Chapter 33

Chapter 33

"Chris really embarrassed me today!"

That evening, as Spencer walked out of the veterinary school gate, he rubbed his bald head in frustration and complained to the people around him in a low voice, "Teacher, you don't know, I asked him to give me an exam about indigestion, but he gave me a bloating exam instead! I've lost all my face in front of the students!"

The old man beside him chuckled. "You absolutely can't use a student like that a second time. It'll ruin your plans. But what about that student? I thought Jana was just going through the motions, so why did he take it so seriously?"

"Who knows!" Spencer thought for a moment, then lowered his voice. "But I have to say, that kid's eyes are really sharp. Do you know how long it took him to determine it was gastric flatulence? Less than a minute! And he even pointed out a problem with one of the horses' lungs, even though the assessment for that horse was clearly just a hoof replacement!"

"Are there lung problems?" The old man was a little surprised. "What about the exam content? How did you get the certification?"

"Don't we have two X-ray machines at our school?" Spencer smiled sheepishly. "I only used them briefly, but it turns out the kid was right! It's a good thing we caught it early, otherwise, if the horse showed signs of pulmonary fibrosis, we might not have been able to keep it."

The old man leaned on his cane, the golden ring on his finger gleaming. "Are you saying that he is not an unlearned dandy, but an outstanding talent?"

"Yes, I later checked his theoretical exam results. Oh my god! You wouldn't believe it, he got full marks in three subjects!" Spencer gestured exaggeratedly. "He must have an unparalleled passion for veterinary medicine to work so hard. He might not even have time to eat or sleep!"

"Oh, right!" Spencer's eyes lit up. "Maybe we can invite him to take part in the college's recruitment exam this year! He's absolutely perfect to be a professor!"

The old man looked at him sideways when he heard this. "A country veterinarian?"

After he finished speaking, Spencer's face flushed, "Sorry, teacher, I'm abrupt... huh?"

The professor suddenly sniffed in the middle of his words, "Hmm? Teacher, do you smell it? What's that smell? It smells so good!"

The old man didn't say anything, but raised his head slightly.

In front of the two of them, the wooden door of the Willow Creek Tavern was wide open, and everyone inside was craning their necks to look deeper.

An indescribable fragrance that is hard to ignore slowly drifts out on the cool breeze.

A familiar figure was walking out of the kitchen carrying a tray, surrounded by several people in white chef uniforms. They were talking non-stop, looking excited and anxious.

"Lingert?" Spencer called out subconsciously, "Why are you here?"

Lingert heard the noise and looked back.

The tray in his hand turned half a circle backwards as he moved, and the gazes of the chefs and the guests in the hall also turned along with it.

"Professor?" Lingert's face was expressionless. "I'm staying here for my last night."

"No!" a man wearing a chef's hat suddenly shouted, then realized his voice was a little loud and immediately put on a begging expression, "If there's nothing else, please stay a few more days! Don't worry, our boss will cover all the expenses for your room! You don't have to worry about anything! As long as you, you can agree to make this plate of lamb shoulder a few more times!"

What? Lingert made this himself?

Spencer's mouth opened into an O shape. Such a unique and fascinating taste was actually cooked by Lingate?!

How is this possible!

"I'm very busy, so I'm sorry," Lingert shook his head and raised his eyes. "Well, professor, goodbye."

After saying that, he turned around and prepared to continue walking up.

However, a voice suddenly called him.

"Please wait."

It was the old man with the cane. He took off his hat and glanced vaguely at the tray in Lin Weilun's hand. "Spencer and I just discussed your exam. There are some problems. Do you have time? We can talk face to face."

Spencer was bewildered. "Problem?" "What's wrong with Lingert's test?" "He passed with flying colors."

And even if there is a problem, it is not worth the teacher's attention or even discussion, right?

But since the teacher said so, there must be a reason.

Spencer walked over, his eyes fixed on the tray. He introduced, "Lingert, this is Mr. Edward William, the Honorary Dean of our Royal Veterinary College. He's been paying close attention to your exam and is fully aware of your uh...condition, so you'd better listen to what he points out."

Lin Weilun was a little annoyed, but the licensing exam would determine whether he could open a clinic on his own. So he paused for a few seconds and then stepped aside.

"Then please follow me."

However, surprisingly, Dean William did not move.

He looked at Lin Weilun with a smile and said, "Before that, does the kitchen have any extra lamb shoulders? I like to talk about work over delicious food."

"I'm really sorry to disappoint you," Lin Weilun lowered his eyes and smiled condescendingly, "I only prepared a single portion."

"That doesn't matter. I brought this with me. Maybe it can serve as an 'admission ticket'?" William turned around and nodded at Spencer.

The latter was stunned for two seconds before he realized what was going on and took out a bottle of wine from his bag.

"Pain's Tequila, born in 1925, is my most cherished vintage. Please," the old man said, his smile resembling a fox's. "I just want to try it."

When Jana came to the house, she did seem to mention that a guy named Lingert was good at cooking.

But what can’t be eaten in London, the glory of the world?

