Hardy took his bodyguards and secretary and flew to the U.S. Army Logistics Headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia on his private plane that day.
The plane landed at the military airport, where several military vehicles were already waiting. An officer saluted Hardy when he saw him coming down. "Hello, Mr. Hardy. General Williams sent us to pick you up."
"Thank you," said Hardy.
Everyone got on the bus and soon arrived at the logistics headquarters.
Passed security smoothly.
Hardy walked into Major General Williams' office. When the major general saw Hardy, he stood up with a smile and gave him a hug.
The two sat down and were served two cups of coffee. Major General Williams said, "It's been half a year since we last met, right?"
"Yes, time flies."
Major General Williams looked at Hardy and said with a smile: "You have developed very quickly. Congratulations on establishing the Hardy Group, acquiring a bank, and joining the California Consortium. Many weapons manufacturers in the California Consortium are logistics suppliers for the US military, and I know some of them."
"By the way, your TV station is getting better and better. The "Super Idol" talent show has become the most popular show in the United States. Whenever I have time, I like to watch a segment. Our whole family loves to watch it."
"My niece came to my house a few days ago and said she wanted to participate in the competition, but she was afraid that it would be too embarrassing to be eliminated directly, so she was still hesitating whether to go or not."
"How old is your niece?"
"Nineteen."
"What's your name?"
"Linda, Linda Williams."
"Talent shows are for people who love to sing. I believe your niece will definitely get good results. You should encourage her to participate. There is still a month of audition period, so now is the perfect time for her to go." Hardy said with a smile.
"Then I'll go back and let her know." Williams said with a smile.
Hardy nodded.
Later he will arrange for Edward to let this girl named Linda enter the finals. As long as she is not a pig, I believe Edward will find a way.
"Come on, I'll take you to see the supplies. Dealing with these things has been giving me a headache these days." Major General Williams said as he stood up.
The two men walked out of the building and got into a jeep. The convoy drove all the way to a row of large warehouses and the car stopped in front of one of them.
There was a guard at the door, and he saluted immediately when he saw the general coming.
The warehouse door was opened and the lights were turned on. Countless tall shelves stood in the huge warehouse, and all kinds of things were placed on the shelves.
"This is a sample warehouse. To make it easier to handle, I asked them to bring some of each item and put them here. This is more intuitive."
"There are tens of thousands of categories of these logistical supplies, and the varieties are too numerous to count. The height of the catalog files alone is more than a person tall."
The two walked to a shelf with rows of wooden boxes on it. "These are field ration boxes, and they are divided into types B, C, K, and D."
As he opened one of the boxes first, Hardy saw that it was full of tin cans.
"This is a B ration. The can contains butter, instant coffee, dry food, chocolate, chewing gum, cigarettes, matches, soap, water purification tablets, a can opener, and a towel."
"The other food boxes here have similar contents, but each has a different mix. Some have candies, some have instant orange powder drinks, different brands of cigarettes, and some have dried vegetables, macaroni, egg powder, and other things."
The two walked forward.
He opened a box and found canned luncheon meat inside. "These luncheon meat cans are one of the main rations of the army. Billions of cans of this stuff were consumed during the war. Do you know how much it costs to produce?"
Hardy shook his head.
Major General Williams smiled and said, "It only costs 12 cents per can."
Hadi sighed in his heart that the US Army's logistics were really strong. While other armies were starving and even had to eat grass roots and tree bark, they were living such a prosperous life.
"These should be able to continue to be used by the troops?" Hardy asked.
Rations are consumables, and Hadi wondered why these things were left unprocessed.
Major General Williams curled his lips and said, "Those soldiers don't want to eat these things. If you feed them these things now, they will rebel."
"The troops are now supplied with fresh vegetables and meat, and the food is freshly cooked, but they still complain that it tastes bad."
Williams picked up a can and weighed it in his hand. He smiled and said, "Did you eat a lot of this during the war?"
Hardy nodded.
"How do you feel?"
"I'm about to throw up." said Hardy.
Major General Williams laughed. "Yes, everyone is cursing the boss of the lunch can company. General Eisenhower even said that if he saw the boss of the lunch can company, he would definitely shoot him. Haha."
"I have no less than 10 million boxes of field rations in my hands, and 125 million cans of luncheon meat. Damn, the production capacity of that luncheon meat canning company is so strong that it can produce 15 million cans a week to supply our tens of millions of troops."
"The logistics department was preparing a month's supply of luncheon meat. When the war ended, production was stopped, but there were still hundreds of millions of cans of luncheon meat in stock. Later, the military wanted to digest them and distribute the luncheon meat, but the soldiers were not happy and demanded better food. Many of them secretly threw away the luncheon meat."
"In the end, there was nothing we could do but pile them up. These things have been stored for three years and are about to reach their expiration date. If we don't deal with them, we'll have to throw them away," said Major General Williams helplessly.
"Is it still edible?" Hardy frowned.
