Chapter 10 Sleep with Me
After bandaging Gu Ye's wound, Chu Yan went to the guest room to confirm that A Liang had just fainted and had some minor skin injuries, and that it was nothing serious. Then he gently closed the door.
Back in the living room, Gu Ye looked extremely miserable, his face was frighteningly pale, and his usual arrogance was completely gone, leaving only pain and fatigue.
"The guest room is for Aliang," Chu Yan said, his eyes darting between the master bedroom and the guest room, then he looked at Gu Ye very naturally, his tone as if asking "what are you having for dinner?"
"So who are you going to sleep with tonight?" He tilted his head slightly, his eyes were quite calm, but if you looked closely, he seemed to be thinking a little, "The bed in my room is big enough for two people." He added, his voice was very steady and no other meaning could be heard.
Gu Ye's breath was choked!
Sleeping in the same bed with Chu Yan? !
This thought struck his chaotic mind like a bolt of lightning! He suddenly looked up and glared at Chu Yan, his glazed eyes filled with shock and resistance, "Are you fucking kidding me?!" Sleeping with Chu Yan?! He would rather sleep on the sofa! No, even the floor would be fine!
But he glanced around the living room—it was spacious and bright, but also cold. The sofa was one of those hard, designer ones, lacking even a piece of fabric, let alone a quilt or pillow. Then he looked at his injuries, the pain in his ribs making him gasp. Should he curl up on the sofa all night? That would probably be worse than another beating.
Sleeping on the floor? This smooth marble? Gu Ye felt a pain in his bones just thinking about it.
Guest room? Ah Liang is lying there in a big mess!
It seems there is really no other choice.
Gu Ye's heart was in turmoil. Resistance, frustration, and an indescribable embarrassment, mixed with the pain in his body, made his face turn red and white. He bit his lip so hard that it almost broke. Chu Yan looked at him so calmly, as if waiting for his decision but also as if he saw through everything. It was so fucking annoying!
Time passed slowly.
In the end, the pain in his body and his instinct to lie down prevailed. Gu Ye struggled to squeeze out two words from his throat, his voice dry and hoarse, filled with the grief and indignation of "I admit defeat":
He immediately turned his face away, staring at the floor as if the tiles could bloom. The tips of his ears uncontrollably turned red, and even the base of his neck felt hot.
Chu Yan looked at him, clearly feeling extremely awkward but having to bow his head. A glimmer of triumph flashed across his eyes, too quick to grasp. His face remained gentle and harmless, and he even nodded considerately, "Okay."
He turned and walked into the master bedroom without saying anything more. Gu Ye took a deep breath, dragging his legs that felt like they were filled with lead, and followed him in resignedly.
Chu Yan's master bedroom was as neat and tidy as he was. A large bed took center stage, covered in expensive-looking dark grey sheets and quilts. The air was filled with a faint, clean scent, the same as Chu Yan's.
Chu Yan walked to the wardrobe and opened it. Gu Ye stood at the door, feeling uncomfortable and not knowing where to look.
Chu Yan took out a brand new set of dark blue silk pajamas from inside. The material looked soft and smooth. He walked over to Gu Ye with the pajamas and handed them over.
"It's new, I've never worn it." Chu Yan's voice was gentle, with a bit of concern, "You have injuries on your body, and it must be uncomfortable to sleep in the school uniform. Go take a shower and change, and be careful not to touch the wound." His eyes fell on Gu Ye's torn, dirty and bloody vest, and his meaning was obvious.
Gu Ye looked at the silky pajamas handed to him. The feel was so slippery that he could feel it through the air. He stiffly stretched out his uninjured left hand to take it. His fingertips touched the cool, silky material, and the awkwardness in his heart became even stronger. Wearing Chu Yan's pajamas felt really weird!
Chu Yan seemed oblivious to his hesitation. He turned and took out another set of smoky grey silk pajamas of the same style but in a different colour from the wardrobe. The material looked softer and more fitted, clearly something Chu Yan himself often wore. He draped the pajamas over his arm quite naturally.
"The bathroom is inside," Chu Yan pointed to the bathroom in the master bedroom, "Go take a shower first."
