Chapter Sixteen: The Childish Demon

Yanshan is located in the suburbs not far from the city. It has a low altitude and is covered with subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests, which are lush and green all year round. Yanshan is most mysterious after the rain. Water mist gathers into a layer of light blue gauze. When you walk into the mountain, the view in front of you is faint and indistinct, which inspires your imagination.

In recent years, the government has attached great importance to the development of Yanshan. A small amusement park was built on the flat area behind the mountain. Entering from the front gate, you can walk to the end where there are various amusement facilities. This wonderful idea has attracted many people to come and try it out out of curiosity. As the flow of people increased, a large number of businesses came to invest, and the facilities gradually became complete. It has become a popular place for families to go on weekend outings.

At 7:40 a.m., Su Xun and his group met at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. They changed into light sportswear and carried a large bag containing snacks and medicine.

Today is a sunny day. In summer, the sun rises early, and it's already high in the sky. But the forests of Yanshan are dense, so the sunlight isn't glaring. Only a few rays filter through the gaps in the leaves, creating dappled patterns on the ground, which looks absolutely dreamy.

Because everyone had gotten up so early, they were all a little sleepy, but the mountain air was fresh. The morning air was filled with the moisture of grass and trees and the fragrance of soil, washing away the last vestiges of sleepiness and making them feel refreshed. The chirping of unknown birds overhead added to the natural feeling.

Before going in, Su Xun looked at the people in front of him and asked softly, "Have you all had breakfast? I brought some bread with me. Be careful not to get hungry later if you don't eat something."

"I already ate on my way here."

"I ate something at home."

Tang Shi and Pei Ke had already eaten breakfast, so there was only one left—

"Hehe, Su Xun, I haven't eaten yet. I got up too early today and didn't think about eating at all. I slept the whole way." Pu Xiaochuan scratched his head sheepishly.

Su Xun took the bread out of his bag, walked over and handed it to Pu Xiaochuan. Pu Xiaochuan took it, immediately tore open the packaging, and swallowed it.

Seeing that Pu Xiaochuan was completely empty-handed, Su Xun suddenly had a very bad feeling. "Oh my god, Pu Xiaochuan, you didn't bring anything with you, did you?"

"What else do we need to carry when climbing a mountain? Isn't it best to carry only what's light?" Pu Xiaochuan swallowed the bread he was holding in mid-air, looking genuinely confused.

Su Xun sighed, realizing that this was exactly the kind of thing Pu Xiaochuan would do.

"Some people just don't use their brains. If they get hungry or injured later, don't bother others." Tang Shi, who had been keeping her distance from Pu Xiaochuan, suddenly spoke sarcastically, and then glanced at Pu Xiaochuan's empty back.

Su Xun knew about their situation and that they hadn't reconciled yet. The atmosphere had been quite strange all day. Tang Shi stood as far away from Pu Xiaochuan as possible, sandwiched between her and Pei Ke. She didn't know what to say. Pei Ke seemed to sense something and didn't seem to want to get involved, listening to music on the side.

Pu Xiaochuan wasn't angry after hearing Tang Shi's words. He pulled Su Xun aside and whispered in Su Xun's ear, "Su Xun, you have to help me. We've been friends for so many years."

Su Xun frowned. "How can I help you? Tang Shi is clearly still angry with you."

"You don't need to worry about that. I'll find a time to explain to Tang Shi alone later. You just need to avoid Pei Ke." Pu Xiaochuan looked confident.

Su Xun was amused by his smug look. "Don't worry, just give me a look when the time comes."

Watching Su Xun and Pu Xiaochuan interact, Pei Ke frowned in dissatisfaction and turned his head to the other side.

Forget it, out of sight, out of mind.

The four of them, each with their own thoughts, entered the mountain in a very "harmonious" manner. The first part of the road was relatively flat with a gentle slope, but the road gradually became steeper as they went further. About a quarter of the way, the road split into two paths, and the group stopped as if they were wondering which way to go.

Pu Xiaochuan immediately pulled Su Xun aside and said loudly, "One of these two roads is the same as the road under our feet, with a flat surface, while the other is a mountain road with steps, and some sections are particularly steep."

She turned around again and asked, "Tang Shi, which path do you want to take?"

Tang Shi ignored him, snorted, and charged forward.

Pu Xiaochuan gestured to Su Xun and then chased after him.

Su Xun understood what he meant, turned around and looked at Pei Ke, "Since it's mountain climbing, how about we do something more challenging and take this difficult path?"

Su Xun made up a random excuse to pull Pei Ke to her side, giving the two in front some time to resolve their conflict.

Pei Ke had sensed something was off about Tang Shi and Pu Xiaochuan from the beginning, and based on their behavior along the way, he became even more certain of his thoughts and agreed.

On the way, Su Xun explained the day's events to Pei Ke, including her and Pu Xiaochuan's plan, but did not reveal the specifics of Tang Shi and Pu Xiaochuan's argument.

So that's what they were discussing over there in secret.

In an instant, things cleared up. "You said you wanted something challenging, so I think we can increase the difficulty. Let's have a race to see who gets to the top first! Are you up for the challenge?"

Su Xun was taken aback. "You actually want to compete with a weak woman like me in mountain climbing?"

"You're the one who said you wanted something challenging. I thought you liked excitement. What, are you scared?" Pei Ke was in a good mood.

"Let's compete, who's afraid of who?" After saying that, he sped up, leaving Pei Ke behind.

Seeing that he had fallen behind, Pei Ke quickened his pace and soon caught up with the yellow figure in front of him.

"Hey, little girl, why are you struggling to climb? Do you want Young Master Pei to help you?" Pei Ke said, then stepped past Su Xun, leaving her behind several steps down the stairs.

They caught up so quickly?

hateful.
