Daily life in love
When Yu Miaomiao came to her senses and saw herself in the mirror, her face flushed red.
She punched Jiang Cheng a couple of times, but her limbs were weak and even her fingertips were numb, so she had no strength to hit him and could only resort to verbal accusations.
"I told you to stop, stop! Didn't you hear me?!"
He was clearly very angry when he spoke.
But as soon as she spoke, she realized that her voice was completely hoarse and lacked any power.
"I'm sorry, Miaomiao."
Jiang Chengyi looked very guilty. "I'll be more careful next time."
Meanwhile, he washed the towel and began wiping the girl's right hand.
That hand was snow-white and slender, with well-proportioned finger bones. The fingertips had calluses from years of typing on the keyboard, but the palm was red, looking as if it had been rubbed too much, making it look particularly pitiful.
Apply a hot towel to the palms, then wipe from the base of the fingers to the fingertips, inch by inch, carefully and thoroughly, leaving no spot untouched.
Yu Miaomiao stared at Jiang Chengyi's face in the mirror and felt that there was joy in his eyebrows and eyes.
But upon closer inspection, his expression was quite sincere.
In the end, considering that Jiang Chengyi was a first-time offender and it was during the Lunar New Year, she reluctantly forgave him.
Jiang Chengyi finally finished wiping her down. At Yu Miaomiao's insistence, he let go of her and put her down, looking somewhat regretful.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, a wave of soreness washed over her, and she quickly grabbed the sink for support.
Looking down, she noticed her disheveled clothes; her thin pajamas were soaked with sweat and wrinkled from the accident.
She said, "Bring me the clothes from my closet, I need to change."
Jiang Chengyi quickly brought the clothes, and she stepped forward to take them. Because she had lost her support, she swayed a little.
The other person helped her up and asked considerately, "Are you sure you can manage on your own? Or should I help you?"
Yu Miaomiao pushed him outside and slammed the door shut. "I'll do it myself!"
-
Fortunately, the two woke up early enough that it was only nine o'clock when they finished their commotion.
At noon, Jiang Cheng made a quick meal and then began preparing the New Year's Eve dinner.
Yu Miaomiao was eager to help, but he pushed her out the door.
She retorted, "I've watched a lot of cooking videos lately, so it definitely won't be like before!"
Jiang Chengyi didn't want to discourage her, nor did he want the New Year's Eve dinner to be ruined. After much deliberation, he finally came up with a solution.
"Miaomiao, I have another task for you."
He rummaged through the cabinet and pulled out a stack of couplets and paper-cut window decorations, handing them to her.
"You'll be in charge of putting up the couplets."
Yu Miaomiao happily accepted the task.
Jiang Chengyi bought a lot of couplets and window decorations, a thick stack of all sizes. Yu Miaomiao pasted them on the front door, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, and also pasted window decorations on every piece of glass. There were still many left.
She wandered around the room, searching for a place to stick it, and finally her eyes settled on the desk.
As night fell, Jiang Cheng brought out a plate of dishes and saw Yu Miaomiao standing in front of the desk, fiddling with something.
He stepped forward and couldn't help but laugh.
It turned out that their computers were also decorated with small couplets and paper-cut window decorations, making them look especially festive.
Yu Miaomiao pasted the last "Fu" character onto the back of the computer, looked at it from left to right, and was very satisfied. "How is it?"
Jiang Chengyi smiled and said, "It's very good."
As darkness fell, the control over the setting off of fireworks and firecrackers had just been relaxed this year. Outside the window, the crackling and popping of firecrackers could be heard incessantly, accompanied by the laughter of children, making it sound extremely lively.
The two sat down to eat. Jiang Chengyi put all his effort into this meal, and one dish had even been stewing since the night before.
When she smelled the aroma, Yu Miaomiao's eyes lit up with anticipation. Once she started eating, she ate one bite after another like a greedy little kitten.
