Chapter 99 No Way

"Actually, I'm still a little scared. If I could hug you a little longer, maybe I wouldn't be so scared." Wen Mo turned his face away, not wanting her to see the blush on his cheeks.

"Um……"

Xia Lian responded softly, clasping her hands behind Wen Mo's back and burying her face in his chest. Wen Mo's heart inexplicably raced at that moment, but he suppressed those thoughts, realizing that harboring evil intentions was not good, and then hugged that petite body tightly again.

This is just them keeping each other warm; there's no other meaning behind it.

Poor Wen Mo was unsettled by the little girl's antics, but he also realized that in a more realistic situation, she was much more adorable than the heroines in novels.

"I'm not scared anymore." Wen Mo patted her back, already satisfied.

His hurt feelings were instantly soothed, and perhaps even he himself didn't expect that he was so easy to coax.

Just as the two separated, there was a "snap".

The room went dark.

The stormy night was pitch black, and people could only make out each other's faces through the faint light from the window.

"The power's out? I'll go check." Wen Mo was about to get up and check the switch when his clothes were grabbed tightly again.

In the dim light, Xia Lian could vaguely see the girl's dark eyes, and her gaze became hazy, preventing him from looking away.

Not only that, the little bit of pink that was originally only at the corner of the girl's eyes instantly spread all over her face.

A blank expression and blushing don't contradict each other; rather, they enhance her already adorable appearance. Even though there's no curve at the corners of her mouth, you can still feel her emotions.

Soon, by the time Wen Mo realized that Xia Lian's blush might be due to shyness, Xia Lian was already curled up in a ball with her eyes darting around.

"Really, aren't you scared anymore?" she asked cautiously, glancing at Wen Mo every now and then.

Wen Mo smiled and then shrugged.

"I'm not scared anymore, it's okay."

"Oh..." The girl felt disappointed and gradually loosened her grip on his clothes.

Unbeknownst to them, in the darkness, Wen Mo smiled thoughtfully and sat back down beside Xia Lian.

"Xiao Lian."

"Hmm...?" Xia Lian raised her head.

"Are you afraid of the dark?" Wen Mo asked, pretending nothing was wrong.

Xia Lian was somewhat puzzled, seemingly not understanding why she would ask such a question. Just as she was about to speak, she saw a strange meaning flash in Wen Mo's eyes in the darkness.

"I'm very afraid of the dark."

The girl nodded, and the two clicked instantly.

"Oh, I see. Well, then we'll just have to keep hugging. There's really nothing we can do."

"Yeah, there's nothing we can do about it," Xia Lian muttered blankly.
