Chapter 179 Tavern

The tavern was filled with the mixed smells of cheap beer, sweat, and tobacco, and was bustling with noise.

Linde chose a corner spot against the wall, with his back to most of the view. In front of him was a large glass of ale, which he sipped slowly, seemingly enjoying a rare moment of leisure.

Activate your vision silently.

The tavern was mostly filled with murky gray-white lights, representing ordinary souls.

Soon, three dark, shimmering spots, resembling oil stains in sewage, were precisely located:

A bartender wiping glasses at the bar, his movements seemed quick, but his eyes were too unfocused;

A mercenary playing dice in a corner seemed distracted, whether winning or losing.

There was also a drunkard loitering near the entrance, his steps unsteady, but with each stumble he subtly adjusted the angle from which he observed Lind.

'All three... are here.' Linde sneered inwardly.

He casually twirled his glass, the glass blurring the reflection of the bartender's movements behind him.

Time slowly passed amidst the noise.

Linde had downed half of the ale in front of him.

He deliberately yawned, appearing somewhat sleepy, and leaned back against the rough wooden wall, his body slightly relaxed.

Just then!

Suddenly, the bartender at the bar accidentally broke a ceramic cup. The crisp sound of shattering was not abrupt in the noise, but it was like a signal!

The mercenary playing dice in the corner suddenly overturned the table, scattering wood chips and dice everywhere! He didn't rush towards Lind, but instead drew a poisoned short blade and pounced like a viper towards a group of seemingly unsuspecting guests at the next table, creating even greater chaos!

"Murder!"

"Damn! What's going on?"

The tavern erupted in chaos! Terrified screams, angry shouts, and the clatter of tables and chairs filled the air! The crowd surged about like a school of startled fish!

Almost at the same instant, the "drunkard" at the door suddenly flashed a fierce light in his eyes, and there was no trace of drunkenness left!

Like an arrow released from a bow, his body burst forth with speed far exceeding that of ordinary people, and under the cover of the chaotic crowd, he rushed straight towards Lind!

A jet-black dagger, devoid of any luster, slid out from his sleeve, exuding a chilling aura, and lunged straight at Lind! The angle was cunning and ruthless, and it was utterly silent!

The mercenary who overturned the table, after creating chaos and attracting attention, suddenly twisted his body, his poisoned blade drawing a strange arc, and together with the "drunkard's" frontal attack, stabbed at Lind's ribs from the side!

The two worked together seamlessly, clearly a well-trained assassination duo!

The real killer move came from behind Lind!

The bartender who had been "wiping" the glasses, in the instant the chaos erupted, slid silently across the bar counter like a boneless mollusk, stealthily moving along the shadows on the floor!

What he held in his hand was not a dagger, but a thin, long bone spike with a tip that shimmered with eerie green runes!

His target was Lind's nape! His trajectory perfectly avoided the chaos of the crowd, like a scorpion in the shadows, launching the most lethal attack!

Triple assassination! A frontal assault creates chaos to draw attention, a poisoned blade flanks to restrain the attackers, and the real fatal blow comes from the shadows behind! Precise, ruthless, and perfectly coordinated!

Ordinary nobles would surely die in such a meticulously designed series of deadly traps!

However, they were facing Lind.

The moment the bartender accidentally broke the ceramic glass, Lind's "bright halo" was instinctively lit up in his mind!

The pure light pulses illuminated everything inside the tavern, while simultaneously dissolving the power emanating from the Shadow Abyss.

Just as the "drunkard's" dagger was about to touch the cloak, Lind moved!

Instead of turning to block, he leaned forward like a ghost! The thrust, imbued with the assassin's full power and determined to strike, grazed the edge of his cloak and missed!

Almost simultaneously, the mercenary's poisoned blade was blocked by Lind's gold-level battle aura.

"What?!"

A look of horror flashed in the mercenary assassin's eyes as the Shadow Abyss Power he had applied to his dagger to neutralize his fighting spirit vanished.

Just as he was running out of strength and hadn't yet generated any new power, Lin De swiftly grabbed his wrist holding the knife with lightning speed!

"Ugh—!"

The powerful force swung him up and slammed him into the bartender behind him.

The sound of a sharp weapon piercing flesh rang out.

"Ugh—!"

The mercenary assassin only had time to shout before he was reduced to ashes by Shadow Abyss's immense power.

The bartender was then punched hard on the back of the neck by Lin De and passed out.

The only remaining "drunken" assassin who could still stand was temporarily blinded by the sudden burst of holy light, but the screams of his companions that he heard were unmistakable!

He reacted extremely quickly, throwing the black dagger in his hand toward Linde while simultaneously retreating rapidly, trying to break through the window and escape!

"Trying to leave? No way, meow!"

A rapid thumping sound came from the shadows beneath Lind's feet, from which Nix leaped nimbly, heading straight for the drunkard.

Just a moment later, a soft "plop" sound was heard.

The drunkard's head flew into the air, splattering blood everywhere.

The chaos in the tavern was ended in a few breaths by an even more horrific massacre.

Everyone was stunned by this sudden and dramatic change.

The pungent smell of blood mixed with the aroma of ale filled the air.

Nix remained expressionless, kicked away the head that was rolling on the ground, and looked at Lind.

At this moment, Li Luns rushed in with several elite soldiers, also dressed in civilian clothes and already mixed in with the crowd, quickly took control of the scene, and dispersed irrelevant people.

Linde stood still. He had already used the effect of the Deconstruction Aura to obtain the memory fragments from these assassins, so there was no need to leave them alive.

Thinking of this, he turned and stabbed, ending the life of the unconscious bartender.

"Linde! Are you alright?"

Lillens quickly stepped forward and, seeing that Lind was alright, was relieved.

"It's alright, please take care of the rest."

Linde waved his hand, his voice low.

"The intelligence has been obtained. Go and tell those nobles to mind their own business, lest they have their throats slit by the Sassians."

"Okay! I'll go right away."

Lind's gaze fell on the head that Nix was stepping on, and he beckoned to Nix, saying:

"Don't step on those dirty things next time, or you'll get them dirty."

Nix pursed her lips and said:

"Okay~ I'll listen to my master, meow."

Nix obediently slipped into Lind's shadow and left the tavern with him.

Linde walked silently down the road, not uttering a word. Nix couldn't help but ask:

"Master, Master, where are we going now?"

The silent Lind was awakened by Nix. After leaving the tavern, he had been constantly processing the fragments of memories he had obtained from the assassins.

Now, we have obtained quite a bit of information.

Right now, he needs to get to the bedbugs' lair as quickly as possible before the news spreads.

So he said:

"Let's go check out the nests of these bedbugs and see if we can wipe them out all at once."
