The girl's expression remained unchanged; she simply repeated a sentence with her mouth open, her gaze never leaving Wen Mo.
"..."
"..."
The two looked at each other, neither intending to speak, and the atmosphere grew cold.
Soon, Wen Mo scratched his head as he looked at her unfamiliar face and broke the silence, "You know me? But I've never seen you before, I don't remember you at all..."
Wenmo leaned against the wall, his gaze wandering over the girl and the suitcase next to her.
Why bring a suitcase when you go out?
It seems like some little girl has run away from home.
Judging from her reaction, she probably wasn't a guest of the neighbor.
Upon hearing this, the girl stared at him with her lifeless eyes for a long while, then silently lowered her head, as if she had withered away.
Wen Mo shook the water droplets off the water bottle. In a few more minutes, the ice water would probably be at room temperature. "Take this water and drink it. Since you said you know me, let's go inside and talk slowly. It's too hot to talk in the hallway."
Actually, he didn't believe the girl was someone he knew; he just wanted to get inside and enjoy the air conditioning. He probably had bad eyesight and mistook her for someone else.
The girl listened, obediently took the water from Wen Mo's hand, watched him take out his key and open the door again, and silently followed behind him with her suitcase.
"Put your suitcase there and I'll get it. I'll get you a towel to wipe your sweat in a bit. You can sit on the sofa over there and rest for a while."
Wen Mo casually took the suitcase from her hand and placed it in a corner of the living room.
The suitcase was very light; it could be easily lifted with one hand, so it didn't seem to contain much.
Turning around, I was about to speak when I realized that the other person had obediently sat on the sofa, with her hands flat on her thighs and her eyes looking at the floor properly, or maybe just at her own toes.
Looking at her unusually calm expression, Wen Mo couldn't help but marvel.
Does someone enter a stranger's home without any sense of caution? They didn't look around, and haven't even reacted at all since entering.
"Take these to wipe your sweat." Wen Mo handed over two light-colored towels. "They're disposable. Just throw them in the trash after you're done."
The girl took the towel and nodded blankly.
Wen Mo, on the other hand, sat with his legs crossed at the other end of the sofa, glancing at the girl beside him with every now and then.
The girl's hair was damp with fine sweat. She first gently and carefully wiped her cheeks and fair neck, then let her single ponytail fall loose, her long hair cascading down her back. After doing this, she didn't do anything else, but just quietly looked at Wen Mo beside her.
"Huh?" Wen Mo was taken aback. Why was she suddenly looking at him? "What's wrong?"
The girl stared at him blankly for a long time without saying a word, only lowering her head slightly and calmly clutching the towel in her hand.
"I want to wipe... inside my clothes."
Wen Mo blinked, then realized what was happening. He awkwardly scratched his cheek and quickly looked away.
"Oh, I understand, I understand."
He then pointed to the door of the room, indicating that the girl should go to that room to wipe her sweat, "That's my room, go there to wipe."
Without hesitation, the girl nodded slightly to Wen Mo, walked to the room, gently pushed open the door, and went inside.
"...Close the door before wiping."
Wen Mo added helplessly.
A few seconds later, a creaking sound came from the doorway, and the door slowly closed.
Hearing the sounds inside disappear, Wen Mo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"What kind of mess is this...?"
He sat up straight on the sofa, stretched languidly, and watched the girl's disappearing figure with a sense of helplessness in his heart.
I don't know what to do with her now. What if she really ran away from home? Should I call the police? Uncle Hat should be able to take her home.
But since they've already run away from home, they probably don't really want to go back.
And another thing... this girl is really quite strange.
I haven't seen her show any other expression since we met. Her features are like nails to her face; if you didn't know better, you'd think there was something wrong with her face.
He always speaks slowly, and it takes a long time for him to reply after asking a question.
Wenmo pulled his phone out of his pocket, looked at the emergency SOS screen, and hesitated whether to call the police now to send her home.
God knows whether good intentions might lead to bad results.
If it's just about letting her stay at your house for a while, that's not necessarily a bad thing... Maybe she'll get tired of it and want to go home. But if something happens, you'll be the one who suffers.
Just as Wen Mo was hesitating, his phone vibrated—a video call had come in, and it was from someone he knew.
"Tsk, of all times, they had to call at this time..." Wen Mo complained.
Looking at the familiar contact name, he deliberately left the other end waiting for a few seconds before slowly answering the video call, "Dad, just say what's on your mind."
"Is that how you talk to your father?"
A slightly disgruntled middle-aged man's voice came from the other end of the video call. Wen Yiquan snorted and pretended to be very angry.
"Alright, alright." Wen Mo frowned and waved his hand. "I'm too lazy to play games with you. I'm busy right now. Just say what you need to say."
He was still troubled by the girl's situation.
Wen Yiquan sat leisurely in his office chair, sipping tea. He wasn't in a hurry to speak, but instead took a photo out of his desk drawer and intentionally or unintentionally let Wen Mo on the other side of the video call see it.