On the spacious bed, two figures occupied each side, separated by an invisible, horse-wide barrier. The darkness magnified the senses, but also a certain indescribable awkwardness.
Gu Ye froze, trying not to touch his wounds, and even more afraid to touch the people next to him. He was clearly exhausted, but his mind was unusually clear. During the day, he was arguing with this guy, wanting to strangle him to death, and at night, he was lying in the same bed? This turn of events was too fucking magical. The air was so quiet that he could hear his own heartbeat, and the steady breathing of Chu Yan next to him made it even more awkward.
A light cough suddenly broke the silence from Chu Yan's side. His voice was a little low in the darkness, with a casual, chatty tone, "You've done quite well today."
Gu Ye didn't expect him to mention this. He was stunned for a moment before replying sullenly with a hint of self-mockery: "It's okay. In the end, it still depends on you." Thinking of Chu Yan's ruthlessness in taking care of three people in an instant, he is still a little confused.
"Me?" Chu Yan's voice sounded quite calm, even with a little imperceptible alienation, "My situation doesn't count." He paused, as if choosing his words, "The training methods are different, so there is no reference value." He thought to himself that the instincts forged from struggling on the brink of life and death and tempered in blood and fire were indeed different from Gu Ye's street fighting, but he had never thought of letting Gu Ye follow his path. After all, Gu Ye would be the one in charge of the Gu family in the future, and he only needed to have the ability to protect himself.
Gu Ye didn't respond, his brow furrowed in the darkness. "Not counted?" What did that mean? He instinctively felt Chu Yan had something else in mind, but he couldn't grasp the point.
After a brief silence, Chu Yan spoke again, his tone much more relaxed, with a hint of negotiation: "However, you have a good foundation, quick reactions, and enough strength. It's just that your methods are a bit wild, which makes you vulnerable. If you really want to practice, I can teach you something practical."
"Teach me?" Gu Ye was genuinely shocked. He tilted his head, glancing at Chu Yan's blurry silhouette in the dim light. "You're going to teach me how to fight?" This was too outrageous, wasn't it?! A "good student" who forced him to study every day was going to teach him how to fight?!
"Hmm," Chu Yan replied, a hint of a smile in his voice, sounding a bit mischievous. "Anyway, I have to watch you study during the day, so learning another 'self-defense technique' at night to strengthen your body is not a waste of time."
Gu Ye was simply choked by his logic and blurted out: "...Are you sick?" Torturing him with studying during the day and then torturing him with "self-defense skills" at night, a double blow to his body and mind?
"Hmm?" Chu Yan's voice was filled with a hint of amusement. "Why, are you scared? Or do you think double torture is enough?"
If this had been said a few days ago, Gu Ye would have cursed back without hesitation, concluding that Chu Yan was a psychopath. But now, lying in the same bed, feeling the neatly bandaged wounds on his body, his mind flashing back to the ghostly, fierce figure of the other person in the alley, the unwavering disgust in Gu Ye's heart became a little vague for the first time.
He fell silent. In the darkness, only his own ragged breathing could be heard.
Scared? Not really. Just confused. He felt an unprecedented sense of bewilderment at Chu Yan, this man who had suddenly intruded into his life, with countless faces and whose behavior defied common sense. What was he trying to do? Help him study? Save him? And now teach him how to fight? This man's behavior was like a tangled mess, with no clear thread to connect.
In the end, Gu Ye didn't get angry and refute like before. He just hummed a vague syllable from his nose with a bit of resigned fatigue: "Whatever you want."
After saying that, he immediately turned around and stared at the ceiling again, as if he wanted to see through it.
In the darkness, Chu Yan seemed to silently curl the corners of his mouth. He closed his eyes and his breathing gradually became steady.
Gu Ye listened to the even breathing, and the pain in his body seemed to slowly ease along with his tense nerves. His mind was still swirling with chaotic thoughts, but his physical exhaustion finally took over. He closed his eyes and forced himself to not think about the people around him, not think about those messy things.
Night, in a subtle and complex silence, finally swallowed up the last bit of clear consciousness in the room.