Finally, she put down her chopsticks with satisfaction and solemnly said to Jiang Chengyi, "This is the best dish I have ever eaten."
Jiang Chengyi looked at Yu Miaomiao tenderly and smiled, "If you like, I'll make it for you often."
After finishing their meal, it was exactly eight o'clock. Jiang Cheng turned on the projector to watch the Spring Festival Gala, and the unfamiliar yet familiar opening remarks began.
Yu Miaomiao only glanced at it before looking down at her phone, looking rather uninterested.
Jiang Chengyi keenly noticed her emotions, "Miaomiao doesn't like the Spring Festival Gala?"
Yu Miaomiao wrinkled her nose. "I hate it."
“When we spent the Spring Festival at the orphanage, the adults would sit together to watch the Spring Festival Gala, and we would always be ordered around, moving chairs for them, pouring wine, and cleaning and washing dishes after the meal.”
"Now, whenever I watch the Spring Festival Gala, I think of that time."
So, during Yu Miaomiao's first year of college, spending the Spring Festival alone, she made no preparations. As usual, she ate a can of cat food, wrote code until midnight, and then went to bed.
Jiang Cheng was taken aback for a moment, then he stood up and turned off the projector.
"In that case, we won't watch it."
He produced a huge pile of fireworks as if by magic, saying, "Let's go set off fireworks."
The two then got dressed and went to the rooftop to set off fireworks.
On the rooftop, a thick layer of snow had accumulated, and walking on it made a rustling sound.
The distant Yangtze River reflected the neon lights, creating a dazzling display. A fleeting, faint light appeared on the horizon, indicating that someone was setting off fireworks.
Jiang Cheng first placed a large firework on the open ground and lit it. With a "whoosh," a flash of light rose into the sky. Yu Miaomiao covered her ears and looked up. Huge and intricate golden flowers bloomed against the dark blue sky. Then another one appeared, followed by purple, red, blue, and green flowers, one after another, turning the sky into a flower garden.
Yu Miaomiao stared blankly at the sky. This was the first time in her memory that she had seen fireworks so closely. She had never imagined that real fireworks could be so beautiful.
Of course, there were fireworks at the orphanage. Adults and children gathered in the yard, excitedly setting off fireworks, while she and a group of children at the very bottom of the social hierarchy washed dishes in the kitchen.
Her impression of fireworks was only the deafening explosions and the fleeting glimpse of light through the window.
In the years that followed, she no longer had to wash dishes, but she also no longer wanted to watch fireworks.
She hated the smiling faces of that group of people, hated the enthusiastic atmosphere, as if there was nothing to look forward to in the coming year.
But now, for some reason, gazing at the dazzling fireworks, her heart was filled with joy and anticipation, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up.
Yu Miaomiao watched for a long time until Jiang Cheng took her hands off her ears and all around was silent. Only then did she realize that it was over.
Jiang Cheng asked, "Miaomiao, what did you wish for just now?"
She was taken aback. "Can I make a wish? I don't know."
"Sure, Miaomiao, do you want to know what I wished for?"
"What?"
Jiang Chengyi said, "I hope Miaomiao gets better soon, and also, we can spend next year's Spring Festival together."
He smiled and said, "Two wishes? Isn't that a bit too greedy?"
Yu Miaomiao thought for a moment and said seriously, "I didn't make a wish. Giving you mine is just right."
Jiang Cheng hugged her. The weather was cold, but his body was warm. His voice was low. "Miaomiao, you're making me more and more greedy."
She asked, puzzled, "Greedy for what?"
The other person didn't explain, but quietly hugged her for a long time before picking up other fireworks.
"Let's set off some small fireworks."
-
As a result of playing outdoors in the freezing cold, Yu Miaomiao developed a high fever the next day.
Yu Miaomiao woke up normally and ate normally, but kept missing food when picking it up with her chopsticks, muttering, "Why is my vision a little blurry?"
