Pei Ke placed all the dishes on the outdoor dining table and took out two sets of tableware from the cupboard.
After slowly wiping his hands clean with a towel, he went to the living room and called people over for dinner.
"Su Xun, dinner is ready."
Upon closer inspection, the person was already asleep on the sofa, curled up in a small ball.
He frowned. Why was this person so small? It seemed he would have to feed him more often in the future.
Su Xun got up following the sound, and a fragrance wafted into her nose.
"Okay, I'll go wash my hands first." She said, putting on her slippers and walking towards the kitchen.
She watched Pei Ke cooking for a while, then was ushered to the living room. She wandered around the living room a few times, but got bored and fell asleep.
The cool water splashed on my hands, dispelling the drowsiness and the stickiness I felt when waking up from a summer midday nap.
The kitchen had been cleaned thoroughly, and there wasn't a drop of water on the countertop. It not only didn't smell greasy, but also had a faint, fresh scent of detergent.
Three dishes were already laid out on the outdoor table: braised chicken, braised eggplant, and a soup made with seasonal vegetables and lean meat. The aroma immediately filled the air.
The two sat down, facing each other.
"Try it."
Su Xun first picked up a small piece of fish with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth. The rich sauce coated the tender fish, stimulating her taste buds. Su Xun was already hungry, and the strong flavor made her appetite even stronger.
"Delicious." She didn't hold back her praise, after all, it really was delicious.
"That's good." Pei Ke breathed a sigh of relief. It was the first time he had cooked for someone else, and he was a little unsure of their skill level. Seeing how much the other person enjoyed the food, he finally felt at ease.
"But when did you learn to cook?" In her mind, Pei Ke shouldn't be in the kitchen, let alone be such a good cook.
"The book has the instructions, and I try them out when I'm at home and have nothing to do." Of course, it's always when no one is home. I threw away quite a few failed attempts back then.
Su Xun remembered that Pei Ke read a lot of books, all sorts of leisure books, and then she understood.
She nodded without saying a word, and carefully savored each dish.
I must say, Pei Ke's cooking skills are really good. If she were to cook, she might not be able to reach this level.
"By the way, when you ran into Lin Nuoyu today, the way you looked at him was a bit scary. I remember you two seemed to have a good relationship."
Pei Ke paused, his hand holding the chopsticks still. Did he look fierce? He had only intended to give Lin Nuoyu a warning, to tell her to stop and watch her tone.
So he said casually, "It's nothing. I'm not that close to her. She's a bit mentally unstable."
"To be honest, I also think there's something wrong with her." Su Xun suddenly craned his neck and whispered, his eyes shining. "She seems to have a very thick skin, really."
Otherwise, why would she deliberately act as if she had a good relationship with Pei Ke every time she was in front of her, even though Pei Ke was clearly not taking the bait?
Pei Ke watched the girl's eyes blink and couldn't help but smile. "Alright, let's not talk about her anymore. I don't want to discuss her."
Su Xun said "oh" and continued eating.
After the meal, Pei Ke cut up a plate of cantaloupe and brought it over.
Watching Pei Ke bustling around, Su Xun clicked her tongue a few times and said, "I only realized today that you have the potential to be a matriarch."
She's been reading a novel about power struggles within a wealthy family lately, and the female lead's stepmother is just that kind of person. Although she's a bit wicked, her housekeeper skills are truly impressive.
What is a mistress?
"How virtuous she is."
Pei Ke: "...Actually, I don't do this very often."
Su Xun ate two pieces of cantaloupe, which had just been taken out of the refrigerator. They were icy cold, and the sweet fruity aroma lingered on her tongue.
She stood up, clapped her hands, and went into the kitchen. "I'll clean up."
