Chapter Eleven: Difficulties

Watching the leaves outside the window change from lush to withered yellow, and finally fall, spreading a golden carpet, burying themselves in the soil, and crushing them into tender buds for the coming year.

September passed in curiosity and confusion, and October is also coming to an end. Rossi Middle School is also welcoming the midterm exams.

The exam lasts for two and a half days, and the third day happens to be the weekend. After finishing the last exam in the morning, we will have a day off.

The students were both nervous and excited; nervous because it was their first major exam since the start of the semester, and excited because they could go home early.

After the last geography exam, the homeroom teacher, Ms. Liu, went into the classroom to assign homework and then dismissed the students.

Su Xun packed up the homework she needed to take back and planned to go back to her dormitory first to bring her summer clothes home.

At the dormitory stairwell, Su Xun carried large and small bags down the stairs. It wasn't an easy task for someone as petite as her. A thin layer of sweat quickly appeared on her nose, and her face turned red. Fortunately, she only lived on the third floor.

When Su Xun reached the top of the stairs on the second floor, she found a shadow blocking her way.

Looking up, I saw Song Lisha.

The girl must have just gone to the dormitory to take off her oversized school uniform and changed into a set of casual clothes: a beige sweater paired with a plaid skirt, which perfectly accentuated her tall figure. Her expression was arrogant, just like usual.

Su Xun found it strange. She and Song Lisha basically had no interaction in class. She was usually quiet and unremarkable in class, while Song Lisha was noticed by the teacher because of her appearance and was always the focus of the class.

Looking at the situation now, it seems like I did something to upset her.

Before Su Xun and Song Lisha could greet each other, the woman on the other end suddenly moved, snatched the bag from Su Xun's hand and threw it on the ground, raised her eyebrows, and then a high-pitched female voice entered Su Xun's ears.

"What's your relationship with Pei Ke? Why are you two always together?"

Suddenly being blocked at the stairwell, having something snatched from her hand, and then hearing such a sarcastic remark, even if Su Xun was slow-witted, she now understood what it meant.

Besides, Su Xun wasn't stupid. Having read so many romance novels, he had gained some understanding of relationships between girls.

Despite being yelled at, Su Xun was surprisingly calm, which even surprised herself.

Calmly placing the bag in her other hand on the floor, she looked up at Song Lisha with a composed expression: "You may have misunderstood something."

"Then why do you two walk so close every day? And last time, why did he pass you notes? You must be doing something shady." Song Lisha clearly didn't believe her and continued to press.

"He and I are deskmates, so naturally we're close. The last time we passed notes was for studying. You can ask the teacher if you don't believe me. Anyway, you're overthinking it."

After saying that, he picked up the bags from the ground and from Song Lisha's hands and left quickly.

Song Lisha clearly wanted to ask something more, but seeing that Su Xun, who was usually timid and didn't even dare to speak loudly, dared to walk away directly, she angrily stomped her feet several times on the spot.

After leaving the dormitory building and exiting the school gate, Su Xun finally couldn't hold back anymore. It was the first time she had been put in such a difficult position. Her nose suddenly stung, and her eyes seemed to be covered with a layer of mist.

I got home at noon. When I opened the door, the house was empty. My parents were still in the shop, and my younger brother was probably still in class.

Su Xun lost her appetite for lunch and went straight back to her room, burying herself in the blankets.

She couldn't cry anymore; she closed her eyes and recalled what had just happened.

Thinking about it carefully, she and Pei Ke were quite close. They had known each other for six years, having been familiar with each other since elementary school. When they found out they were in the same class in junior high, it was inevitable that they would feel a sense of closeness.

However, she hadn't thought that much about it before. She felt that she had a clear conscience, but in the early stages of their youth, their relationship was always seen as having a different kind of feeling by others.

Since we met, Pei Ke has always been an excellent student in the eyes of the teachers. He has good grades, is humble and polite, and is a top student in the eyes of his classmates. He comes from a good family, is good-looking, and has a gentle personality. He is the envy of the boys and the focus of the girls.

But having sat next to him for so long, Su Xun knew many details that other classmates couldn't. Pei Ke was actually quite arrogant at times, showing off in front of her, liking to tease her verbally, and being a picky eater.

But he would notice her discomfort, take care of her feelings in every way, and even teach her how to do her homework.

Thinking about it this way, Pei Ke really is a very, very good person. He's the kind of energetic, clean young man who reminds you of the dew on a spring morning.

It's so beautiful that you want to hide it in the softest part of your heart, so that no one will find out. Just think about it occasionally, and it's like taking a big bite of pink, making you feel sweet inside.

Lost in thought, Su Xun fell asleep on the bed. Her long, thick, seaweed-like black hair was casually spread on the pillow. She seemed to be dreaming of something wonderful, her cheeks flushed like a round, ripe apple.

I've been preparing for exams at school these past few days, and it's been quite tiring.

When we were young, seeing those young and beautiful boys always reminded us of spring. Because at that time, we hadn't had time to see much of the world. In our still very innocent minds, spring was the most beautiful thing. Even the rolling thunder in February seemed like a hymn to the restless blood of youth.
