Chapter Fifty-Six: I Can't Help But Share My Feelings

The night sky is filled with brilliant starlight. In late autumn, the sky is always very high, and even the stars seem far away from people.

Such bright nights are rare in Huaicheng at the end of November.

Su Xun lay on the bed, thinking about recent events.

I don't know where the courage came from, but I opened up to people and confided in my mother, with whom I had never been very close. These were things I had never imagined; everything was so sudden and surprising.

If I followed my old ways, I might have kept all my thoughts to myself, never sharing them with anyone. Whether my heart was filled with sweetness or bitterness, no one would know. As my mother said, the past is the past, and only the wind knows the truth of my feelings.

She didn't know if she would regret it later, but she knew that Su Xun didn't want those things to happen to her now.

In six months, she will graduate. Then, they won't have so many worries. With their current grades, they might be able to go to the same high school. Even if they're not in the same class, they can still see each other often, so they can spend their entire student life together.

Su Xun buried herself in the soft blankets, leaving only her eyes exposed as she gazed at the starry sky outside the window, her eyes bright as she quietly imagined their future together.

Everything was so perfect and inspiring.

It seems something is missing.

She always felt that she had forgotten something.

Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I suddenly remembered what it was.

She hadn't told Tang Shi about her situation yet; it would be too unkind of her not to tell her good friend about something like this.

She suddenly jolted awake, threw off the covers and sat up, leaning half her body out of bed to reach for her phone next to her and open her contacts.

She hadn't contacted Tang Shi for quite some time. Their classrooms weren't in the same building, and the junior high curriculum was quite demanding, so they rarely saw each other. They used to go out for meals together, but now, during this crucial period, even the teachers of the regular classes were getting anxious, squeezing every spare moment from their students. Because Tang Shi's foundation was weak, she was often asked by the teachers to come to the office for tutoring.

She was left with only Pu Xiaochuan by herself. Occasionally, when Pu Xiaochuan went to the art studio, she was even more alone. Several times, she was with Gan Tang, which was truly surreal.

Thinking about it carefully, it's surprising that this once inseparable love triangle hasn't been able to get together for a long time.

She dialed Tang Shi's number and waited for a response. She could have used QQ or other similar communication methods, but she was now eager to share this with her best friend.

A few seconds later, the other person answered. But before she could even speak, the person on the other end was even more excited than she was.

"Su Xun, are you alright?!"

Su Xun: ? ?

"What could be wrong with me? Oh, right, there's something I need to tell you."

Tang Shi: "You scared me to death! I thought you'd been kidnapped and were calling me in the middle of the night." In her mind, a girl like Su Xun, with her regular sleep schedule, should be sound asleep by 11 p.m., not calling her here.

Su Xun: "...Alright, listen to me first. This matter is extremely important, and I must make it clear to you."

Tang Shi: "It's rare to see you so emotional that you can't control yourself and want to confide in someone else. Go ahead and tell me, I can handle it. The scariest thing is that well-behaved students are in early relationships."

"That's about it."

Su Xun admitted it quietly, feeling rather embarrassed that someone had suddenly revealed it to him.

After she admitted it, the other person didn't say anything. If Su Xun hadn't been able to hear a faint breathing sound coming through the electrical current, she would have thought the other person had already hung up.

There was no response for a long time, but Su Xun knew to respond and replied, "Doesn't it seem incredible? Actually, I've always felt it was a bit unreal."

The other person finally spoke, "This isn't just unbelievable, the probability of you dating in school is practically on par with the Big Bang right now! Tell me which rascal stole this tender cabbage from you."

She'd been friends with Su Xun for so many years and knew his personality well. He was never one to cause trouble at school, and was incredibly obedient—the title of "model student" seemed tailor-made for him. Then one day, she suddenly told her that she'd broken school rules by dating. That was simply impossible!

But this actually happened right before my eyes.

"It's true, but no one's trying to get me. I'm the one who's getting someone else's cabbage patch." Su Xun was a little embarrassed. Pei Ke was so popular, yet he was with an ordinary guy like him. No matter how you look at it, he was the one who suffered a loss.

Tang Shi was a little excited: "I don't care who stole whose cabbage patch, just tell me quickly, I'm so anxious."

Pei Ke.

Tang poetry: ? ? !

"You really managed to win them over. No wonder you two seemed off before. You two definitely have a special relationship. Come on, tell me who brought it up first."

"I was first." Su Xun's voice lacked confidence; in fact, she herself didn't believe she would have such a glorious moment in her lifetime.

"My God, am I dreaming or are you dreaming?"

Something inside Tang Shi seemed to collapse—her perception of Su Xun. Was Su Xun the kind of person who would take the initiative to confess his feelings?

Of course not!

But this same thing happened right in front of her.

When she heard these things, her jaw almost dropped.

Su Xun briefly explained the process to Tang Shi, of course, omitting some of the more embarrassing details.

The two chatted for over an hour, during which Tang Shi made some very explicit remarks to tease her. She knew that Tang Shi was usually a bit unreliable, but she was still shocked by Tang Shi's words and hung up the phone in embarrassment.

It was already past midnight when Su Xun hung up the phone. She lay back down in bed, and the bottom part of the blanket had gotten cold and was freezing.

Even though it was very late, I couldn't fall asleep anymore and just lay there staring at the ceiling.

On the other side, Tang Shi casually placed her phone, which had been turned off and returned to its calm state, on the table. Her eyes were somewhat vacant, completely lacking the liveliness she had shown when chatting with Su Xun earlier.

She was genuinely happy for her best friend who had finally come to her senses.

She had a vague feeling that Pei Ke and Su Xun's relationship was unusual when she watched them together before. People in their class probably noticed it too, but Su Xun was too serious, and she was too embarrassed to tell her. Now, finally, someone had broken down that barrier between them.

That's great.

She felt a mixture of envy and confusion.

What about her? Will she and Pu Xiaochuan have that day too?

She glanced at the small alarm clock in front of her; it was already quite late. She put away the mock exam she had been working on, turned off the desk lamp, and walked to the bedside.

She's gotten used to staying up late lately, but she probably won't be able to sleep tonight.
