In the kitchen.
Xia Lian, dressed in pajamas, skillfully chopped onions with a kitchen knife in her small hands. The sleeves of her pajamas were rolled up to her wrists, and her still-dry hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall.
Once the onions were sliced, they were all tossed into the pan with a sizzling sound, frying up with the eggs and releasing their aroma, which could be smelled from a distance.
"The last dish is scrambled eggs with onions."
Wen Mo picked up the pot and poured the vegetables inside into a plate at an angle. Before he could speak, Xia Lian took small steps and quietly carried the dish out.
Her hair swayed behind her back, which was kind of cute.
Wen Mo put down the spatula and followed Xia Lian out, only to find that Xia Lian had already prepared the bowls and chopsticks and served two bowls of rice. She was sitting at the table like a well-behaved child.
"Good girl."
Wen Mo was quite pleased, and then sat down beside her, gently stroking Xia Lian's head.
A large, warm hand gently rubbed the top of her head. Xia Lian squinted and tilted her head back slightly, like a cat having its chin scratched, her face full of comfort. Only at the end did she slowly open her eyes.
She reached out and tugged at Wen Mo's sleeve, her emotionless voice now carrying a hint of coquetry.
"I'm very well-behaved."
Seeing Xia Lian looking at him with dazed eyes, Wen Mo didn't touch her anymore. He recalled that her hair was still a little damp, which meant that it hadn't been dried properly.
Wen Mo put down his chopsticks, but instead of eating right away, he got up and ran to his room to look for something. A few seconds later, he returned to the living room with a hairdryer in his hand.
The girl's small feet dangled under the chair as she turned to look at Wen Mo behind her, her innocent, beautiful eyes blinking. "Wen Mo...aren't you going to eat?"
"We'll eat later, let's blow-dry our hair first."
Wen Mo untangled the wires, plugged the plug into the socket next to the sofa, and waved to Xia Lian, signaling her to come over.
After pausing for a second, Xia Lian slowly walked to his side, sat down in front of Wen Mo, and stared blankly back at Wen Mo behind her.
"Why didn't you dry your hair before coming to help? Your hair is all wet."
Upon hearing this, the girl shook her head and remained silent.
"What's wrong?" Wen Mo asked, a little puzzled. He rubbed her hair, and a blast of hot air came out of the hairdryer, warming the back of the girl's head.
The girl lowered her eyes, a few strands of hair slipping down her shoulder. Her innocent expression revealed no emotion, and her tone sounded somewhat dejected, "Because of my stomach, I'm so hungry..."
Pfft.
This reason was truly unexpected, and it almost made Wen Mo burst out laughing.
"We'll eat after you're done drying your hair, don't rush," he comforted her, both amused and exasperated. He really hadn't expected this girl to complain like this sometimes. "You'll catch a cold if you don't dry your hair properly, so please don't catch a cold."
"Wen Moye, worry about yourself."
"My health is much better than yours, there's no need to worry."
The two chatted idly until they were almost finished drying their hair when Wenmo suddenly remembered that he had a very important task to ask about.
Glancing briefly at Xia Lian's face, Wen Mo coughed twice, not stopping what he was doing, and asked casually, "Oh, by the way, Xia Lian, is there anything you like?"
Just then, her hair dried, and Xia Lian slowly turned around, sitting halfway on the sofa.
"Um……?"
Seemingly a little afraid of being discovered, Wen Mo shrugged nonchalantly and wrapped the cord back around the hairdryer. "I was just asking casually."
After he finished speaking, he leaned against the back of the sofa and listened intently.
Xia Lian paused for a few seconds, then lowered her head as if deep in thought. Wen Mo, also a little curious, leaned closer.
The next second, the girl suddenly raised her head, and the two of them, nose to nose, almost made eye contact.
"I like it, Wenmo."
She tilted her head slightly and reached out to poke her cousin's chest.
The sudden close contact made Wenmo instinctively take a few steps back, clutching her chest. She felt as if her heart had skipped a beat, unsure whether it was because of her sudden approach or her usual response.
It took Wen Mo a while to realize what she meant. She waved her hand and quickly added, "I'm not asking you that, I'm asking you what you like."
Xia Lian looked puzzled upon hearing this.
"Wenmo, you're a scoundrel...?"
"..."
Does that sound like an insult?
Wen Mo sat back down at the table speechlessly, speechless, still reeling from her answer.
"It's alright, let's eat."
...
Before bed.
Wenmo rested his hands behind his head.
He had just asked her what she liked best, but the answer wasn't what he wanted. Although they had only known each other for a few dozen days, Wen Mo still took it very seriously as it was the first time he was celebrating Xia Lian's birthday.
With only about ten days left until my birthday, I still have some time to think things over.
I told Qin Zhou and the others this morning that there are still more than ten days until my birthday, but they scolded me, saying that Wen Mo is out of his mind and why is he in such a hurry when there is so much time.
As I was pondering, a petite figure appeared outside the door.
Xia Lian, as usual, took small steps to the bedside, reached out and hooked off her slippers, revealing her pink heels, and then burrowed into the covers.
Wen Mo felt her moving around in the blankets, and then a cute little head peeked out from beside him, occasionally rubbing its face against his arm.
"It's so warm..."
Xia Lian comfortably squinted her eyes and gently shook her head.
"It's time to sleep, we have class tomorrow." Wen Mo closed his eyes helplessly. Even though so much time had passed, he still wasn't used to having a girl lying next to him.
"Um."
Xia Lian lay beside him, but her eyes remained fixed on Wen Mo.
Wen Mo was about to turn off the light when he met her gaze. After a few seconds, he asked, "What's wrong?"
“I like it, Winmer.”
“…I know.” Wen Mo turned off the light, as if responding to his previous words, and laughed self-deprecatingly, “But I’m not a thing.”
The room was pitch black after the lights were turned off, with only a faint light from outside the window shining into the room, barely enough to make out the outline of the girl's face.
Wen Mo pulled the blanket tighter. He was more used to sleeping on his side, and this habit indirectly led to Xia Lian liking to snuggle in his arms, even when sleeping, she would press herself against his chest.
Smelling the fragrance of her hair so close to his, Wen Mo could feel the girl's soft breathing in his arms, which made him feel inexplicably itchy.
Several minutes later, he gradually became sleepy and slowly closed his eyes.
"Cough cough..."
A cough echoed in the quiet room, a muffled sound. Wen Mo, half-asleep, didn't hear it.
Xia Lian covered her mouth, took a few breaths, and after a while, she continued to snuggle in his arms, as if nothing had happened.
