Su Xun was led by Pei Qi to her princess-themed room, where they played puzzles and built blocks together for a while, and time flew by.
"When I grow up, I want to build a castle like this." Pei Qi put on the last piece of the roof, and a dreamlike castle was born on the carpet.
The overall color scheme is blue and white, with a Gothic-style spire on the roof and a twin tower on the side.
"When the time comes, Mom and Dad will live on the first floor, my brother will live on the second floor, my sister will live on the third floor, and I want to live on the top floor so I can see the stars in the sky." Pei Qi gestured with his fingers to indicate each floor of the castle, his words full of childlike innocence.
"Okay, then you have to grow up quickly. I can't wait to live in Qiqi's castle." Su Xun lay down opposite the girl, on the soft carpet. She propped her chin up with her hands, at the same level as the girl, looking at the little house in front of her.
Two knocks came at the door. Pei Ke leaned against the white door, holding a cup in one hand.
"Time to drink your milk. After you finish, get ready for bed." He stretched out his long legs and walked straight in.
Pei Qi slumped to her feet, took the small cup with both hands, and sipped the milk, a white milk stain stained her pink lips.
"Sister, why don't you sleep with me tonight? My bed is very big."
Su Xun glanced amusedly at the small bed next to her, which was covered in lace. The bed was more than enough for a child, but if someone like her were added, the child might be squeezed out.
"My sister's mom is waiting for me to come home, so she can't sleep with you." Su Xun pulled a tissue from the tissue box next to her and wiped away the small ring of milk stains.
She stood up from the ground, glanced at the clock on the wall, and saw that it was already past ten o'clock.
She had been so engrossed in playing with her child that she had completely lost track of time. She took her phone out of her pocket and, sure enough, there were several missed calls, all from her mother.
She only told her family that she was going out for a short while, but didn't say when she would be back. No wonder she made so many phone calls.
Pei Ke watched Su Xun's movements and asked, "Are you leaving?"
"Yeah, it's late. If I don't go home soon, my mom will call the police." She sent a WeChat message to her family with a smile.
"I'll take you back."
"No need, it takes a long time to get back from here. By the time you finish delivering the goods, it will be a long time before you get back." Su Xun shook his head and refused.
By this time, there might not even be a last bus left, so she would have to take a taxi home. If Pei Ke were to take her, she doesn't know how late he would have to work.
"It's not safe for you to be alone. I'm worried about you." Pei Ke looked at Su Xun disapprovingly.
Seeing Pei Ke's determined look, Su Xun didn't say anything more. It was so late, and it was the dead of winter. She was indeed a little anxious being alone, so she nodded.
Pei Ke planned to coax Pei Qi to bed, but he was worried about leaving the child alone at home, so he had no choice but to bring the child along.
As I walked downstairs, I suddenly heard voices coming from the doorway, and the living room on the first floor was brightly lit.
Before Pei Ke came up, he turned off all the lights on the first floor. When he looked towards the door, he saw that his parents had returned.
Su Xun followed behind Pei Ke and naturally saw the two people at the door. Startled, she nervously tugged at Pei Ke's sleeve.
Running into your boyfriend's parents who just came home while you were at his house was incredibly awkward.
"Dad, Mom, you're back." Pei Ke greeted them calmly.
The two people at the door were still complaining about how their company's competitor was bald when they noticed the girl standing behind the character "儿".
"Is that Xiao Xun behind you?" Pei's mother's eyes lit up. She quickly put her coat on the sofa, walked over excitedly, pushed aside the child next to her, and took Su Xun's hand.
"Hello, Auntie." Su Xun greeted her with a smile, then looked behind her and said, "Hello, Uncle."
"It's been years since I last saw you, you've grown so beautiful." Mother Pei looked Su Xun up and down, her eyes filled with undisguised satisfaction.
Su Xun naturally remembered their last meeting, in the teacher's office, with her mother present. At that time, they were being advised by the grade head not to engage in early romantic relationships at such a young age.
Pei Ke's mother left a deep impression on her at that time.
"Are you going home? Why not stay a little longer? You can stay here tonight."
Pei's mother pulled Su Xun toward the sofa, then turned back to look at her good-for-nothing son, "It's so late, how can you let a girl go home alone? Do you know how dark and dangerous it is outside?"
The daggers in his eyes shot one after another towards Pei Ke, who was still standing.
“Ms. Lin, I was just about to take her home,” Pei Ke replied calmly, enduring her mother’s barrage of words.
"Then why don't you persuade them to stay? It'll be too late to go back now, and girls need to get their beauty sleep."
Before Pei Ke could speak, Su Xun explained, "Auntie, it's already a great inconvenience that you came today. My family is waiting for me to come home."
"It's no trouble at all. You're very welcome in our family. But if your family is worried, then you should go home." As she spoke, she turned to look at her silent, simple-minded son.
"Xiao Ke, get the person home safely, or don't come back."
His eyes were practically screaming: Do your best.
Pei Ke completely ignored his mother's gaze; did she think he didn't know such a thing?
Will it?
The two said goodbye to their elders and came out; this time, they didn't need to bring the child with them.
It was pitch black outside. Because it was a villa area, people valued quiet and privacy, so each house was quite far apart. The night was extremely quiet, with only the sound of the wind whistling.
Pei Ke told Su Xun to wait for him at the door for a while, and then walked into the darkness.
