Chapter 201: The Warmth of the Palm
Chapter 201: The Warmth of the Palm
The man was dressed in a black suit and overcoat, which accentuated his tall and slender figure.
Because of the rain, his shoulders were damp with rain stains, but his hair was neat and he didn't look disheveled at all.
His hand, hanging at his side, casually held a long-handled black umbrella that had just been folded.
Water droplets dripped from the tip of the umbrella, forming a small puddle where the man paused.
Wen Jinye also stopped walking.
The inner struggle, panic, hesitation, and the patience to tolerate the driver's greedy face.
At this moment, it seemed that everything had an answer.
A sense of peace that defies explanation.
Before she could speak, Fu Yanjing stepped forward first.
The distance between them was only two steps.
Wen Jin stood on top, while Fu Yanjing stood below.
Despite their misaligned standing postures, their lines of sight are level.
Under the dim light of the corridor's motion-sensor lights, Fu Yanjing could clearly see the faint color on Wen Jinye's lips.
His voice was strained: "What's wrong?"
"puppy……"
Wen Jinye's feelings of helplessness, anxiety, and worry seemed to have found a support and reliance.
Her voice trembled slightly, with a barely perceptible sob.
"Chirp is sick."
Fu Yanjing's calm gaze fell on her bare feet, which were clad in summer slippers.
Because of the cold and tension, her round toes curled up.
The force holding the flight case in my hand suddenly vanished.
Fu Yanjing's warm hand briefly touched Wen Jinye's icy fingertips.
"I'll take you there."
His deep voice was like the most effective soothing voice, gradually calming Wen Jin's anxious heart.
The alley here is indeed not very wide; there's no fire lane, and parking spaces are narrow.
Fu Yanjing's car was parked at the very front of the alley.
On a rainy autumn night, a chill seeps into the air.
Fu Yanjing carefully placed the airline case at Wen Jinye's feet; the zipper of her down jacket, which she had put on in a hurry, was not zipped up.
Fu Yanjing quickly but gently fastened the outer buttons.
He casually pulled the oversized hoodie over Wen Jinye's head.
Her face looked even smaller in comparison.
In the dim light, only those slightly reddened eyes, with their damp eyelashes fluttering, looked at him.
She treats Qiuqiu like a child and as a member of the family.
When Qiuqiu fell ill in the middle of the night, it was enough to make Wen Jin panic.
Just like back in Hong Kong, when she mistakenly thought he was the one who died in the car accident reported in the news.
I've completely lost my reason.
Without time to verify, he stumbled and ran outside, penniless.
She has the most delicate and tender heart, and she will pour all her love and effort into the people and things she cares about.
"The car is a bit far, wait for me here, I'll be right there."
Fu Yanjing opened the umbrella.
The usually calm and composed person was now walking hurriedly because of Wen Jinye's worries.
The car sped through the empty night.
Ten minutes later, at a pet hospital, the doctor hurriedly performed various examinations on Qiuqiu.
Wen Jin also sat on the cold bench, anxiously waiting for the result.
The nurse on duty poured Wen Jin a cup of hot water in a disposable paper cup.
Noticing Wen Jinye's pale face, she patiently comforted her:
"It's alright. The puppy hadn't shown any abnormalities before. With the change of seasons and the arrival of autumn, the weather in Jiangbei has been quite strange lately, with a sudden drop in temperature. The puppy's stomach is already fragile, so it should be fine."
Wen Jin's eyes were blank; she dared not think of anything.
She has never been a lucky person.
The more you expect something good to happen, the more likely it is to fall through.
Things didn't go as planned far too many times.
So most of the time, she was prepared for the worst possible outcome.
She dared not think about Qiuqiu's condition too seriously, nor did she dare to hope for the best.
Wen Jin could only try to clear her mind.
The water cup held in both hands was steaming.
After putting Wen Jinye and Qiuqiu down, Fu Yanjing hurriedly left the pet hospital.
Wen Jin didn't think about it in detail.
"Ding-dong—"
The doorbell rang at the pet hospital.
The damp drizzle and the cool night breeze briefly swept in as the glass door was pushed open.
The nurse wanted to say something to Wen Jinye, but when she turned her head and glanced over, she was immediately struck by the man's appearance and demeanor.
"Oh! Your boyfriend is back. I thought he had just abandoned you and your child."
After saying that, she realized she shouldn't be a third wheel and went back to sit down at the consultation table.
Wen Jin also looked up, the steam rising from the water glass blurring her vision and making Fu Yanjing's noble figure appear somewhat hazy.
He was carrying a paper bag from the convenience store.
Before Wen Jin could react,
The man knelt down, half-squatting in front of Wen Jinye.
His body was damp, but his palms remained warm and dry.
When I held Wen Jinye's ankle, which was so small I could barely grasp it, the heat was astonishing.
Wen Jin also flinched.
Her feet were cold.
Fu Yanjing's movements were gentle, but the force in her hands was just right.
It won't hurt her, and it won't let her escape.
Until thick cotton socks covered her feet, and then she slipped into her newly bought soft cotton slippers.
The chill that crept up from the soles of my feet seemed to be instantly dispelled.
"Next time you're in a rush to leave, remember to wear socks."
Fu Yanjing didn't look up. From his elevated position, his prominent brow bone, high nose bridge, and sharp, clear features were striking.
But her eyes, beneath her long lashes, were as tender as spring water.
A calm word of advice, yet it was like a pebble dropped into a mirror-like lake, instantly creating ripples.
"Fu Yanjing, thank you for tonight."
Wen Jin's voice was very low, showing embarrassment at having troubled him, but more than that—
It is a complex emotion that is difficult to define.
Gentle yet struggling.
Why are you in the hallway so late?
Fu Yanjing then pulled her pajama bottoms, which had been rubbing against her, down to her ankles.
He then casually sat down on the stool next to Wen Jinye.
In a nonchalant tone, he said, "If I do some quick calculations, I'll be able to appear tonight and save the day."
Behind this seemingly calm exterior lies a nearly five-hour-long, highly tense international meeting involving the replacement of industries and the adjustment of the economic landscape.
But looking at Wen Jin's eyes, which were wet with tears of nervousness, Fu Yanjing felt no fatigue from working non-stop for more than ten hours straight.
He could only be thankful that he had appeared at Wen Jinye's helpless and bewildered moment.
She wasn't left alone, feeling uneasy in the quiet, damp rainy night.
He sat in a casual and languid posture, his entire back pressed against the cool chair back, his face slightly raised.
He squinted when he saw the light on the ceiling.
It took a break from the intense stress, plus the constant travel with Wen Jin.
That faint sense of weariness did not escape Wen Jinye's eyes.
Without a second thought, Wen Jin's cold fingertips landed on Fu Yanjing's furrowed brow.
Gently, turn it around once.
She said nothing, but her actions spoke volumes.
Fu Yanjing's sleepy eyes suddenly opened.
The moment the coolness of his fingertips mingled with the warmth of his brow, Wen Jin also seemed to awaken from a dream.
After spending three years in the port city, I realized that some of my subconscious behaviors were simply controlled by my nerves.
She hurriedly avoided Fu Yanjing's gaze and pulled her hand away.
Trying to pretend that this transgression on a rainy night never happened.
But why would Fu Yanjing let her hide?
He raised his hand and precisely grasped Wen Jinye's wrist.
He pulled the person closer to him.
His voice was deep and seductive: "Wen Jinye, you care about me?"
