Side Story: The Fool and the Sharp Tongue

Contrary to her current lively and cheerful personality, Yin Tao was very introverted when she was a child.

She was always clumsy and couldn't do anything right, which made her classmates dislike her.

On the playground of Qingyuan Elementary School, you can see a little girl with chubby cheeks, running hard to keep up with the group in front of her.

Suddenly, I felt something stepping on me, and I instantly lost my balance.

She stumbled on the rough floor, her whole body like a string suddenly snapped, instantly losing all strength and falling to the ground, the panic in her heart spreading in the air like ink.

"Ouch...!"

Yin Tao winced in pain, trying to stand up, but found that her pants had a hole torn at the knee.

Looking back at my toes, I realized without noticing that my shoelaces had come loose; I had just stepped on my own shoelaces.

"Yin Tao fell down again."

"Haha, this guy doesn't even realize his shoelaces are untied."

"How clumsy! You're all filthy from falling."

The students who were running around all stopped and gathered around to watch Yin Tao make a fool of herself. The jeers and laughter kept assaulting her eardrums.

With trembling hands gripping her shoelaces, Yin Tao looked flustered. She tried desperately to retie the laces, but the more she tried, the more tangled they became.

Yin Tao is currently in sixth grade.

I haven't mastered how to tie my shoelaces yet.

She was in so much pain that she wanted to cry, but it was too shameful to be watched by so many people, so she had to force herself to hold back her tears, her nose and eyes were red.

But the more anxious she became and the more she was about to cry, the more excited her classmates became.

"They're all in sixth grade, surely no one still doesn't know how to tie their shoelaces?"

"Hehehe, that's hilarious! As expected, Yin Tao is really stupid!"

"Let's just tie a knot that's impossible to untie, hahaha."

Children don't realize how much these words can hurt an introverted girl; they only know how to ridicule and attack her, just for fun.

Embarrassment, shame, and a host of other emotions welled up in Yin Tao's heart. She didn't know what to do. Her knees ached, her nose stung, and a strange feeling of suffocation lingered in her chest.

However, Yin Tao had neither the reason nor the courage to refute them.

She's the one who accidentally drops her lunchbox halfway through a meal, she's the one who accidentally tears her homework while doing it, and she's the one who gets terrible grades on exams.

Everyone seemed to think she was a bit slow, and her classmates didn't like Yin Tao either.

Because they said that stupidity is contagious, and nobody wanted to play with Yin Tao.

So she knew that no one would help her in this situation.

"I really want to go home..." Yin Tao lowered her head, her messy hair covering her face, and no one knew what expression she was wearing.

Suddenly, the surrounding jeers stopped as if by unspoken agreement.

A somewhat unfamiliar figure slowly walked up to Yin Tao, gently squatted down on the ground, causing all the students present to be taken aback.

A slight touch came from the shoe. Yin Tao raised her head blankly. Snot and tears had smeared her face into a mess, and her vision was a little blurry, but she could still vaguely see the person in front of her.

A boy is helping her tie her shoelaces.

Yin Tao recognized the boy; he was a transfer student who had just arrived a few days ago, but because he didn't talk much, the whole class didn't really remember him.

He didn't say anything, but calmly tied a bow on Yin Tao's shoelaces. Only after both shoes were tied did he slowly stand up and glance at the classmates around him.

"Can you stand up? Your knee is scraped and needs some medicine. Let's ask the teacher for leave to go to the infirmary," the boy said calmly, bending down and extending his hand to her.

Yin Tao was stunned, but she still subconsciously grasped the small hand that was being reached out to her.

Even though they were all children, and the other child was even shorter than Yin Tao, she felt inexplicably much more at ease. The moment she took the other child's hand, her earlier tension and fear gradually disappeared.

Just then, a boy watching nearby clapped his hands excitedly, "They're holding hands! These two are so shy! Aren't they ashamed?!"

It seems he was the one who was shouting the loudest just now.

Yin Tao lowered her head, hiding her eyes in the shadow of her bangs, and didn't dare to look up from beginning to end, let alone utter a word to refute the mischievous boy.

However, the boy holding hands remained expressionless. He simply walked up to the person who had been egging him on and spoke calmly:

"How childish you are! If you can't speak properly, you can sew your mouth shut."

As he spoke, he gave the boy a look as if he were looking at trash, as if he had seen something extremely disgusting and filthy.

The boy who had been egging him on was stunned. Not only him, but all the students around him stood there dumbfounded.

They've been mocking Yin Tao for so long, and this is the first time they've seen someone dare to help her.

"Let's go," he said to Yin Tao behind him. "I'll take you to the infirmary."

As he spoke, the boy casually took her hand and left. They first went to the PE teacher who had just finished using the restroom, and after receiving permission, they went to the infirmary not far from the playground.

Yin Tao's knee injury wasn't serious; it was just some scrapes. The school doctor gave it a quick treatment and then sent the two kids back to the classroom to rest.

There were only the two of them in the quiet classroom; the other students were still having PE class on the playground.

Yin Tao sat upright in her seat, but her gaze kept glancing at the boy next to her, her two small hands clenched into pink fists with a hint of nervousness.

"Thank you, thank you for helping me..." she said softly, her voice so low that she could barely hear herself.
