Section 955: Food always transcends race

The tent was filled with the aroma of beer, roasted pork legs and grilled sausages. Outside the tent was an amusement carnival, with thrilling roller coasters, pirate ships, classic bumper cars and nostalgic carousels. There were beautiful girls and handsome guys wearing beautiful Bavarian national costumes and beautiful felt hats of various shapes everywhere.

There were procession carriages in fancy dress and pepper honey cakes everywhere. As the tent was crowded and noisy, and seats were hard to find, Yunluo finally chose to sit outside the tent in the open air, basking in the sun, drinking beer and watching the scenery.

The Munich Oktoberfest, the world's most famous and grand folk celebration, originated from the wedding of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Theresa in 1810.

In order to let the citizens of Munich share the royal happiness, King Maximilian I decided to hold a horse race on the lawn in the southwest suburbs of the city. From then on, the lawn was named Theresa Lawn. The next year, Ludwig, who loved to host events, continued to hold this celebration and added new elements.

This event was very popular with the citizens of Munich and has been preserved. As time went by, the last horse race was cancelled, but the carnival event was finally retained. Later, due to weather reasons, the Oktoberfest was fixed on the last Saturday of September every year and lasted for 16 days.

Two centuries later, this 16-day festival attracts more than 8 million tourists from all over the world every year, and they revel all night long. For this festival, a special beer, wiesnbier, is brewed. At 11 a.m. on the first day of the carnival, the beer workers' parade (Rasse Street) finally arrives at the open-air square. Tourists from all over the world and Munich citizens dress up in festive costumes and join the joyful parade. At 12 noon, the mayor of Munich will preside over the barrel opening ceremony in the beer tent on time, and the first beer always belongs to the governor of Bavaria. When the governor raises his glass and shouts "Cheers", music starts in the beer tent and the beer of the Oktoberfest begins to be sold.

During the annual beer festival, more than a dozen large tents set up by old beer halls gather in the square. During the entire beer festival, 7 million liters of beer are consumed, 750,000 roasted chickens, more than 100,000 pork sausages are eaten, and there are also a large number of roasted pork legs, roasted fish, and various snacks and desserts.

It was already evening when we set out from Munich, and it was dark when we arrived in Rothenburg. Apart from the bumpy cobblestone roads, there was not much feeling of a medieval town.

After checking in, I heard the sound of gongs and drums outside the window, which sounded like the accompaniment of the Yangko dance in the square of Beijing. Unable to hold back my restless heart, I put down my luggage and hurried out to find the sound. After leaving the hotel, I walked along the alley towards the brightly lit direction. Not far away, there appeared a crowded square.

The gongs and drums stopped at some point, and a large group of people gathered in the middle of the square. Yun Luo subconsciously glanced at his watch. It was eight o'clock in the evening. Having done his homework carefully, Yun Luo immediately confirmed his position. He was standing in the square in front of the City Hall. The group of people must be watching the night watchman's city tour tonight! (I didn't bring my camera.)

In the Middle Ages, Rothenburg had night watchmen to protect the safety of the city at night. Today, the night watchman still appears on time at the Town Hall Square at 8 o'clock every night. However, his job is no longer to watch the night, but to take everyone on a night tour of the city.

The night watchman was still dressed in the style of the Middle Ages. He wore a black windbreaker, held a candle and a strange-looking axe. He introduced himself to everyone in a humorous way, as well as the duties of a night watchman in the Middle Ages, and then led everyone to visit the local historical buildings.

There are mixed opinions about German food. Some people describe it as "difficult to swallow and monotonous". Some people say that "drinking big glasses of wine and eating big chunks of meat" is the happiest thing in life. How is it? Only when you taste it yourself can you appreciate its wonderfulness.

When talking about German food, Yunluo and Yan Chenyu think of pork elbows, sausages, wine, bread, cheese, etc. Let's talk about wine first: the many towns on both sides of the Rhine, Moselle, Main and Neckar rivers that they visited this time are the main production areas of Riesling wine. There are large vineyards in Rudesheim where Yunluo and Yan Chenyu stayed.

