Chapter 52 Fever

Chapter 52 Fever

Xu Zhixia glanced at the gloomy sky outside and subconsciously thought of Zhou An.

A wave of worry welled up in my heart and I couldn't say anything for a long time.

Qiangzi noticed this and said caringly, "Don't worry, sister-in-law, Captain Zhou will be fine."

The island is not small, and there are many soldiers on it.

Judging from Qiangzi's tone, he seemed to be very familiar with Zhou An.

Perhaps seeing the doubt in her eyes, Qiangzi explained, "I work under Captain Zhou."

Zhou An did not bring his men with him on this mission.

After the storm came, Qiangzi and Gangzi were assigned to be in charge of the work in this area.

But there's no need to tell my sister-in-law about this.

Xu Zhixia nodded, indicating that she understood.

The feeling of the wet clothes sticking to her body was very uncomfortable. When the rain stopped a little, she ran back in the rain.

I finally breathed a sigh of relief when I got home.

When Haohao saw her, he hurried to her side and looked at her with concern.

She rubbed Haohao's head and forced a smile on her pale little face.

It was already late, and Xu Zhixia was tired and sleepy.

She boiled some hot water, wiped her body briefly, and then took Haohao to bed.

But she soon regretted not handling it properly.

A chill came over him, making Xu Zhixia feel as if she were in an ice cave.

She curled herself up into a ball, trying to keep herself warm.

An unnatural flush appeared on her face and her mind began to fog.

"Haohao, I seem to be sick..." She said in a hoarse voice weakly.

Just when she was about to ask Haohao to get medicine from the medicine box, she suddenly remembered that she had taken the medicine box away just now and did not bring it back.

The fever caused her thinking to be interrupted for a moment, and when she came to her senses, she smiled bitterly.

He lowered his voice and said, "Haohao, I'm sick. Can you stay in Uncle Zhou's room? I don't want to infect you."

Haohao is an obedient child most of the time, but now he is unusually stubborn.

He stood at the head of the bed, saying nothing, and used his actions to show that he wanted to stay with Xu Zhixia.

Xu Zhixia felt touched, but reason prevailed.

She said forcefully: "Haohao, I'm sick."

"You stay with me. What if you get a fever too?"

"I'm in no condition to take care of you now."

After pursing his lips, he finally gave in and responded in a dull voice: "I understand."

After a pause, he added firmly: "Xia Xia, I will take care of you."

Xu Zhixia didn't take this matter to heart. When she saw Haohao leave the room, she breathed a sigh of relief and fell asleep.

In a daze, she felt a cool sensation on her forehead, which made her hot body feel much better.

I don’t know if it’s an illusion, but I can occasionally hear the sound of faint footsteps.

It was as if...someone was running around for her.

She opened her eyes with difficulty and saw a short figure busy beside her out of the corner of her eye.

Xu Zhixia felt a little sore in the corners of her eyes. She wanted Haohao to leave, but she didn't say that in the end.

Forget it, Haohao is so stubborn that he won’t listen to her anyway.

It's just a rain, it should be fine soon, right?

Xu Zhixia's thoughts were simple, but the disease came on with great force.

By the late night, she had lost consciousness.

Haohao noticed her abnormality and became restless.

He carefully placed his small hand on her forehead, but withdrew it because of the burning temperature.

A look of worry appeared on his face, and he called out softly, "Xia Xia, Xia Xia?"

But Xu Zhixia seemed not to hear it and lay quietly on the bed, as if she would never wake up again.

Haohao panicked and looked at the rain outside, with a hint of determination in his eyes.

He dragged his small body and ran outside.

Xu Zhixia's home is located in a relatively remote area, and it is usually a good place with no noise or disturbance.

But at this time, it is actually a bad thing.

Wu Xiuxiu's family next door moved away a while ago.

Haohao felt even more uncomfortable as did the other neighbors nearby.

He mustered up the courage to knock on the door and ask for help.

But his voice was too small under the influence of the storm.

Seeing that several companies did not respond, he became extremely anxious.

Tears flowed down with the rain. He wiped them away and ran to Aunt Cai's house.

The road was slippery and he didn't know how many times he fell, but he had no time to care.

Enduring the pain, I finally reached my destination.

Aunt Cai and Political Commissar Zhou are older and feel lighter.

The two had just laid down when they heard what seemed to be a knock on the door outside.

Aunt Cai was the first to react and nudged Political Commissar Zhou next to her: "Old Zhou, did you hear any noise outside?"

"There's no sound at all. You must be confused at this time of night."

"Go to sleep quickly. There have been a lot of storms lately, and you have to get up early tomorrow."

Political Commissar Zhou spoke vaguely without opening his eyes.

Aunt Cai frowned, thought for a while, and then stood up, put on a coat, and walked out of the yard in the rain.

After opening the door, she looked down and saw Haohao standing in front of her.

She was startled and asked quickly, "Haohao, why did you come here by yourself?"

"Where's Xiao Xia?"

Haohao raised his voice and tried to explain: "Xia Xia, my head is very hot. She said it's contagious."

Aunt Cai immediately understood that it was probably a cold and fever.

At this time, even a minor illness can have serious consequences.

Without time to think about anything else, she hurried back to the house, took the common medicines at home, and took Haohao to Xu Zhixia's house.

When the two of them returned, the wind and rain not only showed no signs of stopping, but became even stronger.

When they arrived at the bedroom, Aunt Cai put her hand on Xu Zhixia's forehead.

Feeling the scorching temperature, her heart skipped a beat.

He first went to the kitchen to boil a pot of hot water, and then fed Xu Zhixia the medicine.

Then he sat beside the bed and took good care of her.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for the temperature on Xu Zhixia’s forehead to subside slightly.

Aunt Cai and Haohao breathed a sigh of relief at the same time and fell asleep on the edge of the bed.

When Xu Zhixia woke up, she saw this scene.

Aunt Cai was awakened by the sound of him sitting up.

"Aunt Cai, why are you here?"

Xu Zhixia's hoarse voice sounded, and she had no recollection of what happened last night.

Aunt Cai looked worried. She touched her forehead first and only breathed a sigh of relief after making sure the temperature had dropped.

"Did you go out last night? How come you have a fever so late at night?"

“If Haohao hadn’t come looking for me, you might have just gone there.”

A trace of surprise flashed across Xu Zhixia's eyes. She only remembered that she fainted yesterday, but she didn't expect it to be so serious.

Her gaze fell on Haohao beside her, and a hint of warmth flashed in her eyes.
