Chapter 11 Did I give you face?
Chapter 11
"No, it was just a regular get-together."
Jiang Zhiyan's voice was cold, and her brows furrowed in displeasure. "What do you mean by 'looking at wedding venues'? Liu Lu and I are just colleagues. What nonsense are you spouting?"
Liu Miaoqi's polite smile remained unchanged, but her mood was slightly heavy. She hadn't expected Jiang Zhiyan to take the initiative to dispel this rumor.
The news of the marriage alliance would be entirely beneficial to their cooperation, even if it were clarified after the project was completed. Why can't Jiang Zhiyan distinguish between what is more important?
She did have some affection for Jiang Zhiyan, but that was only based on his outstanding work ability and good looks.
For her, who she marries is not important; the purpose of the marriage is simply to better protect her family's wealth and power. Her marriage may be without love, but it must have value.
It would be even better if we could find someone who is pleasing to the eye.
Jiang Zhiyan is clearly the best choice.
Unfortunately, the olive branch that was offered was broken at the roots.
Liu Miaoqi smiled and politely exchanged a few pleasantries with Xia Zhiyu.
Before leaving, Jiang Zhiyan's gaze swept over Bian Lin, who was standing next to Xia Zhiyu, and paused for a moment when he saw Bian Lin's face clearly.
But it only lasted for a moment.
Jiang Zhiyan looked away, his gaze gently falling on the red mole on Xia Zhiyu's snow-white neck.
Faint red marks are visible around the area; they are very light and difficult to see without close inspection.
He was always calm and would never leave a mark on Xia Zhiyu's exposed skin. He didn't want others to look at Xia Zhiyu with strange eyes, nor did he care for such a way of asserting his presence.
But now, Jiang Zhiyan suddenly regretted not leaving a kiss mark next to that red mole last night.
It was just past five o'clock. The bright sunlight shone on the lush grass. The central air conditioning was humming, and the cool air gently lifted Xia Zhiyu's long, brownish hair under the sunlight.
Jiang Zhiyan looked calmly at Xia Zhiyu, their gazes intertwining restrainedly in the air, then briefly meeting again.
Xia Zhiyu lowered her eyes, almost self-destructively twisting a laughable sense of pleasure into her pain.
So he can explain things after all.
When she no longer needs it.
This little incident was quickly forgotten by everyone. The hotel even provided a free sound system for their class reunion. After a few sentimental songs, it was almost nine o'clock, and Song Ran suggested that everyone go to a bar or KTV to continue the party.
Fang Xinle loves to have fun and never refuses such occasions, as does Gao Qiongwen.
"Let's go together, Yu Yu. It's not easy for classmates to get together. It would be no fun if we didn't have a good time," Gao Qiongwen urged Xia Zhiyu.
"I'm not going."
Xia Zhiyu refused just as readily.
When she first started college, she went to a bar with her roommates. A constant stream of people came to toast and chat with her, and some even took turns pouring drinks for them because they were just a few young girls.
Fortunately, Fang Xinle was experienced in this kind of thing, so she went directly to the bar manager. The manager was also afraid that something might happen, so he specially arranged for someone to send the girls back to school safely.
From then on, Xia Zhiyu avoided bars and other places of trouble.
Fang Xinle: "Then wait for me to call a designated driver to take you back first."
"No need to see me off, Lele. I can just take a taxi home. It's not far."
Xia Zhiyu wasn't a big drinker; the two glasses of champagne she'd just had had her face flushed, and her tone unconsciously carried a softness characteristic of southerners, gently soothing the heart.
"If you send me back to the city, forget about drinking, Song Ran and the others won't even leave you with a sip of their saliva."
Seeing her like this, Fang Xinle became even more worried. She had also drunk quite a bit, so she put her arm around Xia Zhiyu and insisted on taking her home.
Just like back in college, the two of them were playfully swaying and joking around, not even noticing the steps in the underground parking garage.
Xia Zhiyu, who was walking in front, stumbled and fell straight to the ground. The alcohol had startled her awake, but her arms were weak and she couldn't straighten up.
Bian Lin strode forward and put his arm around Xia Zhiyu's shoulder from behind.
"Slow down, there are steps here."
His tone was gentle, and he quickly let go of Xia Zhiyu's hand after she regained her balance, showing great tact and politeness.
Xia Zhiyu suddenly understood why rich women liked college student brothers.
Young, meticulous, enthusiastic, and his affection for you is evident in his words.
Although it was somewhat inappropriate, Xia Zhiyu couldn't help but wonder if Jiang Zhiyan, at Bian Lin's age, would also have proclaimed his love to the world.
What secrets are hidden in Jiang Zhiyan's past that she can't know?
Is it his overwhelming love for someone else?
Do rich young masters and their "white moonlight" (ideal love) always go like that? That's how it's always portrayed in TV dramas.
Bian Lin was tall and imposing; from behind, it looked as if Xia Zhiyu had simply fallen into his arms.
"Then I'll take Sister Xiaoyu home. I'm driving now."
Xia Zhiyu quickly waved her hand, "No need, no need, it's easy for me to take a taxi, don't bother."
He then took out his phone to call a car.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Bian Lin said, pressing down on Xia Zhiyu’s wrist. His amber eyes seemed to be filled with sweet honey. “If it’s Sister Xiaoyu, it’s no trouble at all.”
Sister Little Fish...
Alcohol magnifies every detail. Xia Zhiyu suddenly realized that Bian Lin called Fang Xinle "Sister Fang".
It's a deliberate act of discrimination.
This little thought is especially endearing.
She used to call others "senior," but when it came to Jiang Zhiyan, she called him by his full name.
An involuntary, tingling, numb, and itchy sensation rose in my heart.
