Daily life in love
Yu Miaomiao's medical examination results were not available until the end of the trip.
Xu Zhou explained that a very peculiar component was detected in the extracted blood, which requires further research.
A week before the Lunar New Year, he finally called, excitedly saying that there was a result.
When Yu Miaomiao received the call, Jiang Chengyi happened to be at the pet hospital, so she took a taxi there herself.
The laboratory was empty before the Lunar New Year, with only a few pale-faced researchers. The excited Xu Zhou felt out of place among them.
“Miaomiao, I also detected this component in the bodies of those snow leopards that have the ability to hide. I judge that it is very likely a marker of a talent.”
Yu Miaomiao was a little interested. "What ability?"
"It's not clear yet, but perhaps it's this ability that allows you to suppress the snow leopard's spatial jump."
"Here's what I'll do. I'll give you some medicine to help you develop your abilities. Take it for a few days and you'll probably understand."
Yu Miaomiao left the Monster Department with a large bag of medicine in her pocket.
This winter is much colder than usual. It snowed heavily when I went out, and within a few hours, a thick layer of snow had accumulated.
She got out of the taxi and was about to walk towards the residential area when she heard the soft sound of footsteps in the snow behind her; someone was approaching.
Before Yu Miaomiao could turn around, she was pulled into a warm embrace, and a light fragrance lingered around her nose.
Jiang Chengyi's low voice sounded above him, "Why didn't you tell me you were going out?"
"Xu Zhou said my test results are in."
Yu Miaomiao gave a brief explanation, holding up the medicine in her hand to show it off, "Three times a day."
The two walked together toward the apartment building. The snow was so thick that she trudged along, her steps uneven. After a while, she stopped and said, "Why is it so hard to walk?"
As soon as he finished speaking, his knees were hooked up, and he was suddenly suspended in the air as Jiang Cheng picked him up.
The whole set of movements was so fluid and graceful that it took Yu Miaomiao a while to come to her senses. "What are you doing?"
Jiang Cheng lowered his head and smiled slightly: "This way it won't be difficult to walk."
Having said that, he took another step and walked forward.
Jiang Chengyi's embrace was steady and firm, swaying slightly with every movement, creating a unique sense of rhythm.
After walking a short distance, he looked down and saw Yu Miaomiao pressing her cheek against his chest. From his angle, he could only see her long eyelashes and slightly furrowed brows, looking very serious.
His heart suddenly softened. "What are you doing?"
Yu Miaomiao then looked up and said, "I'm listening to your heartbeat."
"You've been walking for so long, and it hasn't gotten any faster."
Jiang Cheng chuckled, "Because you're too light, I can't feel you when I hold you."
Yu Miaomiao immediately retorted, "I'm not light at all! I just weighed myself yesterday, and I weigh 92 jin!"
"It's clearly because you're too strong!"
At this point, she curiously poked the bulging muscles on Jiang Cheng's arm. "How did you train to be so strong?"
Jiang Chengyi said, "I often play basketball, and when I'm having surgery, I have to raise my hands for hours at a time, so I gradually developed the skills."
Yu Miaomiao wondered, "I also type on the computer frequently, sometimes for hours at a time, so why haven't I gotten stronger?"
Jiang Chengyi fell silent.
Jiang Chengyi had no way to explain.
Once inside, he put Yu Miaomiao down, and the two took the elevator. Jiang Chengyi stopped at Yu Miaomiao's floor and said, "I'll take you."
As soon as they opened the door, murky water gushed out of the house. The two quickly stepped back and looked up, only to be shocked by what they saw inside.
The floor had turned into a vast expanse of water, several centimeters deep. Carpets, tables, chairs, and beds were all submerged in water. Hissing and splashing sounds came from the ceiling. The windows had also vanished, and the gale was blowing blizzard snow into the room. A thick layer of snow had already accumulated on the tabletop and surrounding areas.
Yu Miaomiao's first thought was her computer. She rushed into the room, wiped the snow off the desktop, and rescued the computer.
Then, I called the property management company.
The property management staff arrived quickly and, after an inspection, determined the cause of the incident.
It turns out that the weather was too cold these past two days, and the water pipes, which had been neglected for years, froze and burst, causing the entire room to be flooded. Then, the wind and snow were too strong, and the hardware on the window came loose, causing the entire window to be blown off.
Yu Miaomiao is now more concerned about the follow-up work: "When can it be fixed?"
"Well... it's hard to say."
The property manager wiped his brow. "The water pipes are easy to fix, but the room's electrical circuits are short-circuited and require a full inspection. The ceiling is also cracked from the water and needs to be repainted, and the windows need to be installed... It's really hard to find someone to help during the Chinese New Year."
In short, don't expect it to be fixed before the Lunar New Year, and who knows how long it will take after the Lunar New Year.
Faced with such a distressing situation, Yu Miaomiao is already considering whether to rent a different place after the New Year.
But the most urgent task is to find a place to stay.
Just as she was browsing her phone looking for a hotel, Jiang Chengyi casually suggested, "Why don't you stay at my place for a while?"
Yu Miaomiao put down her phone, intrigued by the suggestion.
First, there's no need to look for a hotel; second, Jiang Chengyi's house is right downstairs, which is very convenient; and since the two of them are dating, there's nothing wrong with living together, right?
But she hesitated for a moment, "Wouldn't that be inconvenient for you?"
Jiang Chengyi: "I bought a lot of ingredients, and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish them all by myself. Your arrival is just in time."
When the topic of ingredients came up, Yu Miaomiao immediately thought of Jiang Chengyi's culinary skills, and her eyes lit up. "Great!"
