Chapter 12 Cat’s Tongue

The first day the two officially moved in together began with them apologizing to each other.

Wen Mo tiptoed carefully past Xia Lian's futon to avoid accidentally stepping on her feet.

Then I walked to the windowsill, gently opened the glass window, and a fresh morning breeze rushed into the room.

"Hmm... the air is really nice this morning." He took a deep breath and felt as if his lungs had been cleansed.

Xia Lian looked puzzled. "But it's almost noon..."

"Cough cough cough...Are you hungry?"

He awkwardly turned his face away to change the subject, no longer wanting to breathe in the fresh air of the "morning".

Although Xia Lian speaks haltingly, she occasionally utters a witty remark or two, whether intentionally or unintentionally, it's hard to tell.

Thinking of this, Wen Mo secretly glanced at the girl next to him out of the corner of his eye.

Xia Lian still had that innocent look, showing no emotion whatsoever, especially her empty, lifeless eyes, which always gave Wen Mo the feeling that she was easily deceived...

"Wen Mo, are you looking at me?" Xia Lian tilted her head slightly, looking puzzled.

"Oh, no, no, I was just checking if you were hungry." Wen Mo quickly looked away.

She blinked, then gently stroked her lower abdomen with her small hand, lowering her eyes in disappointment. "I'm so hungry after waking up..."

"Of course, it's almost noon after all." Wen Mo took out his phone, looked at the time (nearly noon) and hesitated whether to order takeout.

On second thought, I decided against it. If I ordered takeout now, who knows how long it would take for it to arrive? I'd be starving by then.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to go out and buy some breakfast first, otherwise Wen Mo would feel sorry for Xia Lian when he saw her looking hungry.

"I'm going out to buy breakfast first. Wait for me at home for a while, I'll be right back." After saying that, Wen Mo was about to leave when he felt someone tugging at the hem of his clothes from behind.

It's that familiar feeling. I don't even need to guess who it is. Since yesterday, the hem of my clothes has never been smooth again.

"What's wrong?"

He turned around and saw Xia Lian with her head down, her right hand tugging at his clothes, seemingly lost in thought.

After a long while, she slowly uttered a few words, while loosening her grip on Wen Mo's clothes, squatting down to pick up his pillow from the mat, and looking at him with puzzled eyes, "The pillow... is Wen Mo's."

"Oh, you mean this? It's because..."

Wen Mo scratched his head, about to explain the reason, but suddenly stopped. Meeting the girl's gaze, Wen Mo thought for a moment and swallowed back what he wanted to say.

"Because...because last night I accidentally knocked my pillow off while I was sleeping, and it caused quite a commotion, haha..."

He chuckled twice, but didn't tell her the truth. He casually took the pillow from Xia Lian's hand and put it back on his bed.

This reminded Wenmo that she should buy her a doll or a pillow online later so that she could sleep more soundly at night.

Hearing Wen Mo's answer, Xia Lian's gaze changed from doubt to complexity. She said nothing, but continued to tug at his clothes, not letting him leave.

After a long silence, she looked into Wen Mo's eyes and spoke slowly and deliberately:

"I often...have nightmares."

Wen Mo paused for a moment, listened quietly, and pretended to be clueless. "Really? I didn't know that. It seems I'll have to figure this out later."

Seeing his expression, Xia Lian didn't react, but continued, "But last night, I slept very well..."

Wen Mo was unaware that Xia Lian had seen him looking sore and aching that morning.

After saying that, Xia Lian loosened her grip on Wen Mo's clothes.

Wen Mo was silent for a moment, then forced a smile and said, "I'm going to buy breakfast now. You stay home for a while, okay? I'll be right back..."

He waved and walked straight to the entrance. He quickly changed his shoes and looked down to find a pair of cute slippers in front of him.

Wen Mo raised her eyes slightly. "What's wrong? Is there anything you'd like to eat?"

The girl in front of him gently shook her head, simply standing there doing nothing, her gaze fixed on Wen Mo.

He was a little confused, but he didn't care too much. He pushed open the door and glanced back at Xia Lian standing at the door.

Just as he was about to close the door and leave, a delicate voice suddenly came from behind him:

"Drive carefully..."

Wen Mo paused in his hand as he closed the door, staring blankly for a few seconds before a smile appeared on his lips. "Okay, I understand."

I closed the door gently, and my mood improved considerably.

It feels so different when someone sees you off when you go out.

From this point on, the man experienced for the first time the real feeling of having another person in his family.

Leaving the residential area, Wenmo felt the sunshine on his face and stretched deeply.

It's quite a strange feeling to have another person in the family.

only……

That sleep-talking remark bothered Wenmo the most.

Something might have happened between her and her parents.

"I'll ask Dad when I have time," he muttered to himself, his mind already wandering off somewhere else.

About five minutes later, Wen Mo hurriedly returned home with two takeout dumplings, afraid that Xia Lian would go hungry, so he walked back quickly.

Wen Mo took out his key, opened the door, changed his shoes, and looked around, but Xia Lian was nowhere to be seen.

A few seconds later, perhaps hearing the door open, Xia Lian ran out of the room. When she saw Wen Mo return, her eyes became slightly clearer.

"Wenmo".

"Come and eat, I just packed two portions of dumplings." He picked up the bag and showed it to us with a smile.

The two servings of dumplings also came with a lot of soup, which would keep the dumplings warm for a while. The dumplings were filled with corn and pork, which was not only fresh and fragrant but also had a touch of sweetness, making it Wenmo's favorite flavor.

Picking up a steaming dumpling, Wen Mo first bit open the skin, gently blew on it, and then tasted it. "Hmm, corn and pork dumplings are definitely the best."

Just as he was about to start eating, he noticed that Xia Lian, who was sitting next to him, was just holding her chopsticks and showed no intention of eating.

"What's wrong? Don't you like dumplings?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian paused for a moment, then gently shook her head.

"Mom, I used to... make dumplings too..."

After saying something seemingly random, she picked up a perfectly round dumpling with her chopsticks.

Then, after observing intently for a few seconds, make a gesture as if you want to swallow it whole.

"Ouch...!"

Seeing this, Wen Mo was about to stop her, but before she knew it, she had already swallowed the whole dumpling into her mouth.

The next second, Xia Lian's eyes widened suddenly, and she spat out the dumplings she had just eaten, her whole face trembling slightly.

She stuck out her little pink tongue and kept breathing, her eyes instantly filling with tears.

"Hot...hot..."
