It's a new semester again. Su Xun watched as the classroom, which used to be so lively and noisy, gradually became silent. Every day, everyone was in a hurry, afraid that there wouldn't be enough time.
Only when she saw the osmanthus trees outside the window beginning to sprout new buds did she belatedly realize that autumn had arrived once again.
They have entered the third year of junior high school. She recalled that the beginning of sixth grade was similar, with everyone discussing their target high schools and their future lives.
However, it seems a little different; they have a deeper understanding of themselves and talk about their dreams and what they want to do in the future.
It seems that this is how student life is, always full of dreams and endless aspirations, and everyone's eyes sparkle when they talk about it.
Last semester, we finished the biology and geography exams, and now we have a new subject added, but I still feel like there isn't enough time.
Teachers of all subjects are on high alert, preparing for the graduation exams next June. They have prepared book after book of review materials to ensure comprehensive review.
Overall, everyone has changed a lot this semester.
The biggest change is simply changing seats.
It's said that breaking up a small group at school is easy; all you need to do is change seats.
Sometimes it's not just about changing seats; it could be a pair of friends who used to get along well gradually drifting apart, or it could be the severing of a budding romance. The first and third groups were only two or three meters apart, so close, yet it felt like an entire galaxy separated them.
During the summer vacation, Ms. Liu rearranged all the seats in the class, arranged the seats in advance, and posted the latest seating chart on the podium. After the start of the new semester, everyone changed their seats themselves.
Before I even had a chance to say goodbye to my old deskmate, I was moved to a new place.
"Oh my god, I'm sitting next to the top student!"
Su Xun's new deskmate is a cheerful girl named Zhou Beibei. She has a personality similar to Pu Xiaochuan's, both being outgoing and easy to get along with. Her grades are average. When she sees Su Xun sitting next to her, she can't help but exclaim in surprise.
Su Xun hadn't had much contact with her, and was a little unaccustomed to such enthusiasm, so he simply smiled and gave a brief greeting.
Fortunately, Zhou Beibei seems to have endless things to talk about with everyone, as if she has inexhaustible energy. Now she's chatting with the student sitting in front of her. She's truly amazing.
"The goddess is sitting diagonally across from me, what incredible luck I've had!" Zhou Beibei excitedly waved to the person in front of her. "Now I have two top students around me, I don't believe I can't help but chat during class."
Su Xun then realized that the person in front of him was Gan Tang, who still had a cold and unapproachable demeanor and was tidying up his desk. Su Xun greeted her as well, and the other person simply nodded politely.
Even though they'd been in the same class for two years, Su Xun felt a little annoyed that she still didn't seem to know many people very well. However, she soon realized it was quite normal; she didn't participate in class activities much and wasn't good at interacting with people, only having a few regular conversational friends.
She knew that Pu Xiaochuan was next to Gantang, but now she didn't know where he had gone and couldn't find him.
With Pu Xiaochuan and Zhou Beibei beside her, she had a premonition that the days ahead wouldn't be so peaceful.
At this moment, Pu Xiaochuan also returned. After the two greeted each other, the two people next to them seemed to be kindred spirits who had not seen each other for many years. As soon as they met, they started talking and chatted very enthusiastically.
Su Xun had no intention of joining their conversation, and simply turned her head in another direction.
This time, I finally separated from Pei Ke. One of us was in the first group, and the other was in the fourth group, a whole classroom away.
In fact, in her memory, no matter who changed around her, she and Pei Ke always seemed to sit together, from fifth grade to the second year of junior high school, for a full four years, giving people the illusion that they would be together forever.
So even now that she has a new deskmate, she still feels a sense of unreality, as if everything she sees now is an illusion.
After a summer vacation, Pei Ke seemed to have grown taller, and her face seemed to have changed a bit. Had it been too long since she had looked at herself properly? From a distance, she looked as if she were shrouded in a layer of light, making it difficult for her to see clearly.
Their relationship began to change slightly at the end of last semester. Both of them noticed it, but neither of them stepped forward to confront the other about it.
They are still deskmates, but apart from normal conversations, they no longer have any interaction, and this has continued to this day.
This sudden change in seating arrangement left them unsure whether to breathe a sigh of relief or feel annoyed and regretful.
Pei Ke was lost in thought from the moment he sat down, his eyes fixed on the new book, his hands fiddling with the cover, his fingernails inadvertently scratching a small bump on the waterproof seal.
Occasionally, when something comes to mind, his expression becomes a little strange, but then he returns to normal.
It's better if we don't sit together anymore. He had been thinking about it for two months but still couldn't figure out how to face that person.
He knew he couldn't ignore Su Xun's influence on him, and being separated from his teacher now seemed to be the best outcome.
He lifted his fingers from the book and gave a self-deprecating laugh.
"Pei Ke, I never expected to sit with you. Please take care of me in the future." The girl smiled brightly, her joy making even the small mole at the corner of her eye seem more cheerful.
Only then did I bring my thoughts back and look towards the source of the sound. When I saw the other person's smile, I unconsciously frowned.
"It's you."
He had few memories of his new deskmate, the clearest of which was the blue love letter that had annoyed him for a while.
Song Lisha sat down gracefully, a smug smile playing on her lips.
This seating arrangement was truly to her liking. It was unpleasant to see him and Su Xun sitting together before, and there was nothing she could do but watch Pei Ke treat Su Xun differently.
