Chapter 24
This cat is elusive, always appearing when Yu Miaomiao is alone, sometimes while she's walking, sometimes while she's studying in the classroom.
When walking, I would follow beside her; when studying, I would sit on the table. The only constant was her incessant chirping.
Unable to bear the harassment any longer, Yu Miaomiao called the law enforcement department.
The response was: "Ms. Yu Miaomiao, Mr. Lu Ye has already been detained for stealing your information. Bloodline analysis shows that Lu Ye is your father and daughter and has the right to contact you. Your previous confidentiality application is invalid, and Mr. Lu Ye has not violated the confidentiality law. There is nothing we can do about it."
She was so angry she almost smashed her phone.
In the end, we continued with the previous strategy: no response, no attention, and treating the cat like it didn't exist.
Once they got the hang of it, the two of them were able to untangle the net very quickly, and soon they had finished dealing with three more fields.
While dealing with a barn owl, Yu Miaomiao's hair got caught in the net by the owl's flapping wings.
Her hair was longer than her chest, thick and soft. Because tying it up would feel restrictive, she always wore it loose, but now it was in trouble.
Almost a third of the hair on the side was caught on the owl's wings and tangled tightly with the net.
Yu Miaomiao tore at the net and her hair, but her scalp hurt with the slightest movement.
"Don't move."
Jiang Cheng grabbed Yu Miaomiao's shoulder to stop her.
"The harder you wrap it, the tighter it gets," he said. "Try to get as close to the net as possible."
Yu Miaomiao approached, but the owl was startled and flapped its wings again. She subconsciously turned her head, but Jiang Chengyi held her head up.
"careful!"
"Let me adjust the angle."
His gaze was focused. With his left hand, he controlled Yu Miaomiao's tangled hair to prevent it from being torn, while with his right hand, he gently pinched her chin and turned it in one direction.
Yu Miaomiao stiffly tilted her chin up, feeling the warmth of the other person's fingers, and this warmth seemed to be the trigger, gradually spreading to other places.
She suddenly felt unwell, a feeling that even overwhelmed the pain of her hair being tangled, making her feel uncomfortable all over.
However, Jiang Chengyi quickly let go of her hands. He had already adjusted Yu Miaomiao to an angle where she wouldn't be affected by the owl or have her hair pulled.
Yu Miaomiao secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Jiang Cheng walked over to a spot not far away and took out a pair of scissors.
The cat, which had been meowing softly, suddenly started meowing loudly.
"Miaomiao, be careful, this human is taking advantage of you!"
Yu Miaomiao finally glanced at Lu Ye, but it was the look she gave him when she saw him as an idiot.
What nonsense is this cat spouting? How could Jiang Chengyi take advantage of her? Could it be that he's ruined his eyesight by staying in seclusion for over ten years?
Jiang Chengyi quickly came over, checked the tangled hair, and said, "You might need to cut some hair later."
He was more than a head taller than Yu Miaomiao, and the two stood very close together for easier handling.
Lu Ye shouted again, "Miao Miao, tell him to stay away from you!"
Yu Miaomiao was getting annoyed. She originally wanted Jiang Cheng to just cut off the knotted part for the sake of efficiency, since monsters' fur grows very quickly and it would be back to normal in no time.
But seeing Lu Ye anxiously circling around her, she suddenly changed her mind.
“Okay,” she replied to Jiang Chengyi, “I’m afraid of pain, so be gentle.”
Jiang Cheng gave a soft "hmm," his movements becoming even gentler, and he moved closer and closer to get a better look at the bundle.
Lu Ye was practically speaking in human language, "You damned human, stay away from my daughter!"
Yu Miaomiao moved closer to Jiang Chengyi and felt a sense of exhilaration as she listened to the big cat's increasingly shrill and piercing cries.
It took Jiang Cheng about ten minutes to cut a few strands of hair and the net rope, finally untangling the knot and rescuing the head owl.
The round-headed little owl drank some electrolyte water, quickly regained its energy, and flew away.
Lu Ye howled until his voice was hoarse, his cat-like eyes staring menacingly at Jiang Chengyi, as if he were looking at some enemy.
Even if Jiang Chengyi was slow to notice, he noticed that the cat was unusual.
He crouched down and looked at the cat that kept hissing at him but didn't move, and asked Yu Miaomiao, "Do you know this cat?"
Otherwise, why would the attitudes towards the two people be so different?
Yu Miaomiao vehemently denied it, saying, "I've never seen it."
Jiang Cheng stared intently at the cat and noticed something unusual. "It looks just like Miaomiao."
"Their fur color and eye color are very similar."
“It’s completely different.” Yu Miaomiao said with disgust, “This cat is ugly as hell, the ugliest cat I’ve ever seen.”
The big cat even forgot to hiss, its face showing a human-like expression of hurt and shock.
This was clearly a lie. Putting aside its strange behavior, the cat was indeed beautiful and spirited, with light golden fur, lake-green eyes, and thick, soft fur. If there was any difference, it was that this cat was extremely large, almost like a Maine Coon, while Miaomiao was tiny, only the size of Jiang Chengyi's palm.
But Jiang Chengyi, seeing the distinct emotions on Yu Miaomiao's face, did not refute her.
At this moment, both of them received phone calls, both from Xu Lan. She said that the promotional video had just been officially launched and asked them to share and interact with it on Weibo.
Yu Miaomiao was just about to end the discussion about the cat, so she quickly opened Weibo, reposted the video, and tagged the official account.