William didn't take it to heart until now.

He couldn't describe the smell at that moment, he only knew that there would be an empty table at Royal Rose tonight.

Lin Weilun stared at the glass bottle in front of him and couldn't take his eyes off it.

It turned out to be a three-year-old Patrón Tequila, known as the Highland Smurf from Jalisco, Mexico.

The slow natural fermentation method and pure handmade method have made Patron famous both at home and abroad.

This bottle can even be sold at a high price of 800-1200 pounds in later generations, which is rare.

He had also tried to purchase a collection before traveling through time, but ultimately failed for various reasons.

I didn't expect it to be delivered to him automatically now.

Then what's the reason to refuse?

What's more, he did make a lot, so it was no problem for two people to finish it.

As for Professor Spencer...

Since they are here to help get the wine, they shouldn’t refuse to sit for a while, right?

"If you can bring your own bread," Lin Weilun turned and looked up, "then please come along. Oh, and by the way," he looked at the chefs behind him, "could you please bring me a basket of fruit? It has to be absolutely fresh, pineapple would be even better, and some spices and crushed ice, thank you."

"No problem at all!" The chefs rushed to the kitchen. Even the boss of Liuxi was desperately shouting, "Hurry up! Run faster! Don't keep Mr. Lingert waiting too long!"

A basket of fresh fruits and a large box of spices were delivered to the guest room. The chefs did not dare to crowd in and disturb them, so they could only sneak out. Then seven or eight people pressed their ears against the door, and some even lay on the ground and looked inside through the gap.

Lin Weilun stuffed the expensive bottle into the ice bucket as if it were his own wine, waited for the mist-like water vapor to cover the entire bottle, and then slowly poured out the magnificent wine.

Then he pours in the juice of freshly grated pineapple and watermelon, piles the bottom with crushed ice, and finishes it with lime juice and mint.

"A novel way to mix a cocktail," William took it, gently swirling the glass as he watched the sea-like color drift in the mist created by the ice. "The Ritz only uses gin and whiskey as the base, with the indispensable bitters and cinnamon."

Spencer had nothing in his hands, couldn't help coughing twice, and moved forward.

However, the teacher who loved him didn't even look away, and just took a sip.

The next second, the old man closed his eyes.

A full-bodied tequila has a smoky and chocolatey flavor, which is often associated with "heavy" and "complex."

But the juice of the fruit neutralizes the roughness that has been precipitated over a long period of time, blending the unruly nature of Mexico into a softer and more delicate taste, like snow-white frost covering the hot and burning earth.

The throat seemed to be flowing with a trickle of water, not to mention the presence of mint, which was cold but extremely clear, like opening the window of early winter in a hot pub, all the drowsiness and sticky hesitation were blown away, leaving only clarity and happiness.

William put down his wine glass and almost couldn't wait to taste the lamb shoulder and buttermilk puff pastry.

When the piece of meat coated in sauce slid to the bottom of his stomach, he almost burst into tears.

What kind of delicious food is this? Although it looks like lamb that requires a lot of chewing, it is as soft and tender as a juicy marshmallow the moment it enters your mouth.

It had clearly slid deep into his body, but the sauce like waves seemed to still linger on the tip of his tongue, pulling him into a huge dream.

William admitted that he was just curious at first because of the chefs' surrounding him, but when he got closer and clearly smelled the smell coming from the tray, curiosity turned into chains that firmly bound his legs.

Sometimes impulse is absolutely necessary.

He suddenly understood why the proud Jana Morrison came to visit in person.

Perhaps the veterinary profession of this person does have some convincing possibilities, but more...

"I'm sorry," William took off his gold-rimmed glasses and rubbed his nose with a handkerchief. "Please understand that as an elderly man, I haven't felt this happy in a long time."

Watching all this, Spencer's glasses bulged and his cough almost sounded like a broken bellows.

However, the two people at the table seemed to be deaf, and no one showed any intention of inviting him to the table.

Lin Weilun was also very satisfied with today's tequila. It was worth it to exchange a bottle of real fine wine for a meal.

Besides, he is leaving tomorrow, so it doesn't matter if we entertain the old man before he leaves.

When Lin Weilun thought about owning his own veterinary clinic and having all kinds of animals filling his back yard, he felt like he had become a much kinder person.

He has even made a list of his diet, oh no, the order of his medical consultations, determined to enjoy the wonderful time as a practicing veterinarian.

Perhaps he was in a good mood, so when the old man opposite asked him about his next plans, Lin Weilun answered them without hesitation.

William's fork paused.

"Go back?" The old man smiled slightly as he thought of something. "No, maybe you should stay for a few days to take another exam, an exam that will determine your future destiny."

"Lingert," the blue eyes behind the lenses curved, "I wonder if the professorship at the Veterinary College would be of interest to you?"

Although he is a rural veterinarian, Spencer said that Lingert had three full marks in his subjects, and his practical skills were much more reliable than those of the professors who supervised the exams.

Just try it, just try it, the old man thought.

It has nothing to do with food.
