Chapter 58 How is that possible?

He didn't know what kind of liking Xia Lian meant by "liking" him, but it was most likely unrelated to romance. It was probably just a sense of dependence, a feeling of security when he was by Xia Lian's side.

"Different?" Xia Lian asked, tilting her head slightly, her pretty face revealing a hint of confusion.

"Yes, they are different."

Wen Mo pursed his lips, his expression somewhat helpless.

I never expected that watching a movie would lead to so many things, even bringing up marriage, but it certainly achieved his goal.

Wen Mo wanted to enrich the girl's life to make up for the previous emptiness. Now it seems that although the topic has gone in a strange direction, it has indeed become much richer.

You can also talk to her about this, since it's something she hasn't experienced before.

"You just said you like me, right?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian nodded obediently.

"Do you like anything else, or anyone else? Give me an example." Wen Mo asked patiently, like an older brother coaxing a child.

"I like...I like my mom."

Upon hearing this, Wen Mo made the final decision, clapping his hands happily, "That's right! This is what it means to like someone in the same way."

Xia Lian looked somewhat bewildered, but still tried her best to listen.

"This isn't romantic love; it's just a simple feeling of affection for someone. In other words, it's just a sense of dependence, just like how you feel about your mother—you always want to be closer to her."

He tried his best to prove that the feelings between the two were due to other factors, and not what is known as love.

Given their respective identities and the fact that they had only known each other for a little over twenty days, Wen Mo couldn't even imagine that Xia Lian would fall in love with him.

This is so strange.

Little did they know that their current actions were simply making excuses for themselves.

But if we attribute all of this to dependence, then everything makes sense, including why Xia Lian likes to stick to him so much.

For example, if you chat with someone on a screen for a month, you'll feel empty when you stop talking to them on the 31st day.

He pretended to be an expert to encourage himself, even though he knew perfectly well that he was a complete novice when it came to love, having never been involved with the word "love" since childhood.

"You don't need to force yourself to understand. You just need to know that what you're doing is normal." After saying this, Wen Mo finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"..."

It's unclear when it started, but Xia Lian stopped speaking, her eyes fixed on Wen Mo, who was frantically explaining, while she held a cushion on the sofa in her arms.

"Do you understand now, even a little?"

Wenmo leaned closer and spoke cautiously.

Xia Lian raised her eyes, reached out and tugged at his clothes, her expression still as blank as before, revealing no emotion.

After hesitating for a few seconds, she seemed to realize something, and parted her teeth slightly, "No, love...?"

Wen Mo was silent for a few seconds. "If you don't believe me, I'll prove it to you." As he spoke, he reached out his right hand, which he always used, and took Xia Lian's small hand in his.

The girl didn't react at all, letting him hold her hand without a ripple on her face, her eyes looking at him strangely.

"Did you feel anything?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian paused, closed her eyes, and tried to sense something. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes, looked at the two people's tightly clasped hands, and said nothing.

It was just like holding hands in a very ordinary way.

"See? We don't feel anything at all." Wen Mo smiled and slowly loosened his grip on her hands.

He stood up, stroked Xia Lian's head, and said gently, "You will come to like many more things in the future, such as comics, music, and many, many new things. You will be exposed to them, and then you may be able to understand the difference between liking someone in love and liking someone in ordinary life."

Feeling the warmth on her head, Xia Lian didn't look up, her slender white fingers intertwined.

After a while, she slightly raised her eyes and added softly, "And Wen Mo... I like Wen Mo..."

Wen Mo's lips trembled slightly; all his previous explanations had been for nothing.

He sighed softly, scratched his head, and said helplessly, "Alright then, maybe you'll understand in the future."

Will Wenmo... stay with me?

"Of course I'll stay with you. I won't go anywhere, don't worry."

Like getting married?

"It has nothing to do with marriage, stop thinking about marriage." Wen Mo tapped Xia Lian's forehead. "I just simply won't leave you."

After he finished speaking, the two of them fell silent.

A few minutes later, Wen Mo managed a smile and pulled her up. "Go take a shower first. It's okay if we stay up a little longer tonight, since we don't have class tomorrow anyway."

He pushed Xia Lian by the back and led her to the room, saying, "I'll cook dinner tonight, so you have to eat a lot."

After saying that, Wen Mo smiled, feigning ease.

Although she felt a little strange, Xia Lian didn't ask any questions. She obediently nodded her head and searched for her change of clothes in the room.

Only when they heard the sound of running water in the bathroom could they calm down for a while.

In the bathroom, Xia Lian silently looked at herself in the mirror, then stretched out the hand that Wen Mo had been holding tightly, and lowered her head without saying a word.

She didn't speak, but simply placed her hand on her chest and closed her eyes tightly. At that moment, even the loudest sound of the rushing water couldn't drown out her pounding heartbeat.

...

In the living room.

Wenmo held his forehead, looking helpless.