After doing all that, she remembered she hadn't seen the final version of the promotional video yet, so she decided to click on it and watch it. With the voice-over added, the promotional video was even better and flowed very smoothly.
Jiang Chengyi appeared behind Yu Miaomiao at some point and started watching together.
The big cat's voice became urgent and threatening again, and Yu Miaomiao was so disturbed that she couldn't watch the video. She glanced at it coldly.
"Shut up," she said silently.
The big cat immediately quieted down, sat obediently on the ground, and stopped bothering them; its golden fur even dimmed.
But soon, he rallied his spirits. Although he had been scolded, this was the first time Miaomiao had spoken to him on her own initiative.
It seems his actions have been effective. Lu Ye thought to himself that he needed to work even harder in the future!

CatJoy Company is financially powerful. After the promotional video was released, several trending topics followed, quickly attracting many passersby.
In just one afternoon, the promotional video garnered 100,000 likes, a remarkable figure without the support of celebrity endorsements. Combined with the online adoption event, nearly one hundred stray cats were adopted that day.
Seeing this result, Yu Miaomiao breathed a sigh of relief. She was thinking that if this project failed, its value would not be so high. In that case, in order to ensure a minimum, she would definitely have to plan another project, and the already tight schedule would need to be compressed even more.
But since the promotional video is so successful, she can now focus on other things.
After finishing her classes this afternoon, she found an empty classroom and prepared to work on the programming projects that BOM Company had been backlogging.
As a part-time BOM staff member, she has a lot of free time and doesn't need to report on project progress regularly; she just needs to submit her work within the deadline.
These past few days, due to a series of events, this project has been piling up for a long time. With the deadline approaching, the employee she was in contact with has been urging her several times, both openly and subtly, to finish it as soon as possible.
"Meow meow meow meow?"
Miaomiao, was that you in the phone just now? Did you film an advertisement?
As she diligently typed on the keyboard, a large cat persistently disturbed her from the side, but she remained unperturbed, treating the noise as mere white noise.
"Miaomiao, I'm here!"
Li Zhi rushed into the classroom from outside, with silver twin ponytails, wearing a leather combat suit, and a gun tucked into her waistband.
Yu Miaomiao didn't even look up. "You're half an hour late."
Li Zhi carefully moved to the other person's side and explained, "I'm sorry, there was a traffic jam today, and I didn't even have time to change my clothes before I rushed over."
A week ago, Li Zhi learned the devastating news that she could no longer copy homework from the student who ranked first in her major. Devastated, she pleaded with Yu Miaomiao to help her with her homework.
Because there was a comic convention today, she had arranged to study together with Yu Miaomiao at 6 p.m., but she misjudged the time and was so late.
Yu Miaomiao has always been someone who values promises very much.
Li Zhi looked at the other person pitifully, trying to convey her sincere apology with her eyes. Her fair face, after washing off her makeup, looked exceptionally innocent.
She waited for a while, and when she saw that Yu Miaomiao didn't say anything, she knew that the matter was over. She quickly took out her computer and started doing her homework.
"Miaomiao, there are several things I don't understand, you..."
As soon as the strangely dressed Li Zhi rushed into the room, the big cat Lu Ye darted into the curtains.
For him, this kind of performance art called COS was still too ahead of its time.
After waiting for a while and finding that the person was not unusual, but rather very close to Yu Miaomiao, he came out from behind the curtains and returned to the table.
Li Zhi looked up during a break from her work and noticed the big cat, and couldn't help but marvel.
"Wow, what a beautiful big cat, Miaomiao, look!"
Yu Miaomiao pretended not to hear, while Li Zhi was not discouraged and took out her phone to take pictures from different angles.
Lu Ye calmly licked his fur.
Li Zhi put her phone away with satisfaction and admired her work.
"I'm going to post it on Weibo so my fans can see it too."
Her Weibo account has nearly two million followers, and she mainly posts about her daily life and cosplay process.
After opening Weibo, she habitually scrolled through the trending topics, then screamed, "Miaomiao, you're trending!"
Yu Miaomiao's gaze remained fixed on the screen, and she hummed in agreement, "I know."
Her name appeared on a trending search list that was driving traffic to the promotional video for CatJoy.
Li Zhi continued screaming, "When did you participate in CAE? And you even made it to the finals? How come I didn't know?"
"I saw the registration information a couple of days ago and submitted it casually."
Yu Miaomiao paused, realizing the key point, "CAE trending?"
Li Zhi handed the phone to the other person, "Look, there's more than one."
Yu Miaomiao took the phone and immediately saw her name trending on the hot search.
#Yu Miaomiao, Zhang Mingxuan#
Upon clicking, I discovered that I and someone named Zhang Mingxuan had entered the CAE finals together. Because this competition is extremely difficult, all the other finalists, except for the two of us, were programmers in their thirties or forties, which sparked a lot of discussion.
She exited the page and saw another trending topic: #A-UniversityIsAwesome#. She instinctively felt that this trending topic was also related to her, and when she clicked on it, sure enough, it was.
[The only two university students who made it to the CAE finals are both from the Computer Science Department of University A. No wonder it's a top-tier university in China; University A is awesome! CAE is an internationally renowned game programming competition, with participants from all over the world…]
"Oh, what's this Zhang Mingxuan? Who is he?"
Li Zhi leaned closer and belatedly noticed that there was another name listed next to Yu Miaomiao.
