Chapter Twenty-Seven: After Encountering the School Bully

At the end of December, as the end of the semester approaches, things are more likely to go wrong at such a crucial time.

The weather is cold, and students in the class are starting to catch colds one after another. Several students have already taken leave to go home and rest because of their illness. The homeroom teacher is worried that the colds will get worse and interfere with the final exams, so she emphasizes to the class every day that students should wear warm clothes and drink plenty of hot water.

Having been a homeroom teacher for over ten years, she knows very well that teenagers like to show off and don't like wearing thick, clumsy clothes. They get sick as soon as the wind blows, which gives her a real headache.

After morning reading, the classroom wasn't as noisy as before. It was cold outside, with a chilly wind blowing, but the classroom was warm and cozy with many people, so it was a good time to catch up on some sleep during this long lesson.

Su Xun walked to the back of the classroom, picked up the cleaning tools, but didn't see Lin Xiaoxue, who was in the same group as her cleaning the area. After thinking for a moment, she realized that Lin Xiaoxue was probably sick.

It seems she'll be cleaning alone today. The area they're responsible for is quite large, consisting of the staircase from the third to the fourth floor of Building C, plus the corridor on the fourth floor. Usually, she and Lin Xiaoxue work together well, one sweeping and the other mopping. But today, she's alone, and there won't be enough time to finish everything by herself. Besides, Building C is relatively clean since there are fewer people, so she's decided not to mop and will just sweep.

Perhaps because most of the building is occupied by laboratories and computer rooms, students rarely come here. Now it's deserted, with only the sound of the wind howling.

Su Xun rubbed his hands together, regretting that he had forgotten to wear gloves. After going out, his hands felt like they had been soaked in ice water, and they were too cold to bend or stretch.

Every now and then, a gust of wind blew in from the railing, making the few strands of hair on my forehead messy. The cold air felt like a knife cutting into my face, making my delicate cheeks sting.

Su Xun quickly finished cleaning the corridor and wanted to go into the stairwell to avoid the wind. Just as he reached the corner, he heard the sound of a lighter being lit, and then a pungent smell of smoke reached his nose.

Is someone hiding here smoking?

Yes, there are few people here, and some disobedient boys often hide here and do bad things. When she cleans this area, she often finds a few cigarette butts that haven't been taken away.

She had heard that those boys were troublemakers who gave the teachers headaches, had bad tempers, and often caused trouble. She wondered if she would be retaliated against if she ran into them at this time.

Su Xun quickly stopped and hid in the corner, not daring to go forward.

But she has to clean that section of stairs herself. They definitely won't take their cigarettes with them, and the ground will be covered in cigarette butts and ash. If she doesn't clean it up, the students inspecting the cleanliness will deduct points.

What should we do? What should we do?

Su Xun was conflicted; she didn't want to cause trouble, and she especially didn't want to be criticized by the teacher for losing points on hygiene.

Voices could be heard coming from inside the stairwell.

"Tsk, you guys hurry up, we're about to be suffocated by the stench." An impatient voice rang out.

"Brother Ce, almost done," Luo Feng replied with a grin. For some reason, Brother Ce, who was usually very bold and led a few of them to act like bullies at school, disliked the smell of smoke. Jiang Ce's uncle was a school leader, so the rest of them didn't dare smoke at school. They dragged Jiang Ce along, thinking that if they got caught, Brother Ce would protect them.

Then came a rustling sound.

Brother Ce?

It was Jiang Ce? She had heard of him from Tang Shi. Jiang Ce and Pei Ke were both very famous in their grade. However, Pei Ke was famous for his good grades, while Jiang Ce was famous for being unruly and defying teachers at school. But both of them were very good-looking.

Jiang Ce has a bad temper and used to fight with thugs outside of school. It's said that he's terrifying when he gets angry, so everyone tries to avoid contact with him.

She actually encountered someone like Jiang Ce. If he finds out she was spying, won't she be hunted down?

"Who's there? Come out!" A sudden shout startled Su Xun, making her legs tremble.

You must have been so engrossed in thinking that you accidentally moved and got caught.

Su Xun tugged at the hem of his clothes, and slowly made his way out with a broom in one hand.

As soon as she stood still, she hurriedly clarified, "Don't worry, I promise I won't tell anyone."

The person opposite was indeed Jiang Ce, standing out among the group. He wore his school uniform loosely, looking unserious but not at all inappropriate. It would be awkward for someone like him to wear his school uniform properly. Right now, his eyes revealed a sharp edge, as well as a guilty feeling of being caught doing something wrong. But that guilty feeling was only fleeting, and he glared at her fiercely again afterward.

"Why should I believe you? You might just turn around and complain to me later." Jiang Ce scoffed lightly. Although what he said sounded quite fierce, his tone revealed a nonchalant attitude, which made it hard to be afraid of him.

Jiang Ce seems different from the rumors; he doesn't seem as fierce as they say.

"Brother Ce, this is Class Two's cleaning area. Looks like it's a nerd from the top class. Should we go and warn them?" Before Su Xun could explain, a round-faced boy next to him spoke up.

"Um, listen to me, I'm usually terrified of talking to teachers, I would never go and complain to them." Su Xun was so anxious that she even came up with this excuse. After saying it, she bit her tongue. What a lame excuse.

A soft laugh came from the other end of the line; it was Jiang Ce.

Unexpectedly, the man waved his hand and said, "Never mind." Then he started to leave.

"Brother Ce, are we just going to leave her like this? What if she really complains?" The round-faced boy named Luo Feng couldn't help but get a little angry when he heard that Jiang Ce wasn't going to cause trouble.

Jiang Ce turned his face, raised his foot and kicked Luo Feng, making Luo Feng wince in pain.

"Hurry up and leave. Also, you guys pick up the cigarette butts on the ground and take them with you." After saying this, he strode away.

The remaining people, though confused, did as Jiang Ce said, picked up the cigarette butts on the ground, and chased after him. The round-faced boy who had been kicked glared at Su Xun before leaving.

Su Xun was also bewildered by this series of actions.

Is this the end of it? What happened to the troublemaker, hot-tempered and unapproachable person he was supposed to be?

In the corridor of Building B, a group of people were walking behind a tall boy.

Soon after, the round-faced boy walked up again, unwilling to give up, and put his hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. "Brother Ce, what was wrong with you just now? I've never seen you so kind before. You just let her go like that."

Jiang Ce glanced at him, too lazy to pay him any attention, and disgustedly brushed away the paws that were resting on him.

Someone else chimed in, "Brother Ce probably doesn't want to argue with a woman, but that person was really good-looking. I've never seen him before."

"So, the students in Class Two are quite good-looking."

"First it was Gantang, then Song Lisha, and today I saw a little white rabbit. This little white rabbit looks so bright and clear, with eyes like little hooks. Just looking at her makes my legs go weak."

"What 'little white rabbit'? Can you guys stop having such filthy thoughts?" Jiang Ce shouted irritably as the words became increasingly outrageous.

A little white rabbit? It is indeed quite white.
