Toledo's status in Spain is as high as Rome's in Italy. If you stay until the evening and see Toledo under the golden sunset, that is the ultimate beauty. ±, looking at this weather, Yunluo and Yan Chenyu have no chance of seeing such a beautiful scenery.
Standing outside the ancient city, Yunluo was easily curious about the history of Toledo. In 567 AD, Toledo became the capital of the Visigoths in Spain. During the 300 years of Visigothic rule, this place was not peaceful, and there are few of their relics in Toledo today.
History is so cruel. The 300 years of the Visigoths only laid the foundation for this small city. Later, Arabs, Christians and Jews lived in the city together, and the Gothic buildings could only be eroded by wind and rain.
The Alcázar Castle seen from here is extremely magnificent. It stands out in this short and dense ancient city. These short and dense ancient city buildings carry such a heavy sense of history that people can't help but be intoxicated by it.
Walking down from the hills outside the city and around the Horta River, Yunluo and Yan Chenyu reentered the ancient city of Toledo from the Alcantara Bridge. The Alcantara Bridge is also known as the San Martin Bridge. It was built in the 13th century and has two Gothic-style defense towers at the bridgehead.
It was built by order of the Catholic Kings of San Juan Monastery (monasterolicos), which also belongs to the Gothic style. The outstanding features of this monastery are the ornate carvings and superb carving art on the cloisters.
Even more fascinating than the history of the Alcantara Bridge is the fate of the two princesses who walked across it - the daughter of the Visigothic king and the princess-in-law brought back from France by the next king.
In order to obtain the city in the trade, the first king of the Visigoths in Spain married his daughter to today's France as a tool for marriage. The Spanish princess walked out of the gate of Toledo with resentment, crossed the Alcantara Bridge, and crossed the Pyrenees Mountains, and never returned here - not long after her marriage, she was abused to death by her husband.
The second king still liked to use royal marriage to achieve certain political goals, but after seeing the tragedy of the Spanish princess, he decided to change the way of marriage - marrying a French daughter-in-law. So the French princess crossed the mountains and entered Toledo from the Alcantara Bridge.
Fortunately, she was luckier than the previous princesses. Not only was she not abused by her husband, she also brought her faith to Spain. 19 years after the Visigoths occupied Spain, the king of the Visigoths was formally baptized and became a Catholic. Three years later, the Spanish court merged with the Roman Catholic Church.
From then on, the fate of Spain and the Catholic Church were closely linked. It is undeniable that the level of civilization of a nation or a faith directly determines its survival.
After the most difficult part, we arrived at the Jewish quarter of the old city. The terrain was much flatter. The Church of San Juan was built here. Fernando and Isabel built this church to show the supreme status of Catholic faith in Spain. The two rulers planned to use it as their mausoleum, but later they set their sights on Granada.
A royal chapel was built there. Yunluo and Yan Chenyu did not go in. They stopped for a while to look at the exterior and continued to wander around the ancient city.
Compared with Carcassonne, Toledo seems more lifelike, with families and small shops on both sides of the bumpy cobblestone road. These small shops are not opened for tourists, but more for their own lives.
Walking in Toledo, you will find that locals and tourists are walking through the winding alleys together. The only difference is that the locals may hold baguettes in their arms, while the tourists hold cameras in their hands.
But this shop has been through some ups and downs. The sign clearly reads "1856", which means it is nearly 160 years old. With the same name as the Church of Santo Tome in Toledo, this is a century-old shop that sells Toledo's traditional pastry - almond cake. It can be called the "Rice Fragrance Village" of Toledo. Almond cake is the most famous local dessert. It originated from Arabia and exudes a strong almond aroma.
Almond cakes are made according to the ancient method and are still very popular. The store has almond cookies of various shapes, which are one of the best local tourist gifts. The small almond cakes look cute, but it is really hard to say whether they suit your taste.
Because Yun Lai came back and bought a few pieces from this shop next to Sukdebel Square. The taste is very sweet and not as good as the tongue biscuits from Daoxiang Village. But this snack is really loved by the locals. Each of them has to buy a big box to go. The queue scene is comparable to that of Daoxiang Village during the Chinese New Year.
The cathedral is located in the center of the ancient city and is a landmark of Toledo, which shows the status of Catholicism in Toledo. It was the center of worship during the Visigothic rule, and became the central mosque during the Arab rule. Now, of course, it has resumed its status as a Catholic church.
