As if he had lost all his energy, Zhang collapsed to the ground.
"Tsk tsk tsk, this is so annoying."
Wen Mo shook his head sarcastically. For someone who couldn't see himself clearly, it might be more useful to tell him what was on his mind.
"Let's go, let him cool off here by himself." Qin Zhou picked up the mop handle, snorted unhappily, and strode towards the classroom.
Xiang Xiaonan was taken aback. "Why are you going back to the classroom after school?"
“I’ve taken the mop handle off, I have to put it back.”
"Wait for me, I'll go with you," Xiang Xiaonan said, taking a few steps forward, but then suddenly remembered there was another person in the group. She turned back to Wen Mo, feeling embarrassed, "Um..."
"Does it take three people to put down a mop? You two can go, I have to go pick up some students from the first-year high school."
Wenmer shrugged nonchalantly, showing no interest in being a third wheel, waved his hand, yawned, and then they went their separate ways.
...
"It seems Wenmo went back first."
The first-year classrooms were all emptied, and no familiar figures were seen. Xiang Xiaonan turned her gaze away and walked with Qin Zhou in the sun-drenched corridor.
Aren't you going home?
"I'll take you back, otherwise I'm afraid that idiot Zhang Xie might get the idea of revenge." Qin Zhou looked around anxiously, like a bodyguard by his side.
"Well... there's no need for that much trouble..."
Xiang Xiaonan lowered her head and whispered.
Despite saying that, her body language betrayed her, and she followed him toward the bus stop by the school gate.
Having already wasted some time at school, there weren't many people to be seen at the bus stop. After stopping, Xiang Xiaonan adjusted her backpack, leaned against the billboard, and turned her face away.
The atmosphere was a little awkward, perhaps because they had both resolved a matter on their minds, and neither of them laughed and joked like the other.
Qin Zhou's expression was unnatural, as if he was affected by the silence. After a long while, he pointed to the convenience store behind the bus stop and squeezed out a question, "Want some water?"
I'm not very thirsty.
"Never mind then."
"Sigh... I'm suddenly really thirsty again," Xiang Xiaonan whispered.
Qin Zhou was speechless. Before she could say another word, she ran back and forth between the bus stop and the convenience store at lightning speed, returning with two bottles of milk coffee in her hand.
"Here you go." He handed it over, rolled his eyes, and said with a sly grin, "Can I have something iced today?"
Xiang Xiaonan choked, blushed, and glared at him.
"Sorry, I think I asked too many questions, haha."
Qin Zhou quickly waved his hand to admit his mistake, and his cheeky manner brought the atmosphere back to normal. The air between the two was no longer heavy, and they chatted casually as usual.
The bus arrived quickly, stopping in front of them shortly after they bought their drinks. Qin Zhou and Xiang Xiaonan easily scanned the QR code and boarded the bus.
After a moment of hesitation, Xiang Xiaonan sat down in a seat at the back, turned her face to look out the window, and looked a little nervous. Her meaning was self-evident.
Qin Zhou blinked, puzzled, and asked, "We have to sit separately?"
No! It means you should sit next to me!
Xiang Xiaonan bit her lip lightly, glaring at him with a mixture of shame and anger.
"Oh, you should have said so earlier. I thought you were going to be quarantined with me." Qin Zhou remained composed, holding his backpack in front of him and leaning back in his chair, lost in thought.
The atmosphere, which had just eased slightly, was thrown back to normal. There were hardly any people on the bus, except for one or two students from another school playing on their phones in the front window seats.
"You look so tired?" Xiang Xiaonan held her milk coffee and took a small sip.
"It was really tiring. I spent the whole day writing papers, and I even got angry at that kid after school. I should have given him a couple of punches." Qin Zhou rubbed his forehead, closed his eyes to clear his mind, and said slowly.
"...He's looking for me, why are you so angry?"
"I'm angry because I'm looking for you. I didn't even look at that kid's attitude." Qin Zhou raised a fist and waved it triumphantly. "I hope he'll behave himself in the future. It's a good thing he transferred schools."
"Don't actually hit him again, or you'll get punished because of me..."
I'll try my best.
Qin Zhou spoke slowly, his breathing light. He was just about to close his eyes and doze off when he felt his right leg being gently touched, as if the other person was intentionally pressing against him.
He raised his eyes slightly and saw Xiang Xiaonan lowering her head and clutching her trouser leg.
Her earlobes were slightly red, and she didn't say anything.
"Isn't it too crowded?" Qin Zhou moved a little to the side. "Maybe I should sit in another seat."
"Tsk, just sit still."
"Oh." Qin Zhou fell silent, closing his eyes in thought.
Xiang Xiaonan pursed her lips, hesitating to speak. She stole a glance at him, who was staring blankly with his eyes closed, and then, as if she had made up her mind, she blurted out the words: "I saw you fighting for me before, thank you so much. Although you may not have heard me thank you, I'll repeat it to you now. Also, you were really handsome that day..."
From birth until now, she has probably never spoken so fast. A string of words bursts out, and after she finishes speaking, even she herself doesn't know what she said.
The car was quiet, except for Xiang Xiaonan's soft whispers.
But she didn't want this moment to be so quiet, and tried hard to suppress her shyness. As a girl with a thick skin, she had never experienced this feeling before.
It felt like an eternity had passed. I was both nervous and excited, and my already flushed face turned even redder.
And... why isn't this guy responding?
