During evening self-study, the classroom was extremely quiet, filled only with the sounds of turning pages and rubbing pens.
With only a week left until the end of the semester, everyone is nervously preparing for their final review. It's all about whether they'll have a good winter break and receive lucky money for the New Year. The students are all studying hard to get good grades.
Su Xun wasn't after the New Year's money; her family didn't do that, and even if she got first place, her New Year's money wouldn't increase. She simply wanted to do well in her studies, get good grades on her graduation exams, and go to the best high school in the city.
She never had any grand ambitions growing up. She just wanted to study hard, get into a good university as her parents wished, find a job she liked that could support her, marry someone suitable when she reached a certain age, and live a smooth and successful life.
However, as I tilted my head, I saw the person next to me reading a foreign classic. His profile was serious, and the lines of his jaw revealed the naivety of a young man. How could a boy's eyelashes be so long and thick, casting a shadow under the incandescent light? He was completely absorbed in the book. He must really like those round letters to have his eyes sparkling when he was engrossed in it.
Could she perhaps change her mind a little? Is it possible for her to become outstanding herself, to radiate light when talking about things she loves, and to get a little closer, even closer, to his world?
In elementary school, Pei Ke helped her overcome her fear of the future and face the challenges with equanimity. Now, his excellence makes her envious, and she wants to become a better person. He makes her waver, wondering if she could take a gamble on the future, persist in what she loves, keep a dream in her heart, and watch it slowly blossom. His excellence moves her even more, making her feel very insignificant, and she dares not tell him.
A sudden ringing interrupted Su Xun's thoughts, and she quickly turned her head away. It seemed that every time she stared at Pei Ke, she couldn't help but stare for a long time. Pei Ke's face wasn't like Jiang Ce's flamboyant and sharp features, instantly stunning; rather, it was like the spring sunshine and the gentle breeze in the forest—clean features that made him easy to look at, and his smile possessed a youthful energy and naiveté.
"It will be even more beautiful when it grows up in a few years," Su Xun thought.
My classmates were all packing up their things to go back to their dorms.
Pei Ke got up and stuffed everything into his bag. He glanced at Su Xun, who was still in a daze, with a slight smile on his lips, seemingly lost in thought. He couldn't help but pull one of the envelopes from his hand and slap it on Su Xun's head.
"What are you thinking about? You're drooling."
Su Xun hurriedly wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, feeling the person next to her suppressing a laugh, their shoulders shaking. She then realized she had been tricked again, wrinkling her nose. "Pei Ke, you lied to me again." She didn't know when it started, but Pei Ke would find her embarrassed and would always deliberately provoke her.
Where did Pei Ke, who usually patiently taught her problems and encouraged her, go?
"Hahaha, what were you thinking about just now? You were so serious. I actually believed you when I said you were drooling. Were you thinking about eating braised pork knuckle during self-study?" Pei Ke couldn't hold back this time and burst out laughing.
Su Xun glared angrily at Pei Ke, then stormed off without even taking her bag.
Pei Ke knew that Su Xun was easily embarrassed, and seeing how angry he had made her, he awkwardly touched his nose and didn't dare to go forward and call out to her again.
Just as she was about to leave, she glanced at the stack of pink letters in her hand, strode to the back of the classroom, and threw away her girlish sentiments without a second thought.
He had originally planned to throw all of these away, but he was drawn to Su Xun's dazed expression halfway through.
Sigh, girlish sentimentality is just too terrifying. Every few days he has to pack up a stack of them and get rid of them.
What a load of rubbish! It's infuriating!
Su Xun stormed back to her dorm room, even forgetting her bag. In this cold weather, going back to get it now would be torture. Anyway, the security guard would lock the classroom after it was empty, so she wasn't worried about safety.
Because she walked quickly, when she opened the dormitory door, it was still pitch black inside; no one had returned yet.
Following her roommates' usual routine, they would go to the cafeteria to buy some snacks after evening self-study, and it would probably take them a while to come back. Su Xun planned to wash up first, otherwise everyone would have to queue for the restroom when they returned, which would take a long time.
She turned on the tap, listening to the cool water rushing over her hands. She washed her face, the cold water splashing on her skin bringing a refreshing chill that cleared her head and extinguished her anger.
The girl in the mirror suddenly lowered her gaze.
Just now, Pei Ke was holding a stack of love letters, right? The packaging was so girly, it couldn't be love letters.
Speaking of which, Pei Ke really is quite popular with girls. Every day, she would see girls from other classes sneaking into the classroom and stuffing things into his desk when he wasn't around. It was really an eyesore, and she really wanted to secretly tear all those letters into pieces and throw them in the trash.
The water flow never stopped, filling the entire sink. The water overflowed from the edge, wetting Su Xun's slippers. A slight chill seeped through the thin fabric, stimulating her toes. Su Xun finally snapped out of her daze and hurriedly turned off the tap.
Was she possessed just now? When did she become so possessive? He had never belonged to anyone. She shook her head vigorously, trying to banish these chaotic thoughts from her mind.
If Pei Ke knew she had these thoughts about him, she would definitely dislike him. So let it be. It's fine for us to be friends and joke around occasionally. She can stand in front of him confidently when she's older and more outstanding.