The cathedral is the pinnacle of Gothic art, and the ground floor is based on the ancient Roman style. Looking at the church building itself, one style is superior to another, and many artists have left their marks on this church: Pedro Belugat (as).
In Petruspetri and Juan Guas, you can also get free maps and free toilets.
After walking around the ancient city and returning to the Plaza de Sukdebel, the rain started to fall again. On the east side of the square is an Arabic-style wall. Passing through the Holy Blood Gate, there is a Holy Cross Museum. It mainly displays Spanish ceramics and oil paintings. It is free to enter, but Yunluo and Yan Chenyu did not go there. They only saw the Cervantes statue outside the Holy Blood Gate.
As night falls, like San Gimignano in Italy, most of the tourists in the small town of Toledo gradually disperse, leaving only a pure Toledo.
Yunluo and Yan Chenyu went to the Chinese supermarket at noon to buy freshly baked baguettes. There was still drizzle in the sky. Walking on the wet stone road, surrounded by the quiet deep blue, at that moment, the history of Toledo passed through every inch of Yunluo's skin. Yunluo really thought he was a resident of this town.
Follow the arrow to find the ticket window of Alsa Bus Company. It is recommended to buy a one-way ticket instead of a round trip ticket, as the time is limited.
When returning to Madrid from Toledo, be sure to ask clearly which bus is going to Madrid, because electronic display screens are generally inaccurate and you cannot judge the direction the vehicle is heading by looking at the screen.
If you stay in Madrid for a long time, it is recommended to stay in Toledo for one night to fully experience the atmosphere of the town. Large luggage can be stored in the hotel in Madrid, provided that you stay in the same hotel when you return from Toledo.
There is a Chinese restaurant near Sukdebel Square. It serves buffet food. If you have been away from home for many days and want to eat something delicious, I recommend you go there for a full meal. It costs 9.95 Euros per person and the dishes are quite rich.
There is a Chinese supermarket on the small road to the right of the Chinese buffet (facing the Chinese restaurant), where you can buy water. I recommend the 0.5 euro baguette, which is freshly baked and very fragrant.
McDonald's in Spain, the most common cheeseburger is 1 euro each, which should be the most cost-effective lunch. If you want to save money, you can order two per meal, but if you feel like vomiting after eating, don't ask Yunluo to settle the bill~
There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!
Take bus No. 71 from the bus station north of the Alcázar Castle to go out of the city to see the panoramic view of Toledo. Ask the driver where to get off if you want to see the whole of Toledo. The driver will tell you in advance. You don't have to take the bus when you come back. It's also easy to walk back the same way.
Today is a uneventful and unlucky day.
The original plan was to leave Toledo early this morning and return to Madrid, going directly to Segovia (there is no public transportation from Toledo to Segovia, so they can only transfer through Madrid). However, a series of accidents made the third to last day of Yan Chenyu and Yun Luo's trip a relatively useless day. Let's start from the beginning.
After checking out in the morning, we went downhill easily and arrived at the Toledo bus station by the same route. We successfully bought a ticket back to Madrid at 10 o'clock. We arrived in Madrid at 11 o'clock and arrived in Segovia at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. It would be dark at least at 9 o'clock in the evening, which was enough time. But Yan Chenyu and Yan Chenyu were happily enjoying the last sunshine in Toledo.
When Yan Chenyu was chatting with a fellow countryman who came to Toledo to do engineering, Yan Chenyu suddenly felt her pocket and found that it was over! An apple had fallen into the hotel!! This apple is not the same apple! Everyone knows. Her mind suddenly buzzed, and she quickly ran to Yan Chenyu and said, "Stop chatting, the apple has fallen into the hotel."
Yan Chenyu immediately decided to go back and look for it. After going to the ticket window to exchange for a ticket for an hour later, Yan Chenyu rushed back to the hotel. The bus stop was at the foot of the mountain, but the hotel was at the top of the mountain! Fortunately, 40 minutes later, Yan Chenyu stood in front of Yunluo, panting and holding the apple. It was not a big loss.
Yan Chenyu is a meticulous child. She always checks carefully when she checks out, and she never puts anything under the pillow. But this time, she somehow left something behind! So I remind everyone not to put things under the pillow. You can’t see them when you get up, and you may have forgotten them.
The apple was found, but the time was not. With a tight schedule, one hour is so important. However, even if one hour wasted to find the apple, Yan Chenyu and Yun Luo still wanted to act according to the original plan. But when they arrived in Madrid, the original plan was completely shattered. (To be continued...)
