17. Chapter 17 Stealing a Cub

Chapter 17 Stealing a Cub

The incident at the East City Horse Ranch caused quite a stir, so the academy simply gave all the uninjured students a holiday.

Su Jingwen and Su Xiucheng were brought back by Su Junyao a day in advance. Now they were heading to the study with sad faces, holding the homework brought back by the servant.

"Brother, what are we going to do with so much homework? At the academy, we could copy each other's work with Xue Zheng and the others, but what are we going to do now!"

Su Jingwen looked around and glared at his brother. "Nonsense! What do you mean by plagiarism? We were just having a friendly academic exchange!"

Su Xiucheng was taken aback for a moment, then realized what he meant and gave his third brother a thumbs up, sincerely praising, "Brother, you really know how to talk!"

What will they say?

Su Junyao came out from the corner, frightening the two brothers so much that they felt a chill on their backs and straightened their backs, "Dad!"

"Hmm. Are these the lessons you need to learn at home these days?"

"Yes, we have a lot of homework. Let's go to the study first."

"Come back!" Su Junyao called to the two brothers who were about to run away. "Go to my study. I'll check your homework myself later."

Su Junyao had something else to do, so he gave a few instructions and left, not caring about the life or death of his two sons at all.

The two brothers exchanged a glance. "Dad must have heard our conversation just now."

In fact, Su Junyao was in a hurry to go out and didn't pay attention to what the two of them were whispering. He just went to see Jiujiu before going out. The little guy kept muttering that he was the smartest person in the family.

Thinking that his two sons were indeed not as hardworking as their two older brothers, he asked them to go to the study.

Regarding the matter of the East City Horse Farm, the King of England knelt in front of the Chaoyang Palace early in the morning and begged Your Majesty to take charge, saying that someone was deliberately trying to harm him.

His Majesty ordered Su Junyao to work with officials from the Court of Judicial Review to thoroughly investigate the case. He was in a hurry to go to the Court of Judicial Review, which conveniently avoided the Zheng mother and son who had rushed over to file a complaint.

The servants of the Marquis's mansion were used to these poor relatives who liked to come and beg for money. Zheng Xiulan and Qiao Muyang made their way to the bamboo garden without any trouble, crying all the way.

Wen was old, and although the poisoning was relatively shallow, she had lost a lot of weight. In addition, she was angry because she didn't get any benefits from Yun Jinglan.

She became even more upset when Zheng's mother and son cried.

"Why are you crying like this?"

Madam Wen favored her niece Zheng Xiulan over her own son, and even her grand-nephew Qiao Muyang was more popular with her than the proper young master of the Marquis's mansion.

Seeing Zheng Xiulan's red eyes from crying, and Qiao Muyang's humiliated expression, he immediately became anxious. "What happened? Were you bullied? I'll have the boss arrest them right now!"

Zheng Xiulan was also born into an official family. Perhaps the loss of her husband and becoming a widow changed her mood drastically. Sometimes she acted like a scoundrel, even worse than a street shrew.

She lunged at Wen and knelt on the ground, ignoring her aunt's illness and grabbing her hand as she began to wail, "Aunt, the one who bullied me is my older cousin!"

"It's outrageous! They only know how to bully a widow and her orphan like us!" Zheng Xiulan said, secretly pinching her thigh as she cried, snot bubbles coming out of her nose. "But what did Xiulan do to offend my cousin that led him to come to my door and humiliate me? My son Muyang is going to take the imperial examination in the spring. I'm fine as a woman, but what will happen to my poor son!"

As soon as Zheng Xiulan finished speaking, Qiao Muyang threw his clothes and knelt in front of Wen. Compared to Zheng Xiulan's unreasonable behavior, Qiao Muyang seemed much more restrained.

"Aunt grandmother, it is Mu Yang who is useless and cannot support Mother. Mu Yang is poor but also has dignity. I have already agreed to help my classmates copy ancient books to earn money. Please don't send money to my family anymore."

Qiao Muyang wiped away non-existent tears but took the opportunity to rub his eyes until they were red, putting on a stubborn look that suggested he would rather die than submit: "So that others won't look down on me!"

After saying that, he pulled Zheng Xiulan, who was still crying, and was about to leave.

The mother and son were acting like a double act; after listening for a long time, Wen still couldn't figure out the reason. Seeing them about to leave, she was so angry that she coughed up blood.

Zheng Xiulan was looking up to let her aunt see her pitiful appearance, but blood sprayed all over her face, and she was scared out of her wits.

"Ahhh!"

"Help! My aunt is dying!"

Hearing Zheng Xiulan cursing her like that, Wen's eyes rolled back and she fainted.

Hearing the commotion inside, the maidservant outside pushed open the door and saw her master lying on the bed, vomiting blood and seemingly lifeless. Terrified, her legs trembled, and she scrambled out to beg for help.

"Something happened, go call a doctor!"

"The old lady was so angry that she vomited blood!"

Su Junyao returned shortly after leaving home, accompanied by several officials from the Court of Judicial Review dressed in official robes.

My two sons witnessed the horse being startled at the East City Horse Ranch yesterday. It was only after they reminded the students that they did not ride the horse. Logically, the people from the Dali Temple should come to my door to inquire about the matter.

As soon as they entered the mansion, the Su family twins had not yet appeared when they heard the servants come to report that something had happened in Zhuyuan.

After listening carefully to the report from his servant, Su Junyao's face suddenly turned pale. It was this Zheng Xiulan again!

Upon seeing this, Minister He of the Court of Judicial Review bowed and said, "If the young master has urgent matters to attend to, he may do so first. We are only asking your son a few questions, which will not take up much time."

Helpless, Su Junyao had no choice but to leave Chen He in the reception hall while he went to the bamboo garden.

Su Jingwen and Su Xiucheng were struggling with their studies and were so anxious that they were about to pinch their thighs when they suddenly heard from the servants that they didn't need to study anymore.

But the bad news was that people from the Dali Temple wanted to see them.

Su Xiucheng was incredulous: "Now copying each other's homework requires a call to the Dali Temple?"

Su Jingwen slammed his brother's head with disgust, "Stupid! The Dali Temple doesn't care about little brats. I guess we've encountered some big case."

"What should we do? Are they going to take us back for questioning?"

Su Jingwen thought for a moment, "We're unlucky, let's find someone lucky!"

Su Xiucheng's eyes lit up, and he followed his brother and sneaked all the way to his mother's yard.

The incident of Wen Shi vomiting blood in anger had caused quite a stir. Although Yun Jinglan was unable to leave her home due to confinement, she still sent someone to visit her. She had been frightened the previous night and hadn't slept well the whole night. Now she dismissed the servants and went to sleep in the room for a while.

Jiujiu is very well behaved. She never cries or makes a fuss when she is alone. As little fish, she can lie still in the water for a long time.

Suddenly, she heard a slight sound beside her ears, and she placed her little fists on both sides of her head, looking as if she was facing a great enemy.

【What's wrong? Did someone steal the baby?】

Suddenly, two familiar faces appeared in Jiujiu's sight, and she closed her eyes in pain.

So scary!

She thought her two older brothers had come to play with her, so she waved her paws and was about to whistle a greeting in her mind when suddenly everything went black and she was wrapped up tightly in a blanket.

Before she could move, her limp body was held in her brother's arms again in an unfamiliar manner, and then she was wrapped tightly in layer upon layer of quilts.

Everything in front of her was dark, and Jiujiu could only feel her two brothers leading her forward.

That's not slow at all!

Chiu Chiu was horrified: [Oh no! My brother really came to steal the cub!]

[Mom, wake up! Chirp chirp is in danger!]