"I won't trouble you to deliver my girlfriend."
The temperature in the underground parking garage was low, and a cold breeze was blowing.
Xia Zhiyu almost thought she was hallucinating.
She turned around in the direction of the sound, and Jiang Zhiyan draped his suit jacket over Xia Zhiyu's shoulders. The scent of tobacco mixed with leather and woody notes filled Xia Zhiyu's nose warmly.
The familiar taste instantly relaxed her, and the alcohol surged wildly through her body.
The champagne they ordered today was mild on the palate, but had a strong aftereffect. Xia Zhiyu was only three-tenths drunk when she left the venue, but now she was five or six-tenths drunk, feeling as lightheaded as if she were walking on cotton.
This is her favorite perfume that Jiang Zhiyan wears.
Dior's temperature in Fahrenheit.
Because this perfume gives her the illusion that she will feel warm when she is with Jiang Zhiyan.
Would Liu Miaoqi think the same way when she smelled it?
Will she also like the smell of leather?
Xia Zhiyu quickly dismissed this thought; even when drunk, she wouldn't allow herself to wallow in self-reproach and anxiety.
Such attacks are utterly pointless except for tearing one's own heart to shreds.
Bian Lin smiled lightly and took a half step back.
"So you're Sister Xiaoyu's boyfriend. I thought the girl in the white dress next to you was your girlfriend. You and that girl look quite well-matched."
The provocation was blatantly displayed on Bian Lin's face.
Reckless folly.
Jiang Zhiyan sneered, too lazy to pay any attention to Bian Lin.
He found this kind of provocative behavior, which made them think they were something special, utterly stupid.
boring.
He took off the coat that was originally draped over Xia Zhiyu's shoulders, and Jiang Zhiyan picked her up horizontally, pressing the coat down on her skirt and placing it on his knees.
Xia Zhiyu, feeling dizzy and disoriented, grabbed Jiang Zhiyan's shirt by the chest, pressing her steaming cheek against Jiang Zhiyan's full chest muscles.
The sound of a heartbeat pounding in her ears was indistinguishable from her own or Jiang Zhiyan's.
"Beep beep," the car door opened automatically.
Jiang Zhiyan tossed her into the back seat with rather rough movements.
"Jiang Zhiyan!"
The feeling of weightlessness startled Xia Zhiyu, and she sobered up almost instantly.
"Are you crazy? Why are you using so much force?"
Jiang Zhiyan laughed angrily, "Am I sick? I am sick, I've been waiting here for over two hours to see you being all lovey-dovey with someone else."
"Where did your sense of propriety go? Did it all go down the drain with the alcohol?"
A huge pot fell from the sky and landed firmly on Xia Zhiyu's head, making her dizzy with anger.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Bian Lin is Gao Qiongwen's younger brother. He just helped me up!"
Jiang Zhiyan turned her head away, the burning heat spreading across her face.
"And what about you and Liu Miaoqi?"
Xia Zhiyu's voice changed in a suppressed tone, becoming sharp and piercing.
"Jiang Zhiyan, do you really have no idea what those people in the law firm are saying about me?"
"They call me Third Sister and say I'm your mistress. Didn't you know any of these things?!"
The fluorescent lights in the underground parking garage made Xia Zhiyu's face appear as pale as paper. Jiang Zhiyan looked down at her coldly, a dark shadow under his brow bone obscuring his expression.
Xia Zhiyu only heard a cold laugh. Even in this moment of mutual accusation, Jiang Zhiyan could still quickly compose himself and question her arrogantly and calmly, as if he were watching a clown.
"So Xia Zhiyu, you've been angry with me for so long because of these ridiculous rumors, and you even flirted with another man in front of me?"
"Do you think this is funny, Xia Zhiyu? Can't you clarify the rumors yourself? If you really can't explain it, why don't you come and tell me?"
"You don't think that if I keep all this to myself, I'll feel guilty and think I've done a lot of wrong things, do you?"
Xia Zhiyu's face gradually froze, the chill traveling along her blood vessels to her heart.
Jiang Zhiyan continued to arrogantly pontificate about the state of affairs.
"There are clearly a million ways to solve a problem, so why do you always manage to choose the most foolish one? I really don't understand. Xia Zhiyu, how many more times do you have to be dragged into this before you realize that you need to take the initiative to solve problems instead of letting problems solve you?"
A car drove past behind me, its headlights illuminating two lines of barely visible dust in the air.
Upon hearing Jiang Zhiyan's fatherly lecture, Xia Zhiyu felt the effects of the alcohol rush to her head. She abruptly stood up from the back seat, glaring defiantly at Jiang Zhiyan with a burning gaze.
"So, Jiang Zhiyan, are you dealing with something right now?"
"From what standpoint do you approach the problem?"
"Boss? Or my boyfriend?"
She scoffed, her disdain evident, her back ramrod straight, her neck held high.
Are you trying to quickly and decisively resolve my grievances against you using the same problem-solving logic you use in the workplace?
"Jiang Zhiyan, have you gone crazy at work? Right now, in this place, at this time, I'm your girlfriend, not your subordinate. Can't you be a little more normal? Stop lecturing others no matter where you are."
Am I your grandson?
"You've gotten addicted to being a father figure in the law firm, haven't you?"
"Can we still talk? If we can't, we'll break up right now, immediately."
Jiang Zhiyan suddenly smiled. He was good-looking, and his smile made him even more dashing, exuding a charming and romantic air.
"Xia Zhiyu, have I been too lenient with you? Get this straight, we're discussing your drinking and hugging other men. Don't try to change the subject with your crying, tantrums, and threats of suicide."
"Do you think I'm the kind of idiot who freezes up and doesn't know what to do when my girlfriend throws a tantrum?"
