Chapter 14
"Isn't this our female lead?"
The person in the lead spoke first, in a relaxed tone, showing no respect for Yu Miaomiao, an unknown amateur actress.
"Oh, this is the cook's cat, we're playing with it."
He was holding three cats in his hand. When he saw the newcomer, he didn't try to hide it. Instead, he pinched the cat's face and forced it to tilt its head back, as if to greet him.
"Look, isn't it funny?"
Another burst of laughter erupted from all around.
But Yu Miaomiao did not laugh.
I asked, "What are you doing?"
She stepped into the shadows, her pale and narrow face exposed to the group.
It wasn't scary, and could even be described as pitiful and cute, but its expressionless face, dark and lifeless pupils, and its staring intently at people inexplicably sent chills down one's spine.
Someone stopped laughing first, and then one by one they stopped, and the surroundings suddenly became quiet.
"What, heroine? You're interfering with us playing with the cat?"
The man in the lead looked rather grim. He gave a cold laugh and asked with a hint of mockery.
"Are you playing with the cat, or are you playing with it?"
Yu Miaomiao approached while asking questions.
"I think we had a lot of fun."
The man chuckled and pointed to three bright red lipstick marks, "Look how happy it is."
Yu Miaomiao felt a glare in her vision, and fragmented images flashed past her eyes. The air seemed to freeze, and she took a deep breath, but she couldn't get any oxygen from the outside world.
But her tone became very calm.
"How about I play with you?"
She had already walked up to the man, so close that she had to look up to see his tall stature.
Even though she was looking up at me, her gaze was as indifferent as if she were looking down at an ant.
The man was enraged by that look. "Don't think you can put on airs just because you're the lead actor. I—"
Before she could finish speaking, Yu Miaomiao kicked him in the knee. A powerful force struck him, and the man cried out in pain as he fell to the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the three dogs broke free and limped to Yu Miaomiao's side, growling at the surroundings and assuming a protective stance.
"Brother Du, what's wrong?"
The other three men were about to approach when they suddenly tripped and fell, unable to get up no matter how hard they struggled.
Yu Miaomiao knelt on Brother Du's chest, gripping his neck tightly. Her slender fingers were incredibly strong, causing the man's cold face to flush red as he made a hoarse sound.
With her other hand, she opened the foundation bottle and poured the entire bottle onto the man's face, carefully applying it to every part, from his eyes to his nose and mouth.
Then came eyeshadow, loose powder, blush... Yu Miaomiao carefully painted the man's face as if it were a palette.
Finally, she chose a bright red lipstick and drew a vibrant, upturned shape on the man's lips.
"I had a lot of fun, how about you?"
The corners of his mouth were slightly raised, but there was no hint of a smile in his eyes.
The man's face contorted in rage, "You bitch—"
Yu Miaomiao stepped on his thigh, and the man let out a miserable howl, with fine beads of sweat appearing on his forehead.
"I'm asking you, is it fun?"
He trembled violently, his lips barely parted to form a smile that looked more like a grimace, and he nodded repeatedly.
"As long as you're having fun, I'm going to find someone else to play with."
Yu Miaomiao mercifully released her hand, gently patted the man's face, and walked towards the next person.
After finishing her "playing" with the four people, Yu Miaomiao's face was extremely pale.
“Meow, meow!”
"Kitten, you are very weak and need to rest!"
Three rough voices, filled with worry.
Yu Miaomiao stood up and looked down at the group.
She had lifted the magical control over them, but the men were still writhing on the ground in excruciating pain and terror from their fractured bones.
"I had a lot of fun with you guys."
She said, "I don't want to see this kind of behavior again."
"Otherwise, I wouldn't mind playing with you guys some more."
She stopped watching the group nod like chickens pecking at rice, turned and left.
As soon as she reached the corner, an overwhelming feeling of weakness and dizziness washed over her. Her legs gave way, and she knelt down, collapsing forward.
Her last moments of consciousness were marked by three urgent cries and the warmth of a chest catching her.
"cat……"
Yu Miaomiao only managed to utter one word before fainting.
When she regained consciousness, she found herself lying in a warm bed.
"woke up?"
A familiar voice rang out.
She turned her head and saw Jiang Cheng sitting on the edge of the bed, looking down at his phone. The sunlight divided his face into two hazy parts.
Just as Yu Miaomiao was about to speak, the other party seemed to have seen through her intentions and replied, "You were in your own dormitory. I brought you back. You were unconscious for 25 minutes."
It turns out that the sensations I felt before falling into a coma were not an illusion.
She struggled to sit up, a movement that made her breathless and her voice slightly ragged, "Cat."
"The cat was taken away by Aunt He and is being dealt with."
Jiang Cheng slammed his phone shut. "I've already reported this to Sister Xu Lan. She'll be here soon."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Xu Lan strode in.
She sat down on the edge of the bed. "Miaomiao, Chengyi, I have to thank you for revealing this."
"Those four people are assistants in the props team. One of them is the team leader's nephew, named Du Wei."
“We found videos of cat abuse that Du Wei filmed on his phone, and we also found that he uploaded many similar videos to Manjiao.”
"Several of them revealed the name of our film crew or a scene."
