Chapter 104 Happy Birthday

Wen Mo wasn't that stupid; he could see the dejection on Xia Lian's face, which was something he couldn't bear. So Wen Mo decided to bring the matter to class, and the two of them continued to be affectionate as usual after returning home.

Xia Lian recovered her mood incredibly quickly, and that very night she was willing to talk to Wen Mo normally again, and even hugged him a little tighter.

After that, because of his grades, the teacher didn't say anything to Wen Mo, but the people around him looked at him a little strangely.

Xia Lian's birthday arrived as scheduled in mid-October.

Although he had prepared himself mentally, when the day actually arrived, Wenmo still couldn't help but feel nervous.

Our little birthday boy, as always, held hands and chatted casually with Wenmo on the way home, showing no signs of change.

I strolled back home, and it was already evening. Due to the changing seasons and the shorter days and longer nights, it gets dark very quickly now; it was already slightly dark at just past five o'clock.

"I'll cook. You sit on the sofa for a while."

Wenmo rolled up his sleeves and said that he had bought an unusually large amount of groceries today. He had to have a big meal for his birthday, and he planned to cook a huge table of dishes. It didn't matter if they could finish them all; if they couldn't, they could just put them in the refrigerator.

Although she told the girl to rest on the sofa for a while, Wen Mo knew she definitely wouldn't sit there obediently.

As always, she snuggled up to him to help out. No matter how you looked at it, the atmosphere was no different from usual, and her expression was as natural as ever.

Hmm... You can't feel any birthday atmosphere from the person involved at all. That calmness is definitely not an act. Xia Lian probably forgot that today is her birthday.

It wasn't until the dishes were poured out of the pot that Xia Lian realized something was wrong. Had she made too many dishes today?

Even so, she didn't ask any questions, assuming that Wen Mo was just hungry today.

"Let's eat first." After all the food was cooked, Wen Mo washed his hands, dried them, and pulled Xia Lian to sit down at the table.

The conversation at the dinner table was quite ordinary; they answered each question in turn, and the meal was eaten as usual.

Wen Mo was a little nervous, but he didn't know why he was nervous. It wasn't until he finished dinner and put down his chopsticks that he patted his chest and took a deep breath.

"Wait a minute, wait for me, I'll be right back." Halfway through dinner, he put down his chopsticks and made an excuse to leave his seat.

I tried hard to recall how my parents usually celebrated my birthday, rehearsing the whole process in my mind.

The custom-made birthday cake from the cake shop had been ready for a while. Wenmo paid for it in advance at noon today and brought it home. The packaging was a large, square box with pink ribbons for decoration.

He hid the cake in the room beforehand, not understanding the meaning behind it, but he felt that it was better to keep it mysterious.

It wasn't until Xia Lian saw Wen Mo walk out of the room again that she noticed he was carrying a large box.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." Wen Mo smiled and carefully placed the box on the dining table, making sure to leave a space for the cake box when setting the plates.

Xia Lian raised her head and stared blankly, seemingly still a little dazed.

Wen Mo turned his face away, trying to organize what he was going to say next, but after thinking for a long time he couldn't come up with anything useful. He decided it was better to just get along naturally as usual.

I was originally planning to bring out the cake and sing the birthday song, but that felt so awkward... Just thinking about that scene makes me cringe, like I'm digging my toes into the floor.

Looking back at Xia Lian's face, her expression was still somewhat puzzled. It seemed that even at this point, she still didn't understand what the current situation meant.

"Can't you act a little happier? There's cake to eat." Wen Mo smiled, patted her head, and reached out to open the cake box.

The white strawberry cream cake was suddenly revealed. It was about the size of a washbasin, with the cream patterns drawn skillfully and a ring of strawberries inserted on top.

"Is it Wenmo's birthday today?" she asked, looking at the cake with a hint of confusion.

"It's your birthday."

"Wenmo and I share the same birthday?"

"It's your birthday today!" Wen Mo said speechlessly, pointing to the super eye-catching birthday message on the cake.

Happy birthday, Xia Lian! May your life be filled with happiness from now on.

This blessing wasn't copied from the internet; it was a genuine blessing from Wenmo's heart.

Xia Lian has already endured a series of heartbreaks, and from now on, Wen Mo only hopes that she can find happiness and stay happy forever.

"Today is my birthday." Xia Lian's eyes flickered slightly as she repeated the sentence.

"The cake's been out for ages, and you finally noticed?" Wen Mo nodded, half-laughing and half-crying, and pushed the cake aside a little.

Xia Lian stared at the white cake, her calm expression revealing nothing of her thoughts; she simply gazed at it intently.

"How did Wen Mo know that?"

“Do you remember when we went home before? Your uncle gave us your ID card and household registration book, and it was all written clearly on them.”

Having memorized the birthday celebration routine perfectly, Wen Mo stopped chatting and coughed twice before clapping his hands to signal Xia Lian to look over.

"Alright, let's continue. The process isn't finished yet." He chuckled and ruffled Xia Lian's hair.

Wen Mo carefully inserted the candles one by one, taking out the ones he had prepared in advance, until he had almost filled a circle. He had just used up all the small candles in his hand, and the number of candles he bought was the same as Xia Lian's age.

With the lighter tucked in his hand, he carefully lit each one. By the time Xia Lian looked up, Wen Mo had already reached the overhead light switch. "Ready? I'm turning off the light now."

Xia Lian wasn't surprised, probably because she had celebrated her birthday before. She simply nodded, and the next second, the living room went dark.

The faint candlelight illuminated their faces, casting a glow on the snow-white walls. Xia Lian sat obediently in her seat, the atmosphere giving her an indescribable feeling.

"Next, it seems like it's time to make a wish. Come on, come closer."

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian obediently moved closer. The candlelight reflected in her eyes, adding a touch of gentleness to her already lovely face. Her silent eyes revealed no emotion, only that Wen Mo was watching her with a grin beside her.

The line of text above was very eye-catching; she just stared at it blankly, her heart inexplicably racing.

Happy birthday, Xia Lian! May your life be filled with happiness from now on.

Xia Lian didn't know what was happening to her; she only felt something tug at her heart, a warm and gentle feeling that she couldn't describe.

Wenmo sat beside her, nuzzling her shoulder and patting her head with a gentle smile.

Happy birthday, Xiao Lian.
