Chapter 22

"Auntie?" Jiang Yuanhai also sat up. "She called you?"

Ji Qiulin was a little overwhelmed: "Should I...should I answer it?"

As soon as Ji Qiulin finished speaking, the phone went dead, and the dormitory returned to silence. Su Luyang sensed something was amiss, so he sat up and leaned over to turn on the dormitory light.

The phone rang again, and Ji Qiulin looked at the three people in the dormitory for help.

"If you want to answer it, answer it." Xiang Ling said, "Don't be afraid."

Jiang Yuanhai crawled over and hugged Ji Qiulin from behind to comfort him.

Ji Qiulin finally took a deep breath and answered the phone.

"Mom?" Ji Qiulin called cautiously.

I don’t know what was said on the other end, but Ji Qiulin’s face turned pale in an instant, and then he began to tremble violently.

From then on until Ji Qiulin hung up the phone, she didn't say another word.

Xiang Ling kept staring at Ji Qiulin. After she hung up the phone and lay down in Jiang Yuanhai's arms, he turned around and signaled Su Luyang to turn off the lights.

Su Luyang was actually full of doubts now, but he seemed to know that it was not a convenient time to talk about these things. He could see that Ji Qiulin was very sad now.

Every family has its own problems, and he himself had his own. Su Luyang turned off the light silently, huddled in bed, and didn't ask a single question.

In fact, after Ji Qiulin hung up the phone, no one in dormitory 605 spoke again.

The three days passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye it was National Day celebration of A.

Xiang Ling was very busy, and Su Luyang also started a day of shooting activities with the photography club.

There were no classes at University A on the celebration day, and all the students had fun the whole day. Each club or class would put on a stall or perform. Xiang Ling and his group's performance would be in the afternoon, following the drama club's turn.

Before going on stage, they all crowded into the activity room, the actors put on makeup, the props team did post-production checks, and so on.

Xiang Ling worked around the clock and ran everywhere, and finally breathed a sigh of relief after sending them onto the stage.

Su Luyang still didn't say why he didn't like musicals, but as long as Xiang Ling was busy with club affairs, he almost never appeared around Xiang Ling. He only occasionally sent Xiang Ling two WeChat messages, but Xiang Ling was also busy and replied very slowly.

During these three days, they could only see each other when they went to bed at night.

Ji Qiulin has been in a bad mood because of the phone call that day. She has not participated in any club activities in the past few days. She stays in the dormitory most of the time. Jiang Yuanhai brings her meals, and she only goes out occasionally when she has classes.

Xiang Ling had talked to her about this matter. In fact, it was not that Ji Qiulin's mother had never called Ji Qiulin in the past two years. It was just that every time after the call, Ji Qiulin would be sad for a long time.

Xiang Ling personally disliked Ji Qiulin's parents. They were polar opposites. Xiang Ling had a very good relationship with them. They were more like family than friends. They could talk about anything and respected each other. They never interfered too much in their choices, offering only professional advice at best, but ultimately, they were the ones who made the decisions.

So after Xiang Ling knew his sexual orientation, he told them directly without any pressure. He didn't even use the word "coming out". It can be said that the concept of being closeted or not does not exist in their family.

There is only unconditional love in their home.

Even after Xiang Ling discovered that he had a cross-dressing fetish, he consulted his father with a very academic attitude.

No matter what decision Xiang Ling made or what kind of person he said about himself, his parents, and now his younger sister, all supported him from the bottom of their hearts and never thought that he was abnormal or had problems.

But Ji Qiulin's parents are different.

Xiang Ling understood that they were afraid and incredulous at first because they didn't understand the transgender community, but that was only the beginning. It had been two years, and Ji Qiulin was their child. As long as they had a little more patience and love, and seriously sought consultation, they would find that their child was not the monster they said he was.

Why wouldn't they want to? Ji Qiulin is their child.

However, there are too many things in this world that Xiang Ling cannot understand, and he does not have the ability to solve them one by one. All he can do is to accompany and comfort the other person to the best of his ability.

After returning from the trip to France, Xiang Ling learned about Su Luyang's resistance to musicals, so he explained the situation to the photography club's president, Jingzi, and asked him to find someone else to follow the filming. Jingzi had a good relationship with Xiang Ling, so he directly said that he would take charge of the filming and also bring in a newcomer to practice together.

The newcomer was a very pretty girl. I heard she was the campus belle of A University this year. Her name was Lin Shiyu. Xiang Ling had met her twice. The first time was when they exchanged a few words on the day of recruitment, and the second time was when he saw her and Su Luyang buying milk tea together in the food court.

There is still a small group of CP fans about her and Su Luyang on the school forum.

As Su Luyang's real boyfriend, Xiang Ling was not embarrassed at all when he saw Lin Shiyu. He was especially caring and would bring her food and drinks when he bought them for the club. He established a good relationship with her in a very short time.

The news that Su Lvyang was gay hadn't spread widely due to his public disclosure in the photography club. As a result, A University was now full of Su Lvyang's fans. Xiang Ling had long been accustomed to this and treated them with a soft touch, determined to make it so that they wouldn't be embarrassed to try to steal his girlfriend if they found out the truth.

Although the rehearsal time was short, everyone in the musical theatre club tried their best to complete the show. When they actually went on stage, everyone performed beyond their expectations, with all the merits outweighing the flaws.

