Chapter 1101 Crystal

The happy morning passed in a flash, and in the afternoon we had to travel a long way back to Cairo. This journey was quite difficult, 500 kilometers, and 7 hours of driving.

The first half of the road basically follows the Red Sea, and in some places the sea is right next to the road. There are resorts all along the way, and some places closer to Cairo seem to be places where Egyptians go on vacation. Sometimes there is only a small car parked on the side of the road, and there are more than a dozen people playing in the water on the beach nearby - Egyptian cars are very spacious...

The second half of the road was all desert, and it was especially boring because the journey was so long. I fully understand how desperate people felt when they walked through the desert when transportation was not well developed... It was past 9 o'clock in the evening when we arrived in Cairo, and I felt like I was falling apart again.

Alexandria is the northernmost city in Egypt, located at the mouth of the Nile River into the Mediterranean Sea. It takes another 3 or 4 hours to drive from Cairo to Alexandria, which is another long-distance bus trip.

As soon as I arrived in Alexandria, I felt a completely different feeling from the previous Egyptian cities. It was more like a European city, with some European architectural styles, trams running through the city center, and the atmosphere on the Corniche was slightly Greek.

Maybe it’s because I’ve only been to less developed places in Egypt before, such as Luxor and Aswan, and in Cairo I’ve basically only been to the Giza district, so coming to Alexandria is really refreshing - it finally feels like a modern city.

Driving along the Mediterranean Sea, although the road conditions are not very good, but looking at the sea waves and the densely packed vacationers on the beach, it is not boring. This city along the Mediterranean Sea has beautiful scenery and unique romance, and is called the Bride of the Mediterranean.

In fact, the city of Alexandria is nice to walk along the Mediterranean Sea, but since Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo are traveling with a tour group, they will naturally arrange some attractions.

The first one is the Montazah Palace, which is said to be the residence of Cleopatra (I only saw the connection with Cleopatra in the tour notice, and I haven’t seen it anywhere else...), also called the Summer Palace.

The Montazah Palace has the feeling of a European royal garden, with all kinds of flowers and plants imported from Africa. The core building was the vacation place of the Egyptian president before the revolution, and I don’t know how it is used now - it is a very beautiful small castle.

But what attracted Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo more was the Mediterranean Sea, where they could walk to the beach from a small path. The waves in the Mediterranean Sea were bigger than those in the Red Sea, and the waves hitting the rocks would sometimes create very high waves.

I don’t know why they were not allowed to stay at the beach for too long. After a while, the guards asked Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo to leave. As they couldn’t communicate in the language, they didn’t know why.

Alexandria doesn't actually have any authentic cultural relics with a particularly long history, but there have indeed been some brilliant miracles in history - libraries and lighthouses.

The Library of Alexandria is the world's first national library, where famous names such as Aristotle, Euclid, Homer, etc. were left. However, Caesar burned down the library, and it was not rebuilt until 2002 at the suggestion of UNESCO.

It is said that they also considered restoring the ancient appearance, but finally decided to build a brand new one. To be honest, seeing this new library feels like putting the Millennium Monument in the place of the National Grand Theater - it is a library in the shape of a tilted disk with a pool around it - if Yunluo makes the decision, Yunluo is more inclined to restore the ancient appearance.

The Lighthouse is one of the seven wonders of ancient mankind. When it existed, it was more than 160 meters high, and the huge flame guided the direction of ships in the Mediterranean.

But due to many earthquakes, it finally collapsed completely in 1303. The Castle of Qatebe was built by the Sultan of Qatebe using the stones of the collapsed lighthouse. It was used to resist the attack of the Turks. The castle was also severely damaged and then rebuilt. Only the pyramids of the Seven Wonders of Ancient Mankind are still surviving. The others were destroyed by natural disasters, which highlights the difficulty of the pyramids.

The Pompeii Pillar was originally thought to be dedicated to the Roman general Pompeii, but later, when the inscription was deciphered, it was confirmed that it was actually dedicated to the Roman emperor. (Before Yunluo checked the information, he thought it was related to the disappeared ancient city of Pompeii...)

Walking in here, at first glance, you can only see a tall pillar and two sphinxes. It is said that there were more than 400 such pillars. But now there is only one. There is also a secret passage leading to the Library of Alexandria in ancient times, which was used as a library. Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo wanted to go in and take a look, but were stopped by the guards and had to give up.

It is a coincidence that a family cemetery in the Roman period was discovered because a donkey suddenly fell into a hole. The mural style of this cemetery still retains the Egyptian tomb style. It seems to be the burial place of a family who believed in polytheism in the Roman period.