Xu Lan said solemnly, "Fortunately, we discovered it early. If it had been revealed after the promotional video was released, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
As a leading cat food company in the industry, the exposure of its promotional videos is self-evident. Such videos of cat abuse posted on public platforms will definitely be noticed by those with ulterior motives.
The fact that a member of the production crew was accused of abusing cats has already had a significant impact on the crew's reputation.
What's more, this is a semi-public service cat food promotion video, which is a slap in the face.
CatJoy's competitors were happy to fuel the fire, and buying trending topics and hiring online trolls were out of the question.
In the end, a promotional video that was originally intended to expand the market, increase influence, and do public good will instead become a stain that can't be washed off.
Xu Lan then looked at Jiang Chengyi, her tone changing as she said helplessly, "Chengyi, you mentioned this in the crew's group chat, but I guess it's not what you explained. You probably sent it to the wrong group."
"I know you're afraid that in order to minimize the impact and keep the peace, I'll try to downplay the issue and make it disappear, so you're making a big fuss so that it has to end decisively."
Jiang Chengyi neither admitted nor denied it, saying, "What does it matter whether it was sent by mistake or not?"
He said slowly and deliberately, "There are many people on set, and it's impossible to keep this kind of thing completely secret. It's better to make it public and do it under everyone's noses. That way, we can do some marketing."
"You! You!"
Xu Lan laughed heartily and said firmly, "Even if it's not made public, I will never tolerate it and let this matter end simply. Don't worry!"
She asked Yu Miaomiao a few more questions, telling the two of them that they had the afternoon off and would leave just as quickly as she had come.
After a short while, Yu Miaomiao felt she had regained some strength. She threw off the covers and stood up, but her legs gave way and she fell back down.
If Jiang Cheng hadn't helped him up, his knees would have hit the ground again.
Well, she overestimated herself.
Without batting an eye, she said, "Could you please get the capsules from my bag?"
Yu Miaomiao can now ask Jiang Chengyi for help without any burden.
She broke off the entire strip of capsules, a total of 14, and swallowed them all in one go.
The fear of being transformed back into her original form in the next second made her disregard whether Jiang Chengyi would find it strange.
Before long, the medicine took effect, the demonic power was exhausted, and the meridians that were almost stuck together were forcibly broken apart by the external force, bringing a tearing pain.
Yu Miaomiao's expression remained unchanged, only her tightly bitten lower lip betrayed a hint of her feelings.
This time, her demonic energy was depleted even more than last time, and Yu Miaomiao was only able to hold on by sheer willpower.
Logically, she should have reverted to her original form after falling into a coma due to the depletion of her demonic power. But for some reason, that didn't happen.
It seems I'll need to get another medical check-up after filming ends.
After briefly regaining some of her demonic power, she left the dormitory and headed towards the kitchen.
After taking a few steps, he suddenly turned around and saw Jiang Cheng following behind.
Before anyone could ask a question, the other person held up the bottle in their hand and said, "I'm going to deliver cleaning fluid to Aunt He."
She continued walking forward, a strange anger rising within her.
-
As soon as Aunt He saw Yu Miaomiao, she held her hand tightly.
"Miaomiao, thanks to you for saving Santiao. Santiao is blind and lame. Without you, he wouldn't have been able to escape and would have suffered a lot."
She wiped the moisture from the corners of her eyes, which were red-rimmed, clearly indicating that she had just cried.
Then she looked at Jiang Chengyi and said, "Xiao Jiang, thank you too. Miao Miao alone definitely can't beat those four brats."
Jiang Cheng handed the cleaning solution to Aunt He, saying, "This is a powerful cleaning solution specifically for pets; it can remove makeup from three of their faces."
Aunt He was pleasantly surprised, "Oh, thank you so much! I didn't dare use anything else, and even water was hard to wash it off. I was really worried about it."
Just as she was about to wash the cat, her colleague urged her to hurry up. Aunt He hesitated, "I just took off my shift for more than an hour, so I can't take it off again."
He had no choice but to ask Jiang Chengyi for help.
Three dogs were in a makeshift sink behind the kitchen, their fur wet.
Upon seeing Yu Miaomiao approach, it gave a short meow, as if to say, "Little cat, are you alright?"
Yu Miaomiao shook her head slightly; she wouldn't communicate with the cat if others were present.
Jiang Cheng carefully folded the sleeves of his white shirt upwards several times and secured them with cufflinks. He had only touched three of them when the cat hissed threateningly and leaped backwards.
Jiang Cheng glanced at Yu Miaomiao and shrugged helplessly, "I forgot, even cats are afraid of me, so only you can come."
Yu Miaomiao sat on a small stool, applying foam to the cat with clumsy and stiff movements.
This one-eyed cat was surprisingly tolerant of its kittens. It didn't meow even when its fur was being stroked against its natural direction, only letting out a soft meow to alert the kittens when foam got into their eyes.
Jiang Chengyi stood by and gave her pointers from time to time, telling her how to wash certain key areas.
After being washed, before Yu Miaomiao could dry them, the three dogs shook their fur and lay down on the dry grass to sunbathe, clearly not wanting to be abused anymore.
Yu Miaomiao handed the cleaning solution back to Jiang Chengyi, who took it and casually said, "I was following behind you when you were looking for the cat."
Her heart skipped a beat, yet she felt a strange sense of peace: it had finally arrived.