Xiang Ling stood beside Lin Shiyu, watching the show, while Lin Shiyu was holding a DSLR camera and filming diligently. After the show was over, Xiang Ling and Lin Shiyu left the backstage together and agreed with her on a time to hand over the photos.

Xiang Ling was speaking seriously and didn't notice the people coming and going outside the auditorium. It was Lin Shiyu who first noticed Su Luyang standing at the door. After she greeted him with surprise, Xiang Ling realized that the other party had been standing there for a long time.

"Why are you here?" Xiang Ling was a little surprised. He should have been assigned by the club to record celebration activities for others.

Su Lvyang glanced at Lin Shiyu, who seemed to know something and immediately said, "Senior Xiang Ling, Senior Su Lvyang, my roommate has something to talk to me about. I'm going back now. You guys can chat slowly."

Xiang Ling nodded: "Okay, goodbye, be careful on the road."

After Lin Shiyu left, Su Luyang turned to Xiang Ling and said, "I'm here to pick up my boyfriend from get off work."

Xiang Ling laughed and punched Su Luyang lightly on the arm: "You're sick. Let's go and eat something first."

During today's celebration, in addition to the usual fixed businesses, there are also many small stalls set up by classes in the food street. Most of the students in the entire A University are here, and it is so crowded that it is unbearable. Xiang Ling took a look from a distance and pulled Su Luyang out of the school.

"Have you finished filming over there?" Xiang Ling asked.

"Yeah, about half an hour earlier than you guys." Su Luyang said, "Are you going to take them out for dinner tonight?"

Xiang Ling nodded: "Do you want to go together?"

"I don't know anyone there, no matter what I do." Su Luyang said, "Besides, our club has its own activities. We're going to sing karaoke together tonight, just like you guys."

Xiang Ling smiled secretly, thinking that Su Luyang really didn't know that tonight's KTV event was a large-scale social event.

This is the tradition of several of their clubs. The musical club and the photography club are openly in conflict with Xiang Ling and his friends, but in fact, the drama club has a mutual understanding with them. After finishing their school activities every year, they will have a meal together within their own clubs, and then go to KTV to sing together.

Xiang Ling wanted to surprise Su Luyang, so he never told him. Of course, the camera was helping his brothers, so he didn't mention it to the new members.

Because they were having a dinner party in the evening, they found a snack stand after leaving school, ordered some potato flowers and other things, and sat down to eat.

Xiang Ling asked: "Should we find a date somewhere this weekend?"

Su Luyang said, "Where do you want to go?"

In fact, Xiang Ling didn't know where to go, but he thought that they were both in a relationship and they should find time to do some things as a couple.

Seeing Xiang Ling remained silent, Su Luyang suggested, "How about we go exercise this weekend? I've been so busy this week that I haven't found time to exercise."

Xiang Ling was speechless: "Brother, let's go to the gym for our first date? Can you be a little more romantic?"

Su Luyang quickly defended himself, "No, no, you know that mountain behind the school, right? I mean we should go hiking. I heard there's a bow club up there where you can do archery and barbecue."

Xiang Ling got excited when he heard about food: "Can we grill it ourselves? Then why not call Qiulin and the others to come along, and have a picnic!"

Now it was Su Luyang's turn to be speechless: "Little brother, is it appropriate for us to bring two light bulbs to our first date?"

Xiang Ling hesitated, then asked, "How about we postpone it and make an appointment next week? Let's go to the BBQ together this week."

Su Luyang blinked and said nothing. He was a little unhappy.

Xiang Ling noticed this and fed Su Luyang a piece of potato flower in a flattering manner: "Zhou Qiulin is in a bad mood, and I really want to take her out to change her mood."

Su Luyang heard him say this, and a look of worry appeared on his face: "He..."

Su Luyang really wanted to ask Ji Qiulin what happened, but he felt that this was Ji Qiulin's private matter and it might not be appropriate for him to ask. Until now, he still didn't know how the other party was doing.

Ji Qiulin had already told Xiang Ling that he could tell Su Luyang about her situation, so Xiang Ling explained, "She and her parents fell out after she graduated from high school for some reason. Xu Qiulin hadn't been home for two years, and there was no concern or greeting from her family. She even had to work part-time to pay for her college education."

Su Luyang frowned.

"Qiulin never felt good every time her mother called, but her mother rarely called. Including this time, she may have called three times in the past two years," said Xiang Ling.

Su Luyang didn't ask what caused the breakup of their relationship, but instead asked, "How does he treat his parents...?"

Xiang Ling said, "Qiulin certainly loves her parents and has always hoped for their understanding and support, but she never got the chance. Fortunately, Jiang Yuanhai's parents support them, and Qiulin has spent the New Year at Jiang Yuanhai's house for the past two years."

Xiang Ling added: "During the Chinese New Year, she could only be separated from her parents by a wall. This has always been a hurdle in her heart."

Su Luyang was silent. He lowered his head, not knowing what he was thinking about. He looked a little depressed.

Xiang Ling thought he was worried about Ji Qiulin and kept comforting him, but he didn't know that Su Luyang was actually thinking about something else. In the end, when they both went to their separate dinners, Su Luyang still looked unhappy.
