Chapter 149: Senior's Wedding
Chapter 149: Senior's Wedding
"Jin Ye? What are you looking at?"
The senior student waved her palm in front of Wen Jinye's eyes a few times.
Wen Jin's gaze gradually focused, and the awkwardness she felt when she saw Fu Yanjing finally dissipated somewhat.
She shook her head and mumbled an explanation: "It's nothing. I thought I had run into someone I knew and had mistaken them for someone else."
But the fingertips hidden in the long sleeves were curled up uneasily.
The port city is so big, and their lives are so different, how could they possibly meet again?
How could I have encountered this on my very first day in Hong Kong?
Fortunately, Fu Yanjing didn't see her. With a beautiful woman by his side, he had probably already forgotten his loss of control in Jiangbei.
Thinking of this, Wen Jin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She secretly mocked herself for being overly nervous; what was there to be afraid of about meeting Fu Yanjing again?
Their past relationship is now completely behind them.
*
Ji Shuxin's wedding was held at the Carlton Hotel, which is located behind Victoria Harbour.
The enormous floor-to-ceiling windows and the towering location offer panoramic views of Victoria Harbour.
When the stylist came over to adjust Ji Shuxin's wedding dress, Ji Shuxin's husband also walked in.
He looked Wen Jinye up and down, his Mandarin not quite standard, "You're A-Xin's junior from Jiangbei?"
Wen Jin nodded as well.
His light laugh carried an undisguised arrogance: "Land in Hong Kong is incredibly valuable. Not everyone is as lucky as Ah Xin to meet me and stay in Hong Kong in such a glamorous way."
"You're quite attractive. I have a friend who's single; I can introduce you to him."
Ji Shuxin glared at him. "Chen Zhaoxu, don't talk nonsense."
Chen Zhaoxu was completely unaware that he had said something wrong. He shrugged indifferently and mumbled something in Cantonese.
"So what? It's an opportunity that so many people dream of."
He looked down at Wen Jinye and said, "Do you want to be able to stand up here and see the view of Victoria Harbour like your senior in the future?"
The surface of Victoria Harbour outside the window shimmered, and the passing cruise ships became blurry silhouettes due to the great distance.
The towering buildings on both sides of the harbor easily evoke images of Victoria Harbour at night, when the lights come on and create a dazzling spectacle.
Wen Jin didn't say anything either.
In fact, she had already experienced a higher and broader perspective.
But it was just a case of stumbling upon a bustling city; there's nothing to linger over.
Ji Shuxin slammed the earrings she had taken off onto the table. "I'm not interested in these things today either. Don't let your low-class friends try to take advantage of her."
On their wedding day, Wen Jin didn't want to create tension because of her presence.
She walked over and patted Ji Shuxin's hand reassuringly, then spoke gently to Chen Zhaoxu:
“I appreciate my brother-in-law’s kindness, but I have no intention of staying in Hong Kong. I came back this time just to send my blessings to my senior classmate.”
Chen Zhaoxu felt awkward and his expression turned sour.
"You only think about achieving upward mobility for yourself, without thinking about helping your sisters. That's how your relationship is."
After saying that, he slammed the door and left.
Since Wen Jin met Ji Shuxin, all the boyfriends she's dated have been carefree, idle playboys.
She comes from a good family, but not to an unattainable level.
She has always been very clear about what opportunities she, as an ordinary person, can seize.
Wen Jin also finds it difficult to offer her blessings to such a groom.
But I also understand Ji Shuxin very well.
Ji Shuxin's ear piercings weren't done properly at the time, making it difficult to insert many hooked earrings.
The stylist was afraid of hurting Ji Shuxin, so he tried several times but failed.
Wen Jin took it from him, saying, "I'll do it."
The bride in the mirror had exquisite makeup and bright features. Her wedding dress and accessories were all very valuable.
But there was not a trace of a smile in Ji Shuxin's eyes.
She had no desire for married life.
Wen Jin finally couldn't hold back any longer, "Are you sure it's him?"
“He’s pretty good, compared to the previous ones.” Ji Shuxin forced a smile. She wasn’t exactly heartbroken or dejected, just very calm. “At least he doesn’t have any violent tendencies right now. Although he’s proud, he’s really willing to give to me.”
"Now, I really want to climb up the social ladder. I'm beautiful and smart, so marriage is the best stepping stone for me to cross social classes. Talking about love is so vulgar. I know you're worried about me, but don't worry, I'm very sure about Chen Zhaoxu. He is the best stepping stone for me."
Wen Jin also admired her decisive and clear-headedness.
The earrings were on, glittering under the fill light. "Very beautiful."
Ji Shuxin looked around, her eyes revealing no joy of marriage, only ambition for the future.
She turned her head and leaned against Wen Jinye's waist. "Don't talk about me. It's been so long. Have you met the right person yet?"
They were each other's only true friends in Hong Kong. Wen Jin's strange behavior also allowed Ji Shuxin to deduce that she had once had a relationship in Hong Kong.
But the other party's identity is probably not ordinary.
Wen Jin also stammered when she spoke, and the sadness in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Ji Shuxin wisely refrained from asking any further questions.
In the end, Wen Jin's taste in men is better than hers.
She later hurriedly returned to Jiangbei, which may have been the end of that relationship.
"I've heard them say that men in the North are all over 1.8 meters tall and handsome with strong features. My biggest regret in life is that I've never kissed a handsome man from the North. I'm afraid only you can help me fulfill this wish."
Wen Jin chuckled, "When it comes to relationships, let nature take its course."
She is waiting for things to take a turn for the better.
The next spring.
Just as he finished speaking, Wen Jin's phone rang.
Ji Shuxin, with her sharp eyes, exclaimed, "Meng Qinghe?"
She yelled a few times, "Who is it? Who is it?"
Wen Jin didn't think much of it, "My psychologist."
Unexpectedly, this objective fact caused a different kind of misunderstanding in Ji Shuxin's mind.
A psychologist? Why don't you just say he's your medicine?
I've never seen Wen Jin use such a mushy nickname for anyone.
On the other end of the phone, Meng Qinghe heard from Xiao Yin that Wen Jin had also come to Gangcheng.
His psychological counseling session just ended.
"This is my first time in the port city. Would you like to use your university education here to show me around?"
"Of course," Wen Jin hesitated for a moment, "but my senior is getting married today. Should I come to see you after her wedding?"
"I'll come find you. Send me your location."
Ji Shuxin was listening intently to Wen Jinye's phone, and she couldn't help but interject, "Why wait until the wedding is over? Come back now, we're here in Victoria Harbour."
She spoke eloquently: "You're here today too, so don't feel embarrassed. Anyway, we're all from the mainland, we're all one family on the mainland, come and give me your blessings."
This is also good, and it will prevent Chen Zhaoxu and his gang of scoundrels from having any ulterior motives towards Wen Jin and harassing her.
Meng Qinghe, an INFJ, clearly didn't expect that Wen Jinye's friends were all so unconventional.
He paused for two seconds before reacting, his gentle voice sounding somewhat embarrassed, "It's a bit far, so I might be a little late. I won't bother you any longer. Let me take this opportunity to wish you a happy marriage."
"I've reserved a spot for you, so please come if you can."