Here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Rhine River while tasting the fine Riesling wine. Germany is located at a relatively high latitude and its main grape variety is white grapes. However, compared with its neighboring countries France and Italy, German wine is relatively unknown. This may be because Germans love beer more. It is said that the average annual beer consumption of a German is 127 liters.

However, wine consumption was only 23 liters. In a country known as the "Beer Kingdom", the light, delicious and aromatic Riesling can only be inferior. Speaking of German beer, I really drank a lot along the way, especially in Bavaria, where 3-4 glasses (about 2 liters) of beer a day was commonplace.

Compared to the dark beer Schwarz, Yunluo feels that the white beer (weissbier) here is more flavorful than that in China. Having a glass of it while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Alps is really a great pleasure in life.

Everyone focuses on sausages and beer when it comes to German cuisine, but in fact, German bread is the king of bread in the world. Since Germany is located at the intersection of wheat and rye growing areas, this unique geographical advantage has created the diversity of German bread.

It was only when Yunluo came to Germany that he realized that Germans eat bread for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snack. Bread is indispensable for every meal. When walking on the street, the air is filled with the aroma of toasted bread.

Every morning when I come to the restaurant, all kinds of bread are already placed in the dining area. I take a basket, pick out a few loaves of bread I like, pair them with cheese and ham, and have a cup of coffee, and a healthy day begins.

Most German breads are like stones, hard on the outside and soft on the inside, but this kind of bread is very chewy after you put it in your mouth, and the more you eat it, the more delicious it becomes. This kind of button flower bread is Yunluo's first time to taste. There are grains of coarse salt on the bread, which looks very cute. The coarse salt slowly melts in your mouth, and the slightly salty taste is mixed with the milky aroma of bread. Once you start eating it, you can't stop.

German sausages Germany has more than 1,500 kinds of sausages, and there are dozens of them for breakfast every day. Yunluo can't tell the names and types of sausages at all. When she sees something she likes, she takes a piece to try. The taste of each one is similar, but not exactly the same. In addition to breakfast, she can't help but have one when she passes by a sausage stand in the afternoon. I can only say that it looks so appetizing.

German cheese. Everyone knows that you have to go to France to eat cheese, but many people feel that French cheese is not as delicious as German cheese after going to Europe. Yunluo is not a cheese lover, but when she saw soft cream cheese, hard cheese, and cheese with shallots on the table, which changed every day, she finally couldn't help but try a bite of "bril" cheese.

It was a little uncomfortable at first because there was a layer of patina on the outside, but as you continued to eat, the taste became better and better. It was smooth and delicate. The milky aroma stayed between your lips and teeth for a long time. If you are a cheese lover, you must come here to pack some and take it home to slowly enjoy the pleasure it brings you!

German Pork Knuckle There are also essential differences between pork knuckles in southern and northern Germany. In the northern Berlin region, pork knuckles are marinated in salt water overnight to make the knuckles flavorful, and then cooked in vegetable broth until they are soft. They are usually served with sauerkraut and pea puree. This is what is shown in the picture below. The meat is pink.

It is similar to the boiled pork in Yunluo and Yanchenyu's country. However, the roasted pork elbow in southern Bavaria is more famous and is one of the must-have dishes in German beer halls. Generally speaking, the roasted pork elbow is first cooked in vegetable broth.

Then put it in the oven or barbecue grill to fry. In order to make the skin crispy, finally adjust the oven to high temperature and bake it for another ten minutes. Only then will the skin of the German roast pork elbow be golden and crispy, and tender on the inside.

After tasting two different kinds of pork elbows, Yunluo prefers the boiled one, which looks fat, but is not greasy at all, and the meat is soft and melts in the mouth. Paired with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, it leaves a lingering fragrance between the lips and teeth. Paired with a large glass of beer, this is the German taste.

In addition to the five must-eat foods in Germany, Germany also has a snack called curry sausage. It has a 60-year history of street snacks in Berlin and can now be found everywhere. Choose your favorite sausage, fry it and chop it into pieces, and cut a whole sausage into pieces.

