The carriage continued towards the palace, and a silence fell over the interior.
Bai Mengying glanced at Ye Zerui, who was resting with his eyes closed, several times before finally deciding to tell him what Qiao Zixi had told her earlier.
"Cousin... Qiao Xiuyuan probably already knows about the plan I devised to injure Qiao Zixi's face back then..."
The sound was faint, like that of mosquitoes and flies, trembling slightly.
She then repeated exactly what Qiao Zixi had just told her, word for word.
If she didn't speak up now, and things really went wrong because of her in the future, she feared that Ye Zerui would torture her to death.
Upon hearing this, Ye Zerui slowly opened his eyes, his gaze turning cold, and he couldn't help but sneer: "Heh! My dear cousin really does love to do stupid things!"
"Cousin, I was wrong! I was young and ignorant back then, and I did something stupid out of jealousy. I promise I will never do anything without permission again, and I will never cause you any trouble!"
Unexpectedly, Ye Zerui suddenly said, "In that case, you should give up your inappropriate thoughts, obediently marry Qiao Ziming, and stop thinking about annulling the engagement."
Bai Mengying looked up in surprise.
How did Ye Zerui know she wanted to break off the engagement?!
Should we force her to obediently marry Qiao Ziming?
She doesn't want to!
"...I don't want to marry Qiao Ziming, that cripple."
"Since this marriage was something you painstakingly planned for, even if Qiao Ziming is now completely crippled, you still have to obediently marry into the Marquis of Anyang's household. You chose this path, and now that you've embarked on it, there's no turning back."
Ye Zerui spoke calmly, but his words left no room for argument.
Seeing Bai Mengying's unwilling expression, he secretly sneered.
I'm afraid that even if Bai Mengying wanted to get married now, Qiao Ziming wouldn't be willing to marry her!
Unfortunately, his older brother is not interested in women, otherwise his good cousin could have been a lucky break for him!
Su Muxi went home early, and the happiest person was Aunt Zhong.
"Miss, you must eat more tonight. We promised to make up for the weight you've lost, but you're getting thinner and thinner!"
With that, he ran to the kitchen, looking ready to show off his culinary skills.
Su Muxi shook her head with amusement, then turned around and met Su Xing's somewhat worried eyes.
"Father, what's wrong?"
Su Xing gestured for Su Muxi to sit down, then hesitated for a moment before asking, "Xi'er, I've heard all the rumors outside. I'm afraid someone is unhappy with your marriage to Prince Yong'an and is deliberately spreading them."
"Although the eldest prince has been granted the title of Prince of Yong'an and seems to be enjoying a glorious life on the surface, I'm afraid he won't end up with a good fate. His request to marry you is probably for some ulterior motive..."
"Why don't you write a letter home, Dad, and ask them to think of a solution?"
"If Prince Yong'an wants to compete with the Second Prince for the throne, he will always need money to smooth things over in court. The Su family may not have much else, but they certainly have plenty of silver. The only question is whether the amount offered will satisfy Prince Yong'an..."
Su Muxi thought of Ye Zeyu's aloof and unapproachable demeanor, and found it hard to associate him with greed.
Besides, Father has been away from the family for many years, so why would the family members take out so much money for no reason?
If it were given to Ye Zeyu, there's no guarantee that Ye Zerui wouldn't hold a grudge.
So sending a letter to the Su family would only make them laugh.
As for her marriage to Ye Zeyu, although it was a headache, Su Muxi put on a relaxed expression.
"Father, I will find a way to resolve the marriage between me and Prince Yong'an. If it is really impossible to cancel the marriage, I can just marry into Prince Yong'an's mansion."
"Actually, if you think about it carefully, Prince Yong'an is tall and handsome, and he is also a prince. If this marriage were to be arranged by someone else, they would probably return to their hometown overnight to worship their ancestors and burn incense to thank them!"
Su Xing sighed inwardly.
To outsiders, the marriage seemed like a good match, but he knew that Prince Yong'an couldn't give his daughter what she wanted.
If his daughter's identity were exposed, it's hard to know what the Prince of Yong'an would think.
He just couldn't understand why all those big shots, in their scheming and plotting, had to target his daughter!
Thinking this, Su Xing's brows furrowed even deeper.
Seeing this, Su Muxi reached out and gently smoothed Su Xing's furrowed brows. "Father, please don't overthink it. Things will work themselves out. I've never done anything wrong, and Heaven won't mistreat me. But have you received a reply to the resignation letter you sent to the Imperial Hospital?"
Su Xing shook his head. "Academician Sun died suddenly, and no one has taken over the position yet, so no one will accept his resignation. I'm afraid we'll have to wait a few more days."
Seeing that she had successfully changed the subject, Su Muxi smiled and said, "It's alright, then we'll wait a few more days."
He then discussed medical issues with Su Xing.
Mentioning medical skills, Su Xing perked up and stopped thinking about anything else, which made Su Muxi secretly chuckle and shake her head.
But when dinner was served, Su Muxi shook her head with a wry smile.
"Aunt Zhong, I really can't eat anymore."
Seeing this, Zhong Bo couldn't help but speak up for Su Muxi.
"Do you want to fatten up the young lady all at once? Now that she's back, why worry about her not getting fat?"
Aunt Zhong put down her chopsticks, a hint of worry on her face. "But Miss is getting married again next month. I wonder if the cooks in that Prince's mansion will suit her taste, and whether that Prince Yong'an will mistreat her..."
Uncle Zhong kicked Aunt Zhong under the table. Seeing that the atmosphere at the table had suddenly become silent, Aunt Zhong smiled and served Su Muxi a bowl of soup.
"If Miss can't eat, then have a bowl of soup."
Looking at the layer of oil floating on the soup, Su Muxi really didn't want to drink a drop, so she pushed the bowl in front of Su Xing.
"Dad, you should drink more pig's feet soup; it'll be good for your legs."
