It took a total of five days to build the courtyard wall. The wall was about two meters high and was covered with thorns. The gate was a thick wooden gate that An Dashan specially asked a carpenter to make. It was very imposing.
The front yard was also paved with blue bricks according to An Ning's requirements, and a small flower bed was left in the middle of the yard, where some flowers and plants would be planted next spring to add a unique flavor. The backyard was a large open space where vegetables could be grown and chickens could be raised. Most importantly, An Ning thought that when there were more rabbits, a row of backyard houses could be built on the backyard wall to raise rabbits.
An Ning looked at the brand new yard and felt a great sense of accomplishment. Thinking that she would soon move in, she felt a little excited.
An Dashan once again went to the village chief's house with gifts. When he arrived, it was the village chief's wife who opened the door. Seeing An Dashan coming, the village chief's wife said, "Dashan, come in quickly. Have you finished your housework?"
An Dashan said, "Well, everything is done. I came here today to ask the village chief to help me choose a good day to move."
The village chief's wife said, "We should choose a good day. We can't be careless about moving."
The two walked into the house while talking. The village chief had heard their conversation in the house. When he saw them coming in, he said, "It's just a day, why are you bringing anything? We are all from the same village, it's too formal."
An Dashan put the things down and said, "It's not a valuable thing. Please ask the village chief to help choose a good day."
The village chief nodded and said, "I had expected you to come, so I picked a good day for you in advance. However, this day is a little far away, on the 16th of next month, but it is a very good day."
An Dashan thought that it would not be too cold on the 16th of next month, so he nodded and said, "Thank you, village chief uncle. We will move on the 16th of next month. We will have a banquet at home that day. You and your family must go to show your support."
The village chief narrowed his eyes and smiled, saying, "I will definitely go, I will definitely go."
An Dashan got the moving date and left.
The village chief looked at An Dashan who was leaving and said, "The An family is about to rise. Tell the younger generation in the family to have a good relationship with the An family and never offend them."
The village chief's wife nodded and said, "The Dashan family is easy to get along with. As long as our family doesn't deliberately make trouble, there won't be any conflicts."
An Dashan returned home. An Ning saw An Dashan and asked, "Dad, how is it going? Have you chosen a date?"
An Dashan nodded and said, "It's chosen. The date is set for the sixteenth of next month."
An Ning nodded and said, "That's fine. The house is still a little damp. Let's use the brazier more often these days to get rid of the moisture."
An Dashan said: "There may not be much charcoal left at home. I will go and burn some more when I have time."
An Ning thought for a moment and said, "Dad, why don't we try to plant winter wheat first."
An Dashan had almost forgotten about this matter, but after An Ning reminded him, he remembered it and said excitedly: "Daya, can this really be accomplished?"
An Ning knew that this was unbelievable for an ancient man like An Dashan, so he said, "Dad, if you don't believe me, you can try it on our three acres of fertile land. If it works, it won't be too late to plant it next year."
An Dashan thought it was just a waste of seeds, so he gritted his teeth and said, "Okay, let's plant tomorrow. I'll make charcoal after we finish planting."
An Ning nodded and said, "Okay, let's go plant together tomorrow."
Gao walked out of the door and saw the very excited father and daughter. She asked in confusion, "What's wrong with you two? You're so happy. Tell me about it and it will make me happy."
An Dashan first told her that the moving date was set for the 16th of next month, and then he told her that An Ning wanted to plant winter wheat. Gao was so shocked that her eyes widened and she said, "Daya, this is something I have never heard of. How sure are you?"
An Ning thought for a moment and said, "Mom, this method was taught to me by an old immortal. I am 70% sure that I can succeed."
Gao and An Dashan looked at each other, then turned to An Ning and said, "Daya, since that's the case, you should go and give it a try. What if it works?" So the whole family decided to grow winter wheat.
The next day, Gao got up early and made breakfast. After the three of them finished eating, they harnessed the mule cart, loaded the cold-resistant wheat seeds and farming tools that An Ning had already replaced, and went to the three acres of fertile land in front of An Dashan's house.
After harvesting the wheat, An Dashan spread all the fermented fertilizer at home on the fields. Now, several people went to the fields and started planting directly.
An Dashan put on the plow and plowed the field in front, while An Ning and Gao Shi sowed in the back. The three of them worked well together and finished planting three mu of land in one day.
Some villagers saw An Dashan's family farming at this time and advised him not to waste his effort and seeds. Seeing that An Dashan and his family did not listen, they shook their heads and left.
An Dashan's planting at this time really caused an uproar. When the villagers met him, they would say, "Hey, you know what? Dashan might be crazy. He is planting at this time. Isn't this a waste of seeds?"
Another person will chime in: "Yeah, yeah, I think he's lost his mind."
Although the villagers talked about it behind their backs, they would not mention the matter in front of the An family. After all, no one wanted to offend the An family.
When the village chief learned about this, he said to his eldest son, "Go to the An family and ask them about it. If this is feasible, we will plant one acre of rice and try it out."
His eldest son looked at his father in disbelief and said, "Dad, are you crazy too? There has never been such a thing since ancient times. An Dashan must have gone insane."
The village chief looked at his cowardly son, shook his head and said, "Since you don't want to go, I'll go there myself." After that, he got up and walked out the door towards the An family.
When the village chief arrived at An's house, he saw An Dashan carrying a machete and about to go up the mountain, so he asked, "Dashan, where are you going?"
When An Dashan saw that it was the village chief, he quickly put down his machete and said, "Winter is coming soon. We don't have enough charcoal at home. I want to go to the mountain to chop some wood to make some charcoal."
After hearing this, the village chief felt uncomfortable. An Dashan was really good at everything, unlike his two sons who only knew how to farm.
Seeing that the village chief didn't say anything, An Dashan asked, "Is there something that has happened to you, village chief?"
The village chief came back to his senses and said, "Dashan, I came here this time because I have something to ask you."
After hearing what the village chief said, An Dashan quickly said, "Then let's go inside and talk!"