Then pour hot tomato sauce on it, sprinkle with curry powder, and pair it with freshly baked French fries. It's hot and delicious. You'll know once you've tried it, and it only costs 4 Euros.

Since we were in a hurry for this trip and did not do enough research, I cannot give you much help on food. For breakfast, we had the buffet provided by the hotel. For lunch, we went to any nice restaurant when we were hungry. For dinner, we had dinner in the hotel 90% of the time.

However, every hotel in Germany is like a restaurant, and the chefs are of a very high standard. None of them has ever disappointed Yunluo. Although he did some research on a few restaurants before going out, he did not go in the end because of inconvenient parking, or because he was too tired or had too little time. Yunluo posted these good restaurants that others have mentioned.

I hope everyone can have a chance to enjoy the food. Heidelberg 101 Pork Chops really has 101 kinds of pork chop sets. Fussen Knight Theme Restaurant Rothenburg Version Grandmother's Kitchen and of course Munich's Hitler Restaurant In the past half month, Yunluo has left a deep impression on about 5 or 6 restaurants 1. The above reservations, because the itinerary was confirmed only ten days before departure, and it was the National Day holiday, the city center, lake view, and mountain view were all fully booked. Fortunately, Yunluo and Yan Chenyu drove themselves, and finally booked accommodation a little away from the center of the town.

There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!

It takes about 10 minutes to drive there, but the rooms are good and the price is cheap, basically around 1,000 yuan. Of course, Yunluo's favorite is el in Fussen, which I especially recommend to everyone! The price is 1,700 yuan (including breakfast).

When you come to Mainz, you must visit the cathedral. Mainz Cathedral is one of the most magnificent churches in Germany, also known as St. Martin's Cathedral, close to the historical center of Mainz and the pedestrian street market square.

This 1,000-year-old Romanesque cathedral is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Mainz and one of the most important church buildings in Germany. Its significance to Mainz is no less than that of the Rhine Carnival.

This church is a famous Romanesque building, known as a classic combination of classical beauty and mature beauty. It is built of light red sandstone with an octagonal tower on top. It once experienced a real baptism of fire. Due to the wars and fires, the cathedral has been repaired many times. When Yunluo and Yan Chenyu went there, the top of the church's bell tower was still under repair.

The interior of the church is also made of light red sandstone. It lacks the exquisite splendor of the Rococo style, but is more solemn and dignified. Even if you are in a bustling market, this place seems like a different world. Even noisy children will involuntarily slow down their pace, lower their voices, and pray sincerely when they step into the church.

A ten-minute drive from Mainz brings you to another historic city on the other side of the river - Wiesbaden. We chose it because Wiesbaden is a great place to enjoy life. It has the oldest, most elegant and sophisticated spa in Europe, where you can definitely enjoy top-level services and unparalleled luxury.

This is the DB train station. The city has a long history of more than 2,000 years, dating back to the ancient Roman period. The Romans discovered the hot springs here and built a bathhouse on the grass for their soldiers, thus giving rise to the name Wiesbaden, which means bathhouse on the grass.

Wiesbaden is not big. Walking through the green meadow, what catches the eye are the red buildings connected together. The pointed towers reach into the sky. Yunluo couldn't help but exclaimed: "This must be the famous market church."

After parking the car, walk through the square. The red church is very spectacular and eye-catching against the blue sky and white clouds. This church is made entirely of red bricks. The main building is 98 meters high and is the tallest building in Wiesbaden. The market church still basically maintains its original appearance.

Because the most beautiful section along the way is in the middle reaches of the Rhine Valley, between Mainz and Koblenz in Germany.

The river here is winding and the water is clear. Yunluo made this section a highlight of this trip. He didn't want to miss the boat ride to see the more than 50 castles on both sides of the river, nor did he want to miss the opportunity to go into the castles up close to explore them. In addition, Yunluo and Yan Chenyu rented a car. (To be continued...)
