After the torrential rain, the camphor trees outside the window were washed clean, their glossy green leaves gleaming. A plump drop, seemingly unable to bear the weight, rolled down the vein of the leaf and landed on the windowsill with a "plop".
The rain continued intermittently for two days. A beam of golden light refracted from the thick clouds in the distance, casting a soft glow on the profile of the person by the window.
Su Xun carefully took out the admission notice from the drawer, as if it were a priceless treasure, afraid that it might get even a scratch.
She opened it, and the two prominent words "Su Xun" came into view, and a happy smile unconsciously appeared on her lips.
Tomorrow I'll be taking it to school for registration. It feels like I'm holding more than just a piece of paper; it's a key to a new world.
The moment I've been so looking forward to is finally here.
Hello, this is Su Xun, who will be a freshman soon.
She said it to herself silently.
Her phone suddenly vibrated, pulling her out of her thoughts.
She unlocked the screen, and a familiar name popped up.
"Su Xun, I heard you also applied to S University. Tomorrow is the freshman registration day. I don't know anyone here. How about we team up? If it's okay, I can even help you move your things."
It's Bai Yuanchuan.
This person was in the same class as her, but that year she was so focused on studying that she didn't have many friends among her classmates. However, she did remember this person; he always sat behind her and was always very kind to those around him.
Back then, the homeroom teacher of the re-examination class created a large WeChat group for them. She didn't talk much in it, but I vaguely remember accepting a few friend requests. It seems that Bai Yuanchuan was one of them.
Judging from his tone, he must have gone to the same school as me; it must be fate.
Since they were classmates, and the other person actually remembered her and invited her, she didn't refuse and replied with an "okay".
The two chatted for a few more minutes, exchanging congratulations but nothing substantial. She quickly grew bored and was about to politely say goodbye when the other person spoke again, this time finally saying something useful.
The two simply agreed on a time and place to meet, and that was the end of it.
Actually, Bai Yuanchuan wanted to say a few more words, but Su Xun dismissed him with the excuse that he still needed to pack his luggage.
The excuse was obvious to everyone, but she didn't want to explain further, since the two of them didn't have much of a relationship to begin with.
Su Xun woke up naturally at dawn the next day; in fact, he hadn't slept much the night before.
Perhaps I was too excited, because I lay in bed for a long time without feeling sleepy. I got up, turned on my computer, and typed for a while, writing down the plot in my mind.
I was so engrossed in writing that I realized it was already past 2 a.m. The night outside was deep, with hardly a few stars in sight. My mind was still buzzing with excitement after finishing the piece, making it even harder to fall asleep, so I just lay in bed and resigned myself to fate.
I eventually drifted off to sleep, but it was a light sleep, and I woke up as soon as it was light in the morning.
As a result, she ended up with two huge dark circles under her eyes. When she looked in the mirror and saw her listless face, Su Xun almost thought she was back in her year of repeating a grade. She immediately rushed out and checked the date on her phone.
August 30, 201X, 6:30 PM.
Seeing this number put my mind at ease, and I went back to the bathroom to continue brushing my teeth.
However, it's not good to go to school looking so haggard on the first day of university. She's already a year older than the other freshmen, and if she still looks like that, she'll probably be called "auntie."
After washing her face, she simply applied a thin layer of foundation, focusing on covering the area under her eyes, drew her eyebrows, and finally applied a vibrant coral lipstick.
Looking at her flawless face in the mirror, she finally put the lipstick cap back on with satisfaction and went to change her clothes.
In the past few years, she often went dancing in newly opened shopping malls, and gradually learned how to do makeup. She remembers that in junior high school, she didn't even use children's cream, and she didn't understand any of the skin care and makeup products that her roommates discussed every day. Now, she's quite adept at it.
Because she left school early to work various jobs, she became more adept at dressing up than girls her age.
So when she walked with her suitcase to a convenience store not far from the school, she received a lot of subtle glances.
Ignoring the ambiguous glances, she walked straight to the tall boy standing at the convenience store entrance. He was wearing a light-colored t-shirt and jeans, with a huge suitcase next to him, and he looked somewhat uneasy.
"Bai Yuanchuan?" She was a little unsure, after all, she hadn't really observed the students in the repeat class very carefully.
The boy seemed startled, and looked up at the girl who was also looking him over. "Su Xun, you're very different today."
She quickly lowered her head, a little embarrassed, a slight warmth rising from her wheat-colored skin. Then, as if remembering something, she looked up again. "Have you had breakfast yet? The breakfast at that place I just ate at was really good, want to try it?"
His tone was extremely cautious.
Su Xun shook his head. "I've already eaten."
She got up early today, cooked some simple porridge at home, and ate some leftover toast from the refrigerator. She's not hungry at all now.
"Let's go to the school to register first," she suggested.
"That's true, it's quite sunny outside." Bai Yuanchuan chuckled憨厚ly.
It was around nine o'clock in the morning, and the sun was already high in the sky; the sun at the end of August was still quite annoying. So the two of them pulled their luggage and walked towards the school gate.
S University is a language-focused school, so the entire campus has a blend of Chinese and Western styles, and the school gate is both simple and beautiful.
