Chapter 168 Marrying You

"I am not a ghost."

"I know, I know, but what you said back then was weird, and your hair was so long, I was instinctively scared," Wen Mo couldn't help but complain.

Thinking back to that afternoon, I still feel lingering fear.

A girl with long hair and a white t-shirt sat silently at her doorstep, her bangs still incredibly long. The first thing she said was, "I found you."

Anyone would be scared in that situation!

Not long after they left, the two returned to their front door.

“Look, you were sitting so close to your front door back then, wasn’t that scary?” Wen Mo pointed to that spot.

Xia Lian pursed her lips and remained silent, finally lowering her head, "I scared Wen Mo..."

"Nothing of the sort, don't overthink it. I was just saying it casually. Let's go inside." Wen Mo patted her little head and closed the door with a smile.

Sitting on the sofa and taking off their coats, both of them were too lazy to move. Xia Lian crawled to Wen Mo's side like a little animal and rested her head on his lap.

From this perspective, the originally shrewd Winmer unexpectedly appears quite silly and not very smart.

"Your bangs are all messed up. You should take care of tidying them up. I think I taught you how to style your hair." Wen Mo couldn't help but help to brush the ends of her hair until the girl's forehead was much cleaner.

"I don't know how to do it." Xia Lian shook her head.

"I think you just want me to do it for you." Wen Mo rolled his eyes, seeing right through her little scheme.

Xia Lian turned her face away guiltily, but finally nodded quietly, "Wen Mo is very smart."

"Of course."

The two chatted casually, not in a hurry to cook, since they had plenty of time.

However, Wen Mo mostly steered the conversation, while Xia Lian answered questions, until Xia Lian took the initiative to ask a more important question.

"when……"

"Huh?" Wen Mo was abruptly pulled back to reality when he heard the other person speak. "What did you say?"

"When will we be able to... hold hands in front of everyone?" Xia Lian said softly, her brows furrowing with a hint of disappointment.

She didn't like pretending to be in a relationship; rather than being secretive in front of others, she preferred to hold that large hand directly.

Wen Mo changed his position and hugged Xia Lian tightly in his arms, leaning against the back of the sofa. The two of them resembled a koala mom taking care of her baby.

"You mean you don't want to hide from others anymore, right?" Wen Mo held that small hand; the soft, boneless touch felt very comfortable.

"Hmm..." Xia Lian nodded.

"It might take a while. I need to think about how to tell people without them calling the police," Wen Mo explained half-jokingly.

Think about the people you know, how many of them actually know the truth about their relationship?

Of their parents, only their father knows that Wenmo and Wenmo are a couple.

There were even fewer friends; he only confided in Xiang Xiaonan, and no one else knew anything about it.

"The task is arduous and the road ahead is long." Wen Mo sighed softly, shook his head, and hugged Xia Lian in his arms even tighter.

"And, is it going to be a long time?"

"No, it's not far off. As long as the people around us accept our relationship, that's enough." This was Wen Mo's conclusion after careful consideration. As for whether to go back to her hometown after the New Year, she still needed to think it over again.

As Wen Yiquan said, this kind of relationship is something that can't be made public and can only be known by close relatives and friends. If relatives back home find out, they will inevitably be gossiped about behind their backs.

Wenmer rested his chin on her head, his sharp mind racing, trying to come up with a solution that would satisfy both sides.

The best outcome would be that they would never see any other relatives again, and then the two of them would secretly get their marriage certificate.

However, it will probably take some time before we can get the marriage certificate.

Rather, this kind of thinking is more in line with the fantasies a high school student should have about the future. Even though the two of them are still children and have only been dating for a week, they can already think about how to get married in the future.

"Are we...something that can't be seen by others?" Xia Lian raised her eyes, a hint of doubt showing in her clear gaze.

"Not really, but from an objective point of view... it is indeed quite shameful."

"oh."

"It's okay, if you can't be seen by others, then so be it. We just won't see anyone else," Wen Mo said with a smile, placing his hand on her lower abdomen.

Xia Lian narrowed her eyes slightly, enjoying the stroking sensation on her lower abdomen; her palms were warm and comfortable.

"I might as well not go home for the New Year. Anyway, I won't know many people there." Wen Mo muttered a couple of times. As he continued to think about it, he felt frustrated and couldn't come up with a good solution no matter how hard he tried. In the end, he slumped against Xia Lian's back like a dead fish.

"Wenmo, don't be angry."

"I'm not angry, I'm just really annoyed," Wen Mo said weakly. "After I graduate from university, I'll have to work, take over my dad's responsibilities, and support the whole family."

“I can do that too, to make money,” Xia Lian said blankly, reaching out to pinch his cheek.

"You should take care of yourself and the baby first." Wen Mo nodded with a wry smile, casually agreeing, knowing that the thought was enough.

Suddenly I realized how amazing my dad is; he's able to support the family like a pillar of strength.

If you put yourself in the father's shoes, you can understand why he was so troubled. There was nothing he could have imagined that the two children would end up together.

But there's really no way around it. If you like someone, you like them. Once you're already together, you can't just break them up. He can't bring himself to do that.

Ultimately, I'm actually quite grateful to my own father.

"Can't I work?" Xia Lian lowered her eyes, her expression somewhat disappointed.

"...I haven't thought of a suitable job for you yet. Maybe you can find a major that interests you in college and then look for a job in that direction."

“I want to go to university with Wen Mo,” Xia Lian said, making loose fists with both hands and gently punching Wen Mo’s thigh.

"That depends on whether you can keep up with me," Wen Mo said with a light laugh.

It's not that he's bragging, but being number one in the whole school isn't easy; you always have to be wary of the guys below you pushing you down.

"Who knows, I might leave them far behind someday," Wen Mo said with amusement, shrugging helplessly.

"Wen Mo, don't leave me..." Xia Lian looked at him pitifully, seemingly aggrieved.

"I was just kidding, don't take it seriously, you idiot."

Wen Mo coughed lightly twice, not taking it seriously.

Even after the movie ended, neither of them had quite grasped the moment; they were still lost in their daydreams about the future, each hoping for a wonderful life.

"Will we get married?" Xia Lian raised her eyes, her innocent gaze revealing no impurities, only clarity.

"Yes, I will marry you. Then you won't be able to run away from me."
