Chapter 52 Your Ex-Boyfriend
Chapter 51
"You have to come to Venice with me too? What kind of boss accompanies employees when they go out?"
Fang Xinle held Xia Xiaojiang in his arms, with Lele lying on his feet, watching Xia Zhiyu pick and choose as she packed her luggage.
Xia Zhiyu glanced at the recent weather in Venice and put two more trench coats into her suitcase. "I didn't go for nothing, you know. Their manager hopes I can participate in this advertising design, and they've also invited two internationally renowned advertising masters this time, whom I haven't had a chance to meet before."
“This brand is a sub-brand of the Jiang family,” Fang Xinle’s voice suddenly rose, “Which Jiang family? Could it be the Jiang of Jiang Zhiyan?”
"It's his Jiang. I'm so grateful to Jiang Zhiyan for letting me make money off my ex-boyfriend twice after we broke up," Xia Zhiyu said sincerely, clasping her hands together. "After I get this advertising fee, I'll go to the temple to pray for him and wish for the Jiang family's business to prosper so I can get more exposure. I recently signed several promising newcomers, and I'm just waiting for this kind of opportunity to shine."
As soon as she finished speaking, Xia Zhiyu immediately realized that she had said a bit too much. She saw that Fang Xinle's smile was getting more and more obvious, and his eyes were also showing a hint of mischief.
Fang Xinle deliberately dragged out the last syllable, "So you've fallen for your ex-boyfriend after seeing him for so long?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Xia Zhiyu rolled her eyes at Fang Xinle, her hands still busy packing her things. "I was only a little awkward and nervous when I first met him, but I quickly relaxed afterwards. If I really had feelings for him, would I have dared to take over the Jiang family's project?"
"Who knows, what if you're incredibly daring?"
Fang Xinle chuckled and came over to tease Xia Zhiyu, “I saw him on the financial news a while ago. I feel that President Jiang seems to fit your criteria for a partner even better than before. Aren’t you interested? When you were in school, didn’t you always dream of dating a smart and aloof man?”
Back when we were freshmen in college, during our dorm time, the four of us girls would order a bunch of braised dishes and beer, and we could chat all night about our relationship experiences.
When Xia Zhiyu said she had never been in a relationship, the other girl was so shocked that she missed out on the last duck neck.
You know, on the first day of college, when we were introducing ourselves, there were three classes sitting in the big classroom. Ninety percent of the boys in the classroom were looking at Xia Zhiyu. The rest of them were either in relationships or gay.
Who would have thought that the school beauty candidate had never been in a relationship?
"I bet it's because you're too pretty that no one dares to confess their feelings to you?"
Fang Xinle, protecting the last bite of the black duck neck, asked.
“Not really,” 19-year-old Xia Zhiyu thought seriously for a while. “Those boys who like me are all too immature. All they do is run around the playground with a basketball all day. They don’t seem very smart.”
"I like someone who is smart and capable, and also older than me."
Perhaps due to having drunk too much, nineteen-year-old Xia Zhiyu's eyes sparkled like glittering stars.
...
The words she had spoken at nineteen echoed in her mind, and Xia Zhiyu's heart tightened. The image of Jiang Zhiyan's cold, scrutinizing gaze at the banquet reappeared before her eyes. Under the lamplight, his profile, with its interplay of light and shadow, revealed a hint of authority in his slight nod.
Xia Zhiyu was stared at intently by Fang Xinle's large, round eyes. The words of resolute denial rolled on her lips, but ultimately she succumbed to Fang Xinle's gaze.
"He was pretty good. If he hadn't been my type, I wouldn't have pursued him for so long. We broke up, but my taste hasn't changed."
When he's in the mood, he can't help but grab her shoulders from behind, like a lion on the savanna biting its prey's neck.
Perhaps it was because her first love involved such lavish meals that, after the breakup, she found even a large feast rather dull. How could someone who had eaten a Manchu Han Imperial Feast be interested in such bland dishes?
After packing her things and seeing Fang Xinle off, night fell. Xia Zhiyu stepped barefoot on the floor, raised her hand and turned off the power. The fog that had been blocking the view through one of the two French windows dissipated, revealing the brightly lit night view outside.
Beicheng is a famous city that never sleeps; even late at night, it is still bustling with activity.
Xia Zhiyu lay lazily on the sofa by the window, the deep red wine reflecting her slightly weary profile.
People are in completely different states at twenty and almost thirty. Now, Xia Zhiyu can understand Jiang Zhiyan's concerns. She was too young back then and very competitive. She always felt like a little canary in Jiang Zhiyan's palm, and she had to do everything according to his wishes first.
Looking back now, those thoughts were indeed somewhat naive and biased. Because of her dissatisfaction with her current situation, coupled with Jiang Zhiyan offending her, she vented all her mixed emotions, including resentment, on Jiang Zhiyan.
But is it that she did something wrong?
Actually, that's not the case. If Xia Zhiyu hadn't insisted on breaking up with him back then with a burst of passion, and then stubbornly ventured into the self-media industry, she wouldn't be where she is now, riding the wave of opportunity and rising to prominence.
Four years ago, Xia Zhiyu was too young and impetuous. She preferred to keep her feelings to herself rather than talk about them. Jiang Zhiyan was also busy and overwhelmed all day long. Every time the two of them communicated, it was like two stubborn rocks colliding, and the sparks they produced burned each other painfully.
Therefore, their separation was inevitable at that time, and Xia Zhiyu must first and foremost take responsibility for her own life.
Of course, there is regret; who wouldn't feel regret after missing out on their ideal type? But Xia Zhiyu doesn't regret her choice at all.
I should have slept with Jiang Zhiyan a few more times back then.
Xia Zhiyu tilted her head back and swallowed the last two mouthfuls of deep red wine, a slight intoxication rising in her heart.
After all, every inch of his skin seemed to be her ideal type, and everyone else she dated afterward paled in comparison.
My phone suddenly rang. At this hour, calls are either urgent or spam.
Xia Zhiyu shook her head, trying her best to clear her mind. The string of numbers displayed on her phone screen looked somewhat familiar. Without thinking too much, Xia Zhiyu cleared her throat and answered the call.
"Hello, I am Xia Zhiyu, the person in charge of Yu Xia. May I ask who you are?"
"Jiang Zhiyan".
The deep, slightly hoarse male voice paused for a moment, then continued, "Your ex-boyfriend."
In just a few words, Xia Zhiyu was instantly sobered up by most of her drunkenness.