"Of course it's edible. In fact, when we first purchased it, we set a shelf life of more than five years. We used a lot of preservatives, and also~"
At this point, Major General Williams lowered his voice slightly and said, "There is no production date or expiration date on these cans, haha."
I threw away the can of luncheon meat and walked forward to open a few more boxes. There were also various canned foods inside, but with different flavors: canned chicken, canned beef, canned pork, canned fish, canned tomato juice, and canned honey.
It's really diverse.
The two continued walking inside.
Major General Williams picked up a medical backpack, which was bulging, and opened it to pour out a bunch of things.
"You should know this is a medic's backpack. It contains sulfa powder, morphine injections, bandages, and a complete set of surgical scissors, hemostatic forceps, and other instruments."
"In addition to individual medical equipment, there are also equipment and medicines for hospital use, medical sterile cotton, syringes, medical infusion hoses, etc. The quantity is even greater. These are no longer used and will expire soon, so they can only be thrown away."
Then he opened a separate box, which contained boxes of condoms. Major General Williams looked at Hardy with a smile, "Have you used these on the battlefield?"
Hadi shook his head quickly, "I've never used this before."
Further in, there are bundles of military envelopes, Christmas cards, candles, flashlights, mosquito nets, underwear, socks, and various military tents of all sizes.
There are also ovens, ice cream machines, and hot coffee machines. Major General Williams said there are tens of thousands of them.
Further in are individual soldier equipment, including various military uniforms, backpacks, military water bottles, belts, helmets, blankets, individual shovels, and daggers.
Then there are all kinds of weapons, all kinds of rifles, pistols, machine guns, mortars.
Major General Williams said: "After the war, more than 10 million soldiers retired, and many of their items were discarded and piled up in warehouses. Whether they were used or new, they could only be placed like this. There was nowhere to go."
The further you go in, the bigger the things become. There are all kinds of motorcycles, jeeps, trucks, ammunition transporters, tracked vehicles, artillery, and even tanks.
"Since the planes and battleships couldn't get in, I didn't let them do it." Major General Williams even made a joke at the end.
Hadi was attracted by the trucks. "General, I want to set up a logistics company and need a large number of trucks. Do you have any suitable ones?"
Major General Williams took Hardy to the trucks and introduced them: "Dodge WC62 truck, load capacity 1.5 tons, GMC military truck, load capacity 2.5 tons, Studebaker US6 truck, load capacity 2.5 tons, White 666 truck, load capacity 6 tons."
"The best-selling items here are cars and trucks, but I still have a batch on hand. How many do you want?" asked Major General Williams.
"What's the price?"
Major General Williams smiled and said, "A Dodge WC 2.5-ton military truck is $300, a Studebaker US6 2.5-ton truck is also $300, and a White 6666-ton truck is $500."
"Ok, give it all to me." said Hardy.
This price is really too cheap. You should know that the factory price of a new car is more than 10 times higher than this price.
Major General Williams looked at Hardy in surprise and said, "I still have more than 30,000 of them here. Do you really want them all?"
Hardy was stunned.
Damn.
From the tone of his voice just now, it seemed that there weren't many. How come there are so many? Thirty thousand vehicles, that would cost 10 million US dollars.
Even if Hardy had money, he wouldn't spend it like this.
But then I thought, if I take them all, I can make money even if I sell them, "Sure, give them all to me."
Major General Williams was immediately delighted when he heard this. "Since you want all of them, I'll save a little money on selling them. So, I'll give you all of these car parts."
After that, he approached Hardy and said in a low voice, "Don't worry, you won't suffer any loss. Each car will be equipped with 5 times the standard accessories, and you will also be given some non-standard parts. Anyway, those parts will only rust if left alone."
The two returned to Major General Williams' office. The general pointed to a pile of documents on the table and said, "These materials are all material catalogs. What we just saw is only part of it."
As he spoke, he pulled out a random stack of papers and placed it on the table and opened it. Hardy saw a photo sandwiched between them. It was of a cargo ship.
"This type of Liberty ship has a load capacity of 7,000 tons. More than 2,700 ships were produced during the war. Now only a few are needed. Most of them are no longer needed and can only be parked in the port."
"There is also the Victory ship, which has a load of 15,000 tons. More than 500 ships were produced, but many of them were not used."
“Now these are ready to be dealt with.”
"There are still many warships. I have contacted many countries to see if they want them. Of course, some countries cannot sell them, and those that can sell them have no money. It is really a headache."
"But if they are not sold, they will just sit there. The maintenance costs are too high, and they will slowly age. The final outcome will be to be dismantled and turned into scrap metal."
"What's even more troublesome is the planes. Do you know how many there are? There are hundreds of thousands of them. Most of them are useless now and can only be parked on the Gobi Desert. Moreover, there are too few parts left on the planes. Even if we dismantle the parts, we can't sell them for much money. It's very troublesome."
"If all these things were left unused, the annual maintenance costs alone would be 50 to 60 million. The federal government bosses don't want to pay for the maintenance, so we have no choice but to sell them off. Do you know what they say? Even if they give them away for free, it's better than wasting money every year."
