Chapter 150 New Developments in Life

When Jiang Tang returned to the house, Xiao Ye and Xiao Tu came running over happily.

Jiangtang hugged this and that, rubbing her arms for a long time before she sat down at the table, picked up her pen, and concentrated on writing her plan. Sunlight streamed in through the window, illuminating her figure as she wrote furiously. A profound transformation, crucial to the future prosperity of Shaluo Village, quietly began.

The next morning, sunlight shone through the mottled leaves onto the ground, forming patches of golden light. Jiang Tang stood at the door and stretched lazily: "It's another nice day."

Liu Xiulan surrounded Xiaoye and Xiaotu, who were not very close to her, and glared at her unhappily: "Hurry up and eat, it's already half past seven. The villagers go to work at around four in the morning and are back for breakfast now. I have already made an appointment with Zhang Laoer, so hurry up."

Seven thirty! She used to sleep until she woke up naturally, but now seven thirty is considered late.

Jiang Tang washed his face and brushed his teeth with his messy hair, quickly finished his meal, and accompanied his mother to Zhang Laoshuan's house to buy a chicken.

"Is Uncle Zhang at home?" It was Jiang Tang's first time to visit Zhang Laoshuan's house. The gate was open, so she shouted at the door.

"Yes, come in."

The yard seemed a bit messy, but it was full of life. Zhang Laoshuan, a lonely widower in his fifties, with a slightly hunched figure and a simple smile on his face, greeted them warmly: "Secretary Xiao Jiang, Xiao Jiang's mother, come in quickly. I'll take you to see the chickens."

In a corner of the yard, Jiangtang's attention was drawn to a simple contraption made of several clay pots. Upon closer inspection, they turned out to be rabbit hutches. The pots varied in size, some still damaged, and had been simply tied together with strips of cloth by Zhang Laoshuan. Zhang Laoer had barely covered the openings of the pots with wooden boards, leaving a slightly irregular gap as an entrance.

"Hey, Uncle Zhang, when did your family start raising rabbits?" Jiang Tang asked curiously.

Zhang Laoshuan chuckled, scratched his head and said, "Since everyone in the village is making money raising rabbits, I'm thinking of raising a few too. I'm not very strong and can't do heavy work, so I thought raising a couple of rabbits would help supplement the family income."

Jiang Tang approached the rabbit cage for a closer inspection and discovered the gaps were even more serious than she'd imagined. "Uncle Zhang, the gaps in your rabbit hutch are too big. If the rabbits get their feet stuck, they could easily get hurt. And the pot isn't placed very securely. If it falls, the rabbits will be in danger." She frowned, gesturing with her hands, and continued, "Also, the wooden cover isn't tight enough. The cold winter wind could easily catch a cold and make the rabbits sick."

Zhang Laoshuan got a little anxious when he heard this. "Oh, Secretary Jiang, I really hadn't noticed this. I just thought I had these pottery jars at home and it would be a shame to throw them away, so I used them to build a nest for the rabbits. What do you think I should do?"

Jiang Tang thought for a moment and said, "How about this, Uncle Zhang, you can find some thin wooden strips to reinforce the gaps and reduce the distance between them. Also, put some hay at the bottom of the rabbit cage to keep it warm and prevent the rabbits from getting cold from direct contact with the ground. As for the pottery jars, you can find some bricks or stones to pad them firmly so they won't tip over easily."

Liu Xiulan's mother nodded in agreement: "Jiang Tang is right, Zhang Laoshuan, don't underestimate these details, otherwise if you don't raise the rabbit well, your efforts will be in vain."

Zhang Laoshuan quickly responded, "Okay, Secretary Jiang, thanks for reminding me. I'll do as you say."

Jiang Tang also discussed with Zhang Laoshuan some matters needing attention in rabbit breeding, such as the combination of feed and the cleaning of the rabbit house. Zhang Laoshuan nodded repeatedly and said gratefully, "Mr. Jiang, you know a lot. If I have any questions about breeding in the future, I will ask you for advice."

Jiang Tang smiled and waved her hand: "Uncle Zhang, we are all from the same village, so we should help each other. If you have any questions, just ask. Let's raise the rabbits together."

After buying the chickens, Jiang Tang and Liu Xiulan's mother left Zhang Laoshuan's house. As they walked along the road, Liu Xiulan's mother said with emotion, "Jiang Tang, since you've come back, there have been new changes everywhere in the village. Look, Zhang Laoshuan's family has also started raising rabbits. Our village will definitely get better and better in the future."

Jiang Tang looked at the fields in the village and said confidently: "Mom, as long as we work together, Youcaoling Village will definitely become more and more prosperous." The sunlight shone on the two of them, outlining a picture full of hope, and the future of Youcaoling Village, like the rising sun, is full of infinite possibilities.

...

"Tangtang, is something wrong at home?" Lu Cheng held the receiver, his brows slightly furrowed, his voice filled with a hint of doubt and concern.

He had just finished the work at hand when he received a call from his sister and thought there was an emergency at home.

"Mom asked me to ask about my future sister-in-law. Big brother, what's her name? Where is she from? If you have a photo, please send one to us. Can you bring her home this year?" Lu Tang's string of questions came out of the receiver like a cannon. Lu Cheng smiled helplessly, his lips curled up unconsciously: "You ask questions one after another, I don't know which one to answer first."

He knew his sister's impatience very well. Every time she was like a little cannonball, it was hard to handle.

"You only said that you were dating, and didn't reveal anything else. Mom has talked about Dad several times." Lu Tang muttered on the other end of the phone, with a little complaint in his tone. It was obvious that he was not very satisfied with his elder brother's "secrecy" behavior.

Lu Cheng sighed and rubbed his aching temples. He had been so busy with work lately that he was like a spinning top, and he really couldn't spare the time to deal with personal matters. He said patiently, "Her name is Meng Si Ning, she is from Xinliang City, and she works as a reporter for Xinliang Daily. Her father is Meng Changli, and her mother is Si Youyuan. You can tell your father about her, and he should know. There is no photo yet, but I will ask her for one later." Speaking of Meng Si Ning, his eyes unconsciously revealed tenderness.

"She's from Xinliang, and a reporter? Brother, you didn't meet her during this competition, did you?" Lu Tang's voice was full of curiosity, and her tone unconsciously rose a few degrees. She was full of gossip about her brother's love life.

"Yes, your sister Tingting has seen her." Lu Cheng responded simply.

"Really? I'll go ask Sister Tingting this afternoon."

"I'm not at home, so you and the second oldest child should take care of our parents. Thank you for your hard work." Lu Cheng's tone was filled with a hint of guilt and gratitude. Due to work reasons, he couldn't always be with his parents, so he could only rely on his younger siblings to take care of them.

"Brother, don't worry. Mom and Dad are in good health. But you should take care of yourself when you are out there alone." Lu Tang reminded him with concern. Although she usually likes to joke, her concern for her brother is sincere.

"I understand." Lu Cheng responded and hung up the phone. There was still a gentle smile in his eyes, which was the expression he had when he thought of Meng Si Ning.
