Chapter 102 Are you angry?

Wen Mo rested his chin on his hand, seemingly oblivious to the cold wind blowing past his ears, and simply kept his head down in deep thought.

He came up with a gift that was both practical and reflected his feelings.

But... isn't the gift a bit too old-fashioned? Many comics and novels have written about this.

Shaking his head, Wenmo stopped thinking about the problem. Since he thought the gift was feasible, then it was the one.

The only saving grace is that there is still enough time to prepare, as Xia Lian's birthday is about ten days away.

On the way home, Wenmo was in a much better mood. They walked hand in hand, humming a song, and occasionally kicking a stone on the side of the road.

Xia Lian turned her head, a hint of confusion flashing in her innocent eyes. She didn't quite understand what was wrong with Wen Mo.

"Wenmo, are you happy?"

"Hmm?" Wen Mo stopped humming and smiled casually. "Yeah, I'm pretty happy right now."

It's not that celebrating a birthday is that difficult, but this is the first time Wen Mo has celebrated Xia Lian's birthday, so the importance he attaches to it is self-evident.

In addition, after so many days and living together for so long, it's impossible for them not to have any feelings for each other. Feelings, once they accumulate slowly, will unconsciously form an unbreakable bond.

For example, two people might inexplicably care about each other, but they can't quite explain why.

However, there's one thing Wenmo is quite curious about... does this girl know that it's her birthday after she finds out?

Wen Mo thought for a few seconds, then felt it was too pretentious and decided to ask directly. So he coughed twice and asked casually, "Oh, by the way, Xiao Lian, I want to ask you something."

"Um?"

Xia Lian turned her head in confusion and met Wen Mo's gaze.

Meeting her questioning gaze, Wen Mo scratched his face. "Do you know what day it is in a few days?"

"What, the date?" Xia Lian was stunned for a moment, holding his large hand in hers and pondering for a while. After a moment, she suddenly raised her head and said, "It's National Day in a few days."

"..."

"No, is that not right?" Xia Lian was a little confused.

“That’s true. National Day is just a few days away, which is indeed a very important day.” Wen Mo forced a smile and continued, going along with her words.

Xia Lian's birthday is after the seven-day National Day holiday, which is almost the same as the birthday of the motherland. That is to say, Xia Lian's birthday will be around mid-October.

Despite all this probing, the girl still didn't realize that her birthday was coming soon.

However, this should be considered good news. At least if things continue this way, Wenmo will be able to give her a surprise, since she has no idea anyway.

Having a better understanding of the situation, Wen Mo naturally exhaled and kicked a pebble on the roadside. The pebble rolled a few times and fell into the river, creating ripples.

In the evening after school, the temperature was chilly after the rain, and gusts of cold wind occasionally blew into the back of Wenmo's collar, making him shiver a little.

Apart from their clasped hands, no part of their bodies was warm.

"Are you cold?" Wen Mo turned his head and asked. Xia Lian's palms weren't very warm.

The girl's earlobes were red from the cold, and her already fair skin was given a cool tone, highlighting the contrast.

"Cold," she uttered crisply.

Wen Mo glanced at Xia Lian's fair neck and carefully pulled her collar up a little.

"You won't feel cold in a few days."

He smiled and clarified his goal.

...

The atmosphere at home was the same as usual, but it also seemed a little different.

Wen Mo leaned against the doorframe of his room and patted Xia Lian's head earnestly, "I have something very important to do in my room, so you absolutely can't come in later! You can come in when it's almost bedtime."

After saying that, he turned and went into the room, poking his head out to remind him again, "Don't come in, remember that."

As soon as he finished speaking, the door closed with a click.

Outside the door, the girl blinked her big eyes, lost in thought.

This has been the case for the past few days. What used to be a time for sweet nothings after meals has turned into time alone for the two of us.

Every time after dinner, Wenmo would enter the room early and give the exact same instructions, nothing more than "Don't come in."

Looking at the tightly closed door, the girl felt a pang of disappointment. She lowered her head pitifully and stood in front of the door in a daze.

She was very obedient. After Wenmo gave her instructions, she never entered Wenmo's room except when she was sleeping.

"Wenmo..."

Xia Lian silently uttered a sentence, her dejected tone making people feel inexplicably sad.

She didn't linger at the door for long, because she knew she couldn't go in unless it was bedtime.

This has been the case for the past few days.

Xia Lian returned to her room dejectedly, sat on the edge of the bed, her small feet swinging back and forth, her already dim eyes becoming even more gloomy.

Even though they were only separated by a wall, she longed to see Wenmo.

Shaking her head, Xia Lian stopped thinking about sad things and took out her phone to try and distract herself, but she didn't know how.

She doesn't like watching videos or playing games, and rarely takes out her phone except to make payments or contact others.

Staring blankly at the off screen for a while, Xia Lian put her phone aside and lay flat on the bed. Her lifeless eyes had no focus, and her unfocused gaze seemed to be staring at the white ceiling.
