Chapter 29: Someone Else Should Be Thanked
Chapter Twenty-Nine: Someone Else Should Be Thanked
Wen Jin also sensed the insult and contempt in his cold and cryptic gaze.
Her face paled. "Fu Yanjing, what do you mean?"
Fu Yanjing slowly unbuckled his seatbelt. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
He toyed with the cufflink he had snatched from Wen Jinye's hand, "Going to great lengths, resorting to the same old tricks."
"Name your price for that kiss just now."
"Smack—"
The crisp sound of a slap echoed clearly inside the carriage.
Wen Jin's palms were numb, and her eyes were sore and painful.
Her vision was blurry, and she couldn't make out Fu Yanjing's face no matter what she did.
Only his voice trembled uncontrollably, "Fu Yanjing, we're even."
The car door slammed shut with a deafening bang.
Fu Yanjing gently pressed the tip of his tongue against the inside of his mouth on the side of his face that had been hit.
He gave a cold laugh.
A kiss followed by a slap.
What kind of pricing method is she using?
He previously thought that Wen Jin's admiration and affection were fake, but he never expected that even his gentleness was an act.
He had raised Fu Yanjing to adulthood, and this was the first time in his life he had ever been slapped.
The car window rolled down, and Fu Yanjing tossed the cufflink out without even looking at it.
He meticulously wiped each finger with a wet tissue, his vision obscured in the darkness.

The next morning.
Having secured an interview with Song Chunju, Wen Jin also rushed to the hospital to share the good news with Tang Man.
Tang Man's health indicators aren't good right now, so she shouldn't have to worry about work. But Wen Jin knows her too well; the less she tells her, the more she overthinks things.
The twists and turns in the middle were not mentioned; it was only said that the evil cultivation method Tang Man taught her was good.
Tang Man slapped her thigh excitedly, "Otherwise, how do you think I became the top woman in the office and could fight Wang Pangzi for three hundred rounds?"
Wen Jin was also quite startled, "Take it easy, don't break it."
She's too thin now.
Tang Man grinned.
A smile would bring out her chapped lips.
She hissed, and sure enough, blood seeped out. "I'm impressed, even the dead skin on your lips could be used to feed chickens."
Wen Jin quickly went to get Tang Man a cup of hot water so she could moisten her lips.
That's when the ward door was pushed open.
A group of nurses in white coats escorted the doctor in the middle as he walked in.
The man walked straight to Tang Man's bedside, exuding elegance. "Hello, I am your new attending physician, Zhou Jichen."
Tang Man was stunned, and it took her a while to react. "Hey, aren't you that PhD in oncology who returned from overseas?"
For some time now, her husband had been secretly trying to contact this person, but unfortunately, he was too mysterious and he couldn't meet him even after using all his connections.
Tang Man had already given up hope. Changing doctors might not necessarily help her, and new treatments might not be suitable for her, but would only cost more money.
She might as well leave gracefully, which would leave some security for her child.
I never expected that someone who was so far away would suddenly be right in front of me.
Zhou Jichen reacted indifferently to Tang Man's statement. He adjusted his glasses, asked some questions as usual, and finally said, "Have the family come to my office to talk in detail later."
After leaving in a large group with several nurses, Tang Manren hadn't quite reacted yet.
She grabbed Wen Jinye's arm and said incredulously, "Am I dreaming? It seems like I don't have to die for the time being?"
Wen Jin looked down at her fingernails that were almost digging into her flesh, gritting her back teeth, "I'm about to be strangled to death by you, I'm sure this isn't a dream."
Tang Man suddenly realized what was happening. "Oh, sorry, I got a little excited."
Wen Jin showed no sympathy whatsoever, insisting that "my injury must be treated as a work-related injury."
Tang Man's face showed obvious relief. "Could it be that God thinks I'm not destined to die? I've searched high and low without finding it, and now it's right here without any effort."
Wen Jin handed the warm water to Tang Man with a normal expression, saying, "Don't bother trying anymore. You've already worn yourself out trying to persuade her."