Jiang Chengyi looked at her flushed face, touched her forehead to check her temperature, and immediately became serious.
"You have a fever."
The temperature was measured at 40 degrees Celsius with a thermometer.
Jiang Cheng couldn't sit still any longer. He helped Yu Miaomiao put on a coat, a hat, and a scarf, and then took her downstairs to the hospital.
Yu Miaomiao thought he was making a mountain out of a molehill, "A little medicine will do the trick, there's no need to go to the hospital."
He shoved the girl into the car and firmly refused, saying, "No, you have to go."
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the hospital only had the emergency room. A young monster examined Yu Miaomiao. After seeing the test results, he scratched his head, looking very puzzled.
"Wait, your test results don't seem like a fever, but the temperature is definitely very high..."
He ordered two more tests for Yu Miaomiao to do, and while they were waiting for the results, Xu Zhou called.
Yu Miaomiao answered the phone, and Xu Zhou's enthusiastic voice rang out, "Hello, Miaomiao, Happy New Year!"
She hummed in agreement, "Happy New Year."
The other party immediately got to the point, not even bothering with pleasantries, "You've been taking the medication for a week now, have you noticed any changes in your health?"
She said, "I didn't feel anything, but I suddenly developed a fever today."
Xu Zhou said happily, "That's right, these are the symptoms of awakening talent. Come here quickly, I'll give you a full test!"
The two then left the hospital and headed towards the Yokai Department.
Xu Zhou was the only person in the lab. Compared to the freakish doctor in the hospital's emergency department who was full of resentment, he was radiant and showed no signs of the pain of being on duty.
As soon as Yu Miaomiao arrived, Xu Zhou immediately pushed her into the examination room, saying, "Hurry, hurry, I can't wait!"
After a series of tests, Xu Zhou looked at the results and laughed wildly, shouting, "I knew it! I knew it! My hypothesis was correct!"
Yu Miaomiao silently moved away from him. "So what was the result?"
He laughed for a while before stopping and explained, "Although we haven't found anything similar in previous cases of innate abilities, we can infer from the analysis of your physical indicators that you possess the ability to attract and soothe monsters, especially those of the same kind."
“I think that’s why you can suppress the snow leopard’s abilities.”
Yu Miaomiao pondered, "So, that's why those cats want to get close to me?"
"Very likely."
Xu Zhou pushed up his glasses. "Wait here, I'll give you another course of medication."
"If you already know, why take medicine?"
"You've only developed your abilities to a preliminary stage, and you can probably only utilize about one-tenth of their effectiveness. To fully develop them, you'll need to take more medication."
Yu Miaomiao immediately refused, "I don't want to."
She looked at Jiang Chengyi, "Let's go."
Having already realized my own capabilities, there's no need for me to stay any longer.
"Miaomiao!"
Xu Zhou lunged forward and grabbed Yu Miaomiao's clothes, his eyes filled with longing for papers and journals.
"Don't do that, my new paper depends entirely on you!"
Yu Miaomiao tugged at her clothes, but couldn't budge them. "Why don't you find someone else to do the experiments? Can't you use those snow leopards?"
Upon hearing this, Xu Zhou retorted confidently, "How is that? Your abilities are unparalleled, far more precious than a snow leopard's!"
"don't want."
Yu Miaomiao refused again and pulled Jiang Cheng away.
"Miaomiao, please don't be so cruel to me, I beg you..."
Behind them, Xu Zhou's desperate pleas gradually faded into the distance.
Yu Miaomiao only breathed a sigh of relief after getting into the car.
Jiang Cheng asked, "This ability seems quite useful, why is Miao Miao unwilling to use it?"
Yu Miaomiao frowned, "Do you remember when we went to the cat cafe? Before I had any development skills, those cats and dogs liked to stick to me. If I had fully developed them..."
Imagine the chaotic scene of the cats pouncing on her, multiplied tenfold...
She shook her head violently, "Absolutely not!"
