid of danger, so he never stayed more than ten feet away from An Ning.
Finally, An Ning saw a Ganoderma lucidum with her sharp eyes. She shouted excitedly, "Dad, I found it. Come over here slowly and see if there are any more Ganoderma lucidum around here?"
After hearing this, An Dashan hurriedly and carefully walked towards An Ning, and really found another one not far from An Ning. An Dashan said excitedly: "Daya, there really is a Ganoderma lucidum here."
An Ning had already picked the Ganoderma lucidum and put it in her backpack. When she heard what An Dashan said, she hurried over and saw that the Ganoderma lucidum An Dashan had found was even bigger than the one she had found. She was very happy and then carefully dug it up with its roots.
After picking the Ganoderma lucidum, the father and daughter searched the surrounding area, but they did not find any trace of Ganoderma lucidum. Seeing An Dashan's disappointed expression, An Ning said, "Dad, it is not easy to find one Ganoderma lucidum, not to mention that we picked two this time, which is already very good."
After hearing what his daughter said, An Dashan felt that what she said made sense, so he stopped being disappointed and said, "Come on, Dad will go and hunt a deer for you. The deer meat is extremely delicious. If we hunt it this time, I won't sell it to you. I'll leave it all for you to eat."
An Ning was very happy to hear this. She had never eaten venison in her entire life, so she smiled and said, "Okay, thank you, Dad."
An Dashan patted An Ning's head and said, "I haven't hit it yet, and you're thanking me. What if I don't hit it?"
An Ning smiled nonchalantly and said, "I'm very happy that Dad thinks this way."
The two chatted and laughed as they went to look for the deer, but after searching for a long time, they still couldn't find any trace of the deer. An Dashan struggled with his thoughts for a while, and then decided to go to the hilltop containing poisonous salt. He said, "Daya, I'll take you to the hilltop containing poisonous salt. Animals often lick it there, so we should be able to catch prey."
After hearing this, An Ning's eyes lit up and he nodded. He began to think about how to convince his family that the poisonous salt was edible. Before he could figure out a solution, the two of them came to the barren hilltop. Looking at the hilltop, which covered a large area, An Ning sighed in his heart, these people are really begging for food with a golden bowl in their hands. If so much rock salt is mined and refined, how many people can it feed?
An Dashan didn't know what An Ning was thinking. He was looking for prey with sharp eyes, but there were mostly wild goats, and no deer were seen. An Ning also noticed this phenomenon and said, "Dad, why don't we catch a smaller goat with tender meat? I learned a way to eat mutton from the old immortal. I will cook it for you and mother when we get back."
An Dashan nodded and made up his mind that he would make up for this meal of venison for his daughter no matter what when he had the chance. An Dashan picked a wild goat of moderate size and shot it with an arrow. This kind of wild goat was just an adult and the meat was tender, so An Dashan chose this one.
An arrow hit the goat right in the neck. Seeing this, the other goats ran away. An Dashan stopped shooting arrows. This goat weighed about 100 pounds. If he hunted too many, he would not be able to carry them. It would be better to hunt only this one.
An Dashan ran over and carried the goat on his shoulders. An Ning took this opportunity to pick up a few stones and put them into the space, planning to transfer them to the backpack when she returned. She wanted to try to see if she could extract refined salt.
An Dashan walked up to An Ning and said to her, "Let's go back quickly, or your mother will be worried."
An Ning only then remembered that the two of them had secretly escaped into the mountains, and would surely be greeted by her mother's violent storm upon returning. It seemed that she needed to think of a countermeasure carefully. If it really didn't work, she would have to take the blame on An Dashan. After all, it would be better for me to die than for my fellow Taoist to die!