"Have a sip of water to moisten your skin."
After chatting with Tang Man for a while, she became sleepy and her eyelids drooped as she fell asleep.
Wen Jin carefully walked out of the ward and closed the door.
The long message she sent to Zhou Jichen a few days ago is still lying there quietly.
Regardless of why Zhou Jichen changed his original onboarding plan and took over Tang Man's patient care, Wen Jin naturally had to thank him properly since she had asked him for help at the time.
Thinking this, Wen Jin knocked on Zhou Jichen's office door.
"Enter."
Wen Jin also went in, "Dr. Zhou."
Zhou Jichen saw that she showed no surprise. "Miss Wen, did you come to talk to me about Tang Man's condition? It would be better if her husband did this."
Wen Jin also said sincerely, "I've come to thank you."
“Then Miss Wen is probably thanking the wrong person.” Zhou Jichen closed the medical record in his hand and said calmly, “I am here now not because of Miss Wen’s touching words, but because someone flattered me.”
He gave a cold laugh. "Saving lives and healing the wounded."
"So you should thank someone else."
Wen Jin's eyelashes trembled.
Zhou Jichen's words were too subtle, and Wen Jin wasn't stupid; she could understand the implication.
Zhou Jichen knew more than Xu Xiangbai.
Her throat felt bitter, and she didn't understand why Fu Yanjing would help her.
A slap followed by a sweet treat—this is merely a well-intentioned gesture on a whim.
Wen Jin also thought of his inexplicable kiss and sarcasm last night, and felt her mind was in turmoil.
It's so annoying. Her heart is clearly hers, but she always fails because of Fu Yanjing.
Let's just give her a car accident so she loses her memory.
"Bang—"
The moment this crazy idea popped into his head, Wen Jin bumped right into the person opposite him.
Wen Jin also staggered, and the bag she was carrying was knocked to the ground.
The odds and ends inside were scattered all over the floor.
Her first reaction was to squat down and pick it up, but a red high heel ran over Wen Jinye's bag strap.
"It's one thing for reporter Wen to be tactless, but he also has poor eyesight."
He Jiayu, wearing sunglasses and carrying a Dior lambskin bag, looked down at her with an air of luxury.
There was not a trace of apology on her cold and aloof face.
Wen Jin was also certain that He Jiayu had bumped into her while looking down at her phone.
She didn't want to cause trouble at the hospital, especially since He Jiayu was someone Fu Yanjing protected—a high-and-mighty young lady and a popular star.
Wen Jin didn't want to cause trouble for herself or those around her.
She said softly, "Excuse me, could you please move aside?"
"What if I don't?" He Jiayu said, relying on the fact that she was well covered up and no one recognized her. "You think you can just let it go after you hit me?"
If she doesn't want to let it go, then she'll return it.
Wen Jin also got up, brushing past He Jiayu with half of her shoulder.
He Jiayu's lambskin bag fell to the ground, and its contents rolled all over the floor.
Wen Jin remained calm, as if she was only trying to prove something to He Jiayu.
"This is the you I bumped into."
"you--"
He Jiayu dared not make a big fuss, fearing that her public image would collapse if she made headlines.
He had no choice but to squat down angrily and pick up the things with Wen Jin.
Lipstick, lip gloss, perfume...
Amidst the scattered debris, He Jiayu was dazzled by a small diamond hair clip.
Her expression changed, and just as she was about to take it, Wen Jin also put the clip back into her bag.
He Jiayu bit down hard on her lips beneath the mask.
She was very familiar with that hair clip. During those years abroad, every photo of Fu Yanjing attending an event was deeply imprinted in He Jiayu's mind.
The exact same clip had appeared repeatedly on Fu Yanjing's tie.
Equally ordinary, equally inexpensive.
Yet, she managed to win Fu Yanjing's favor for many years.
He Jiayu stared intently at Wen Jinye as he stepped into the elevator.
It seems like everything makes sense now...
