Chapter 124 Only You

The atmosphere in the living room was quiet. Wen Mo remained seated, his hands behind his head, leaning against the sofa and looking up at the clean white ceiling.

My cousin's mood is off.

As for the reason, it's obvious to anyone.

The pink love letter on the table stood out against the pure black glass surface, making it hard to miss.

Compared to her expressionless and blank demeanor, Xia Lian is more oblivious than others, and occasionally quite perceptive.

"Seriously, why do so many things always pile up and fall on me..." Wen Mo complained, reaching out to clutch the love letter in his hand.

Ever since realizing that his feelings were different from others, he has subconsciously become more cautious in his interactions with Xia Lian.

They even hold hands less often than before.

Perhaps realizing his true feelings, every time he held her hand, the identities of his cousin and his lover kept swirling in his mind, and he always felt a strange feeling nagging at him.

From that time on, Wenmer noticed that his first love might be much more troublesome than that of ordinary people.

Wen Mo was unaware of Xia Lian's inner thoughts. This love letter incident may have stimulated her, causing the distance between them to fluctuate.

Of course, I've already thought of a reply to the love letter.

Rather than saying I had already thought it through from the beginning, I just had to tell her in person tomorrow. I always felt that it would be more difficult to deal with someone who wrote a letter, so I wanted to avoid any unforeseen complications.

Reaching out to place the love letter back on the table, Wen Mo slowly stood up, patted his slightly numb bottom, hesitated for a few seconds, and then tiptoed to his cousin's door.

"Um...may I come in?"

He was a little nervous, but he didn't understand why he was so nervous. It wasn't the first time he had entered his cousin's room. After swallowing hard, he raised his hand and gently knocked on the door.

There was no response from inside.

"Asleep? So quickly?"

After knocking twice more, assuming Xia Lian was already asleep, Wen Mo was about to turn and leave when he suddenly heard a "click" of the door opening behind him.

"You weren't asleep?" Wen Mo turned around awkwardly.

Xia Lian had changed into pajamas at some point. The loose, soft fabric clung to her body, revealing half of her shoulder. Her face was expressionless, and her lifeless eyes were raised as she looked at her cousin in front of her.

"I have something I want to tell you." Wen Mo cleared his throat and got straight to the point. He glanced at Xia Lian's listless appearance and reached out to help pull her clothes back onto her shoulders.

Suddenly, he felt that this was a bit indecent, and for some reason wanted to pull his hand back, but seeing that she didn't react, he could only bite the bullet and continue to help her tidy up the clothes.

"The love letter... thing?"

Xia Lian lowered her eyes listlessly, her already empty eyes now even more dim and lifeless.

"Don't be so listless. Our little black cat is much more energetic than you today." Wen Mo comforted him, pointing to the little black cat's bed, where it was quietly watching the two humans put on their emotional show.

"I don't."

"You haven't done it yet, and you're practically drooping with embarrassment." Wen Mo rubbed his hands together behind his back. "Let's go inside and talk."

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian nodded, reached out and pulled his sleeve, and the two of them sat down on the edge of the bed at the same time.

Wen Mo looked up and glanced around. Since he helped decorate, the atmosphere in the room had become much more pleasing to the eye.

Last time I went into her room, I thought she wouldn't smell like a girl, but this time, I could smell a faint fragrance within two seconds of entering the room.

Xia Lian's pajamas were very thin, and there was a little distance between the two of them. Perhaps she wanted to take a nap, because the girl's big ponytail at the back of her head had been untied, and her long, smooth hair cascaded down like a waterfall.

The already somber atmosphere became even more silent. Neither of them spoke first. Wen Mo subconsciously gripped the blanket on the bed, trying to organize what he was about to say.

About half a minute later, he took a deep breath, raised his eyes, and stared straight at them.

"I……"

“Wen Mo is very handsome... so it’s normal for him to receive love letters.”

Just as Wen Mo was about to speak, Xia Lian suddenly interrupted him, uttering a sentence that was difficult to understand, while her slender white fingers twisted together beneath her.

Ever since she learned the meaning of the letter, her spirits have become visibly gloomy.

Yes, my cousin is very handsome and charming.

I knew this all along.

But unfortunately... he doesn't want others to notice his charm.

"Is this a compliment? Thanks..." Wen Mo chuckled awkwardly. The words had completely interrupted his train of thought, and he could only try to organize his next explanation.

Will there be one more person by Wenmo's side from now on?

"well?"

Wenmo was stunned, not understanding why she would think that way.

Xia Lian lowered her eyes, a few strands of hair slipping down her shoulder, her tone tinged with obvious disappointment, "Wen Mo said that writing love letters... meant being together..."

"..."

Wen Mo didn't say anything, already realizing that she had misunderstood something. So this girl thought that writing a love letter would guarantee success?

"...No, no, no, you're overthinking it."

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian raised her head and moved her face closer to him, so close that there was no sense of distance between them. Her voice was slow and soft as she said, "Isn't that right?"

The sight of Xia Lian's face, which he hadn't seen in so long, made Wen Mo's heart skip a beat, but he quickly recovered and gently stroked her face.

"No, listen to me, I had already thought of my reply to the other person a long time ago, or rather, I had already thought it through the moment I received the love letter."

"reply?"

"It means either agreeing or refusing, which is a response to the girl's feelings."

Wen Mo took a deep breath and pulled her head into his arms, causing Xia Lian's body to lean against him, making her subconsciously reach out to support herself on the bed behind Wen Mo.

"I will refuse her properly, don't worry, there won't be any complications." Wen Mo's gentle words reached Xia Lian's ears, causing her to tremble slightly.

Finally, Wen Mo patted her back and helped Xia Lian up. His face was a little hot, probably because he was embarrassed by his bold behavior. He subconsciously turned his face away to hide the blush on his cheeks.

After a long while, he let out a long breath, gave a warm smile, and gently stroked Xia Lian's head as usual. The familiar touch made the girl dazed for a moment.

Wen Mo didn't know how to describe his feelings. Perhaps his heartbeat was clouded by a hazy feeling of love, making his breathing even a little tighter. But he didn't hesitate when he spoke; he was simply determined to tell her the answer.

"You're the only one by my side."

That's what Winmer thinks.
