Chapter 2
The school bus swayed and slowly drove across most of the campus before stopping at the school gate.
To the east is a bustling residential area, where Yu Miaomiao's rented apartment is located.
Back home, she took a shower and quickly dried her hair.
He opened a huge cabinet next to his desk, picked through the contents, and took out a bunch of cat food cans.
Then, in the blink of an eye, he disappeared completely, leaving behind a pile of clothes on the ground.
A moment later, a fluffy, golden little thing popped out of the clothes. It shook its messy fur, revealing a light pink nose and round, lake-green eyes.
That's right, Yu Miaomiao is a cat.
To be precise, he is a cat-like monster who attended monster elementary school, monster middle school, and monster high school from a young age.
While her monster classmates could only attend "monster-specific vocational colleges," she relied on her own efforts to get into the computer science department of University A, which ranked first in the country.
The kitten named Yu Miaomiao nimbly leaped twice, from the ground to the chair and then to the desk.
It lay on the soft cushion that had been prepared beforehand, enjoying its dinner: cat food and dried fish, while using its paw pads to slide the mouse and check the BOM company project that it had just completed.
BOM is a world-renowned internet company, a place that countless programmers flock to.
Two years ago, she stood out from tens of thousands of resumes submitted worldwide and became a part-time BOM expert, writing BOM projects remotely, with each project earning a considerable amount of money.
It ate while checking, taking its time, and ate three cans of cat food and four dried fish in a row—these things combined were almost bigger than its body.
Then the cat jumped onto the computer's front cover and used its body weight to close the computer.
As a demon with low demonic power, maintaining human form almost exhausted Yu Miaomiao's meager demonic power, making her always lazy. Therefore, when alone, she prefers to act in her original form.
It was almost bedtime. Yu Miaomiao licked her paws, washed her face, jumped into the soft cat bed, curled up in a comfortable position, and closed her eyes.
Not long after, it suddenly opened its eyes again.
She jumped onto the table, lit up her phone, and clicked on the WeChat article that Li Zhi had forwarded. She read it carefully from beginning to end, paying particular attention to the principal's speech. Her pupils trembled as she read it. When she scrolled into the comments section, she was so angry that her canine teeth bared.
[God is truly all-around amazing! I love him! My FA scholarship this year looks like a sure thing.]
[Not necessarily. I heard Yu Miaomiao from the Computer Science department also signed up.]
[While Miao Shen is undoubtedly impressive, awards these days consider all aspects; achievements and awards alone are not enough.]
[I second that. I'm in the Youth Association, and I've never seen Miao participate in any volunteer projects.]
[Jiang Shen has no weaknesses in this area. Not only is he the president of the Stray Animal Association at University A, but he also paid for the spaying and neutering of stray cats on campus and found them homes. I admire him.]
...
"Meow--!"
What shallow people! What's the point of participating in such a time-wasting volunteer project?
"Meow meow meow meow!"
Jiang Chengyi was just putting on a show. Are you all idiots? You could be fooled by that!
Yu Miaomiao was so angry that she couldn't sleep, so she simply jumped out of the window to clear her head.
The heat of September still lingered in City A, and it was early, so the neighborhood was full of people enjoying the cool air. Not far away was a food street, bustling with activity.
Yu Miaomiao had only been living in the neighborhood for a short time, and this was the first time she had gone out in her true form.
A strange cat has appeared in the neighborhood, and everyone seems quite curious about it. Every time it passes by, it elicits gasps of surprise.
The kitten's pointy ears twitched, and it vaguely heard people talking about it not far away, "How can there be such an adorable cat? Where is its owner? Is it a stray? I want to adopt it..."
Seeing people approaching, it quickened its pace and leaped into the dark bushes, hearing the regretful sighs of several people nearby.
To avoid being stared at again, the kitten climbed a tree, crossed the green area, and returned to its building.
That was the original plan.
If I hadn't happened to overhear people talking about Jiang Chengyi downstairs...
Yu Miaomiao swore that she was definitely not a kitten who liked to pry into other people's privacy.
His ears were so sensitive that he could clearly hear people talking on the phone from more than ten meters away.
"Jiang Chengyi, I'm begging you, please listen to me, okay?"
Hmm, that person is Jiang Chengyi?
Alarm bells rang in Yu Miaomiao's mind, and her competitive spirit quickly overwhelmed her already limited sense of morality.
It leaped lightly among the treetops, landing on Jiang Chengyi's head, and pricked up its ears to listen carefully.
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to be Jiang Chengyi's mother; her voice was gentle yet weary.
"Chengyi, don't you understand? Mom is doing this for your own good. Why do you have to go against Mom?"
"I don't think you're doing this for my own good," came the emotionless voice on the other end of the phone.
"No, you're still young, you don't know what you really want!"
The woman's voice grew increasingly agitated: "From childhood to adulthood, it was all your mother's plans that were made for you. Without me, how would you know where your future lies—"
The male voice cut him off abruptly: "If you're calling to say this, then don't call again."
"Chengyi, I'm not—"
With a "beep," the phone call ended, replaced by the heavy breathing of a boy.
Yu Miaomiao listened to a boring family drama and didn't get any useful information. Feeling that she had wasted her time, she jumped down from the tree and prepared to go home to sleep.
"Hmm, a cat?"
A familiar voice rang out from directly above the kitten's head.
The reason she was familiar with him was because just a few minutes earlier, Yu Miaomiao had been eavesdropping on his phone call.
The kitten stiffly raised its head little by little, and a face with clean and sharp features came into view.
The paw pads covered the cat's face.
Oh no, we've been found out.
The man skillfully grabbed the kitten by the scruff of its neck, lifted it up, and began to examine it out of professional habit.
Small and thin, but with well-developed teeth, indicating it's an adult. It doesn't have tear troughs, and its fur is in good condition, unlike a stray cat. Check its gender.
"Meow!"
The quiet kitten suddenly began to struggle violently, almost breaking free from his grasp.
Yu Miaomiao was utterly terrified by this abrupt male human.
Having just been caught off guard and feeling guilty, I was caught off guard and had the human grab me by the back of the neck, examining me from all sides, and even having my mouth pried open to check my teeth—that was already incredibly embarrassing.
Surprisingly, they even want to—
Absolutely not!
This concerns the kitten's dignity and privacy!
It pushed off with its hind legs and almost escaped from the man's grasp.
Unfortunately, Jiang Chengyi immediately controlled its body, firmly trapping it in front of his chest. His movements were so practiced that it seemed as if he had practiced it hundreds of times.
"It's quite energetic."
The kitten pressed against the man's chest, emitting a low, mocking vibration.
"Let's take you home first, and we'll find you a home tomorrow."
Despicable humans!
The kitten instinctively wanted to use its demonic power to teach this person a lesson. Even though its demonic power was weak, it was not something an ordinary human could easily manipulate!
But reason quickly brought it to a halt.
My demonic power is only a little bit, meow. If I use it all up, I won't be able to turn back into a human tomorrow, meow.
Yu Miaomiao was humiliated as she was held in this man's arms and taken home.
