Chapter 76 I Don't Dislike

I got home at exactly 6 o'clock.

Wen Mo plopped down on the sofa and patted the spot next to him, gesturing for Xia Lian to sit down as well.

Compared to when she was at school, Xia Lian seemed to be a bit more talkative now, but she still stumbled over her words. Fortunately, Wen Mo was already used to her way of speaking.

"Where did you guys go for lunch?" Wen Mo asked casually.

“I don’t know.” Xia Lian shook her head. “But there are a lot of things inside, it seems to be called… buffet.”

"Going to a buffet during lunch break?"

Wen Mo was a little surprised, but after thinking about it carefully, he guessed it was Yin Tao who had suggested it again. It was not surprising no matter what she did.

As he was pondering, his clothes were gently tugged. He looked down and met the girl's clear, large eyes.

"I listened to Wen Mo and treated everyone." Xia Lian said softly, her tone like that of a child seeking praise, looking over expectantly.

Wenmo paused for a moment, then smiled gently and patted her head as a reward, "That's great! Next time, you can each pay your own way. That's how friends should interact."

This girl has one very obvious advantage: she is extremely obedient. No matter what I say, she will nod and do it even if she doesn't understand the reasoning behind it.

But she'll listen to anything I say...

Wen Mo stole a glance at Xia Lian beside him, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Hmm...?" Xia Lian raised her head and asked with some confusion, "Wen Mo, what are you looking at?"

"Oh, it's nothing, I was just spacing out."

Wen Mo quickly looked away, pretending nothing had happened, and the strange thoughts in his mind were instantly cleared away.

Xia Lian stared blankly, not feeling anything was wrong. On the contrary, being glanced at by Wen Mo made her very happy. As her mood changed, the long ponytail at the back of her head began to sway from side to side.

She's kind of cute.

Seeing Xia Lian's reaction, Wen Mo stroked his chin and pondered for a long time. This obedient personality might cause her trouble in the future.

For example, if some students are not discerning enough to see that Xia Lian looks a bit dull and silly, they might want to bully her and leave her to do everything.

Xia Lian herself is quite naive, and probably agreed without much consideration.

Hmm...maybe I should give her a heads-up beforehand.

You shouldn't listen to everything you hear; you should actively distinguish between good and bad words.

Thinking of this, he coughed lightly twice.

"Xiao Lian, I have something important to tell you."

"Hmm?" Xia Lian raised her eyes.

"Actually, you don't have to listen to me on everything. You can have your own opinions and ideas, and you can bring them up."

Wen Mo spoke earnestly, glancing furtively at her reaction. Seeing that she still had no expression, he paused for a few seconds before continuing.

"For example, if I say something wrong, you can correct me immediately. There's no need to follow other people's arrangements in everything. We can also live according to our own ideas."

Xia Lian placed her hands on her lap, listening with a dazed expression.

"If someone else's arrangement makes you feel uncomfortable, you can bring it up or simply say that you don't want to do it."

After speaking, Wen Mo composed himself and cautiously asked, "Um, did you understand?"

The amount of information in those words was quite large, and Xia Lian was stunned for a while before she absorbed it all. After thinking for a while, she raised her eyes to look at Wen Mo and nodded seriously.

"I understand."

"That's good." Wen Mo happily agreed, "Then from now on you will..."

"From now on, I will only listen to Wen Mo," Xia Lian said earnestly.

"..."

I understand now.

"That's not what I meant! I meant that you don't have to listen to what other people say."

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian tilted her head slightly in confusion, "But Wen Mo is not just anyone, he is an important person."

"I..." Wen Mo hesitated, seemingly unsure how to explain, her two sentences completely shutting down what she had just said.

After much deliberation, Wen Mo came up with a solution. The next second, he stopped smiling and his expression became slightly serious.

"You, stand up."

Xia Lian was a little confused by the harsh tone, but she still obediently stood up.

"Spin around."

Xia Lian blinked and spun around in place.

"Jump a few times in place."

Without any hesitation, as soon as Wen Mo finished speaking, she jumped up and down several times, seemingly still wanting more, finding it very fun.

Seeing this, Wen Mo leaned closer and whispered, "See, that's why you could have refused just now..."

"Why do you refuse?"

"...Don't you find it annoying?"

Before he could finish speaking, Xia Lian gracefully returned to the spot where she had been spinning, her ponytail swaying slightly behind her head.

“No, I don’t hate it.” She shook her head and said crisply, “I don’t hate anything Wenmo asks me to do.”

Looking at her innocent and pure face, Wen Mo grinned, then covered his face and began to question his existence.

Seeing this, Xia Lian gently squatted down, looked up at Wen Mo's expression, and patted his back. "Wen Mo, don't be sad."

Wenmo was amused by her words, and his previous frustration vanished instantly.

However, at least she realized that she doesn't necessarily have to listen to what others say; understanding some of the principles is enough, which is a good thing.

"Be discerning when others say things, especially strangers. Don't listen to what they say, no matter what they say."