She tidied up the few remaining dry clothes and essentials in the closet, and then returned home with Jiang Cheng.
Although I had been to his house several times before, this was the first time I had seen toothbrushes placed on the sink and bath towels hung on a shelf, which felt quite magical.
After tidying everything up, it was already quite late. Yu Miaomiao had been busy all day and was a little sleepy.
She ate a little something and then went to wash up. When she came out, Jiang Chengyi had already put on new sheets and changed the quilt.
She snuggled into the warm blankets, and the cozy feeling made her squint her eyes.
After changing the quilt, Jiang Chengyi took out a mattress and spread it on the floor.
Yu Miaomiao transformed into her original form, rolled around on the bed, and seeing his actions, asked, "What are you doing?"
Jiang Cheng said, "I'll sleep here tonight."
Why are you sleeping on the floor?
He explained, "It's a bit cramped for two people to sleep together."
The kitten tilted its head, puzzled. "The bed is really big. Didn't we sleep like this before?"
Besides, how much space can one kitten take up?
Jiang Cheng coughed lightly and turned his head away somewhat awkwardly, "That was a special case, it was too cold over there..."
But Yu Miaomiao didn't care about any of that. She patted the spot next to her and commanded, "Come up and sleep."
Jiang Cheng had no choice but to obey.
Yu Miaomiao was overjoyed to have a human heater again. She nestled in her special sleeping spot—Jiang Chengyi's neck—and began to snore comfortably.
But soon after, something unusual happened.
Yu Miaomiao transformed into human form with a bang, her cheeks pressed against Jiang Cheng's, their noses almost touching, their breaths mingling.
Because it happened so suddenly, Yu Miaomiao was stunned for a moment before she sat up and blinked in confusion, "What happened? I didn't mean to turn into human form."
She tried to revert to her original form, but to no avail.
Jiang Cheng asked, "Did you eat anything special today?"
"The medicine was given by Xu Zhou," Yu Miaomiao said without hesitation.
Thinking of this, she immediately called Xu Zhou. He was woken up but wasn't angry. He chuckled and said, "Oh dear, there really is this side effect. I forgot to tell you."
"For the first few days after taking the medicine, I can't control the changes in my appearance, but it will get better in a few days. Remember to stay home as much as possible."
After hanging up the phone, Yu Miaomiao complained, "Why does he always do such deceitful things?"
But since things have come to this, we can only accept it.
Once she transformed into human form, it would be inappropriate for her to sleep on Jiang Chengyi. Reluctantly, she got off the heater and lay down next to Jiang Chengyi.
A 1.5-meter bed is indeed not very spacious for two adults, especially since Jiang Chengyi has broad shoulders.
As they lay down, Yu Miaomiao felt their bodies pressed tightly together, with a constant stream of heat emanating from the point of contact.
She tried her best to suppress the urge to pounce on Jiang Cheng and closed her eyes to sleep.
What Yu Miaomiao didn't know was that after she fell asleep, without any rational restraint, her body spontaneously moved closer to the heat source, clamping Jiang Chengyi's thighs between her legs, hugging his arm, burying her face in the crook of his neck, and falling fast asleep.
Jiang Cheng gently moved Yu Miaomiao's legs off a part of his body and carefully adjusted the position of her head.
But within seconds, the girl put her legs back in their original positions, and her cheeks were buried in her neck again, with practiced ease.
Jiang Cheng wanted to try again, but as soon as he touched Yu Miaomiao's face, she snorted in dissatisfaction and buried her head even deeper, as if she wanted to burrow into his collar.
He had no choice but to give up, feeling the shallow breaths in the crook of his neck, he gave a bitter laugh, imagined himself as a mindless puppet, and closed his eyes.
-
The next day.
Yu Miaomiao was awakened by the bright daylight.
She opened her eyes and stared at the familiar ceiling, momentarily forgetting where she was, thinking she was in her own home.
After rolling around twice, she regained consciousness and realized that she was sleeping in Jiang Chengyi's bed.
But what about Jiang Chengyi?
Yu Miaomiao looked at her empty bed, where she was all alone.
Did they go out?
She picked up her phone and made a call, but the phone rang on her desk instead.
She walked over, picked up her phone, and became puzzled.
Why would you go out without your phone? Are you still at home?
Just then, his phone rang again. Judging from the name, it must be one of his teachers.
Yu Miaomiao then held up her phone and shouted, "Jiang Chengyi!"
She called out twice, but no one answered. She then went to the kitchen to look around, but no one was there either.
As she passed the restroom, she noticed the door was closed. She listened intently and heard breathing coming from inside.
Are you here?
She knocked on the door. "Someone's calling you."
No one responded.
Did I hear wrong?
Yu Miaomiao pressed her ear against the door to confirm that she could hear breathing inside.
However, it wasn't the steady breathing of Jiang Chengyi that she was familiar with; instead, it was suppressed, rapid, and irregular, even with a slight tremor.
She was startled, thinking something had happened to Jiang Chengyi, and pounded on the door.
"Jiang Chengyi, what's wrong? Did something happen? Speak up!"
"Jiang Chengyi!"
But there was no response from inside the door, and the breathing became even heavier.
What happened? Did she faint?
Yu Miaomiao ignored the phone, tossed it aside, and ran to the living room to find the spare key to the bathroom.
Jiang Chengyi had told her where the key was. She found the key, ran to open the door, and was about to insert the key into the lock when she heard Jiang Chengyi's hoarse voice.
"Miaomiao, don't open the door."
Finally, she received a response, and she felt relieved. She asked, "What's wrong? Why didn't you answer me earlier?"
"fine."
The voice was low and slow, as if it was suppressing something.
"It'll be over soon, very soon..."