The reason why it is called a tomb complex is that many mummies of people are buried here. But compared with the ancient tombs on the west bank of the Nile, it is much more humid here. I wonder if mummies can be well preserved in such an environment.

There is only one small room in the underground tomb complex that is blocked from entry. It is said that Christians who were persecuted during the Roman period fled here for refuge and were discovered, and were all killed and their bodies were buried in this small room. I felt that the yin energy was too heavy, so I didn't dare to stay for long. I just took a quick look and left.

Speaking of traffic in Egypt, I really can't praise it. There seem to be very few lanes on the road, and cars just cross and weave in and out of the road; there seem to be very few intersections, and if you want to turn left, you always have to turn right first, then walk a long way and turn around, which is equivalent to turning left...

So traffic jams are quite common. It took Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo 4 or 5 hours to travel from Alexandria to Cairo, which is only about 300 kilometers. It was painful.

When the Arabs built Cairo, they lacked stone materials and basically demolished the ruins of Memphis. The ruins of Memphis are now just a small semi-open-air museum. There are not many cultural relics here, and the more famous ones include a sphinx and two statues of Ramses II.

This sphinx is the second largest in Egypt. Its owner is unclear, with three theories: Amenhotep III, Hatshepsut, and Ramses II. Yunluo felt that judging from the soft, feminine smile on her face, she looked more like Hatshepsut.

Of the two statues of Ramses II, the face of the standing one is almost invisible. It is said to be a statue of him when he was young and had not yet become pharaoh. Indeed, his iconic arrogant smile is no longer visible on his face.

There is another one that is placed upside down in a small house. Except for the fact that one leg is missing, the statue is basically perfect. The facial carving is so fine that it is comparable to the golden mask of Tutankhamun. It is probably the most beautiful statue seen in Egypt (no doubt about it).

Egypt's most famous gifts are perfumes, papyrus paintings, and cotton fabrics. However, these things can be found everywhere in Egypt, with the expensive ones costing hundreds of dollars and the cheap ones costing tens of Egyptian pounds. The tour guide said that some of them are real and some are fake. For example, real perfumes do not contain alcohol or oil, while fake ones do the opposite. Real papyrus paintings use papyrus, while fake ones use banana leaves or sugarcane skins, so it is really hard to tell the real from the fake.

The shopping stores arranged by the tour group are basically trustworthy, and the prices are also quite good. In short, you can't avoid being ripped off when traveling. If you need to, you can still buy some for yourself or as gifts. The things are pretty good.

There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!

The real ancient Egyptians and their culture have not been passed down very well. It can even be said that the current Egyptians have little to do with the ancient Egyptians. The current Egyptians are actually mainly Arabs, and 80% of the people in the country believe in Islam, so there are many mosques in the capital.

However, Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo's itinerary did not include experiencing Islamic culture. This mosque was added by Milad for Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo because he felt that since they had come to an Islamic country, they should always take a look at the Islamic culture (although he was a Christian).

Yunluo really didn't hear the name of this mosque clearly, it's very long... I didn't find the name when I looked it up, please help. The mosque is very large, with a square hall surrounding a washing pool in the middle. It seems that this is a mosque open to tourists, so few people go to the mosque to worship.

You can visit this place, but you have to take off your shoes. Women can only enter through the small door on the side and have to wear a green robe.

Yunluo didn't really know much about religion, and didn't know what to ask or say, so he could only walk around and feel the style of Islamic architecture. Devout believers chanted scriptures and worshipped here, and from time to time someone would come and hand you some religious pamphlets, and Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo basically just visited here.

The El Khalili market is the third largest market in the world - it is really big, Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo almost got lost in it. Before coming here, I heard that the people here have sharp eyes and can clearly distinguish between Chinese, Japanese and Korean people, but Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo are often mistaken for each other. The vendors will say "hello" to you in various Asian languages until you respond.

At first, Yunluo would respond to their “hello” with a polite smile, but he would be stopped by them to sell them products, so he simply pretended not to understand.

Although there are many vendors here, to be honest, Yunluo feels that the various statues are as crudely made as always. Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, etc., look 30 or 40 years older. The copper plates here are very famous and are said to be purely handmade. However, Nalan Shiqi and Yunluo looked at several of them and felt that they could not withstand a closer look.

Come here to experience the atmosphere of Egyptian shopping. There are also many locals shopping here. They greet each other warmly and joke with each other, which is quite lively. (To be continued...)
