101. Chapter 101 The Secret Truth

Wen Yue slowly opened his eyes, staring at the sky-blue bed curtains for a long time without coming back to his senses.

"woke up?"

He turned his head and saw Su Junyao sitting there leisurely sipping tea, with Qiuqiu sitting in a small car, kicking its legs hard beside him.

[Hehe, my third uncle had someone buy me a new toy!]

The carved wood-grained stool was a bit hard, and although Chiu Chiu found it novel, she also felt uncomfortable.

[Daddy hug!]

Su Junyao pretended not to hear her thoughts; hugging her now would damage his image.

"Chirp chirp, don't move around, Daddy has important business to attend to."

Su Junyao's main task was to interrogate Wen Yue. Su Wenqi's proposed interrogation method was too brutal, so he rejected it outright.

Should I call you Wenyue or Chunhua?

When Wen Yue took off his women's clothing, he still looked rather delicate and frail compared to ordinary men, which explains why no one had noticed that he had been dressed as a woman for so many years.

"Did you deliberately provoke the old lady on New Year's Eve so that we would run into you and get scolded?"

Now that things had come to this, Wen Yue no longer concealed anything. He nodded and admitted, "I know that Madam is kind-hearted and would have saved me at this point. I don't usually have contact with Madam in the Bamboo Garden, so only by taking this opportunity to repay Madam's kindness will things seem more natural in the future."

Su Junyao agreed.

If a maid from the bamboo grove came to their door to deliver news without any apparent reason, they would probably suspect something was amiss. However, it would seem perfectly reasonable for a maid who had been kind to them to come and spread the word.

"Why?"

"Why?" Wen Yue's eyes blazed with overwhelming hatred. He clenched his fists and slammed them on the bed. "Hahaha! Why? Naturally, it's because the Wen family and Zheng Xiulan killed my entire family of twelve. I want to use you to avenge them!"

Su Junyao gasped when he heard Wen Yue say that his entire family of twelve had been killed.

If this is true, they are incredibly bold!

Why did they kill your whole family?

“At first, I didn’t know how my parents, who worked diligently for the Zheng family, could have their entire family wiped out overnight. But four years ago, I found a clue and followed it to the capital and started working at the Marquis’s mansion. But Zheng Xiulan went crazy as soon as she saw my face, which looked seven or eight parts like my father’s.”

"So I know she's definitely involved in this!"

Wen Yue looked at Su Junyao, who was waiting for him to continue asking questions. He was overwhelmed with thoughts of the past and had no clue how to continue. He choked up and didn't know how to narrate the story.

Su Junyao tapped his fingers on the table a few times, the muffled tapping sound mirroring his current mood.

Chiu Chiu's Little Secret was puzzled when they stopped talking halfway through.

The author of this novel is so lazy; how come so many details are left unexplained? The appeal of this "feel-good" novel lies with the male and female leads, but it's giving her a real headache!

"Didn't Father say he was coming to interrogate him? Go ahead and ask, start from the beginning!"

Bring up Chiu Chiu's milk, I'll drink it while I listen!

Su Junyao: “…”

"Just start from the beginning."

My milk hasn't been served yet!

No one paid any attention to Qiuqiu; Wen Yue's thoughts had already been pulled back to that nightmare thirteen years ago...

Thirteen years ago, Wen Yue's parents both worked at Zheng Xiulan's maternal home. They were distant relatives of the Wen family, working for the former top scholar's household. They had been with the Wen family for about seven or eight years.

Wen Yue clearly remembers that during that time his father's face was very solemn, and he often sat with his mother in a daze.

But life at home was getting better and better, except that his father would come back every now and then with a strange smell.

At that time, Zheng Xiulan had already married and had children. One day, her father returned from the Qiao family with a look of relief on his face.

"With Xiao Wen dead, our family is finally free."

Wen Yue didn't understand why the master was so happy that his father had died, but who would pay their wages?

This question didn't bother him for long before his whole family moved to an unfamiliar place.

In the second month after moving, Wen Yue was already playing with the neighborhood children. He was only five or six years old at the time, a time when he was very playful.

When he returned home very late one day, he was met with the devastating news that his entire family of twelve had perished! And the one who died in his place was his cousin, who was staying at their home for a short while!

"Do you know how terrified I was when I got home and saw my parents' unseeing faces as they died?"

Wen Yue trembled all over. That scene was a nightmare that he would never forget. "I realized there were still people in the house and immediately hid in the closet. They counted twelve corpses in the house and took all the valuables, pretending it was the work of bandits. After that, I sold myself into a bandit den nearby and stayed there for five or six years before I learned that they had never come down the mountain at all."

After several twists and turns, Wen Yue finally learned from a resident near his former home that the child from that family had seen a woman enter their house. They had kept this a secret for fear of getting into trouble.

Wen Yue gave the old gambler's father a large sum of money and finally got the woman's details out of him.

"A long white dress, a jade hairpin, and a habit of constantly wiping away tears with a handkerchief. Your Highness, does this description sound familiar?"

Dressed in white with a jade hairpin, and fond of pretending to wipe away tears, she couldn't think of anyone else but Zheng Xiulan.

Wearing all white is a rare choice unless someone in the family has passed away. I don't know where Zheng Xiulan got her twisted logic from, but she has been saying since she was a child that if you want to look pretty, you should wear mourning clothes. Wearing all white looks unlucky.

Within the Great Zhou Dynasty, Zheng Xiulan is probably the only oddball who flaunts herself so openly!

After "Little Wen's" death, Zheng Xiulan's husband also passed away less than two years later. Su Junyao remembered that his mother had asked him to go to Jingzhou to bring back Zheng Xiulan and her child, who had been kicked out of her husband's family. He now felt that the death of the second young master of the Qiao family might also be suspicious!

"And then you followed me all the way to the capital and even went into the Marquis's residence to confront Zheng Xiulan?"

Wen Yue nodded heavily, his face pale. "I can't get in touch with them, so I can only go to the Marquis's residence to make further plans. The bandit leader knew I was going to the capital to seek revenge and forged an identity for me. Even so, Zheng Xiulan was still uneasy. She was so frightened by my face that she let slip that she was the one who did it."

Twelve lives were a sum that the Qiao family couldn't have accomplished with their power at the time. Only the Marquis of Wenyang could control everything, so his infiltration again was to gather evidence to wipe out the entire Marquis of Wenyang's mansion.

Su Junyao scoffed, "I didn't expect you to be so ambitious, actually wanting to send my whole family to jail. What, haven't you taken action yet because you haven't found any evidence?"

Wen Yue blushed, too ashamed to look Su Junyao in the eye. His voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzz: "The people of the Marquis's mansion are not what I thought. The old Marquis is loyal and righteous. I have not found any evidence against you."

However, the old lady, Madam Wen, often whispered to Zheng Xiulan, seemingly plotting something. He had met young Madam Wen before and thought the two sisters looked alike. He knew that he had overheard their conversation a few days ago.

"I heard Qiao Muyang say that the current old lady is Xiao Wenshi, and that your mother has already been killed by them!"

Feeling guilty, Wen Yue glanced at Su Junyao and immediately lowered his head. "My father was the one who guarded your mother's body back then."

"Bang!"

Su Junyao kicked over a stool, grabbed Wen Yue by the collar, and half-dragged him up. "Say that again! Whose corpse are you guarding?!"
