Chapter Twenty-Two: Camping and Training Exercises

I dragged my tired body back to the dormitory.

It wasn't lights out yet, and two girls were chatting on a bed in the girls' dormitory. This was one of the few times they could speak loudly and freely. They were chattering away, as if they were about to burst out laughing, discussing their feelings about the past few days. However, the topic they talked about most was the end of this event.

"I can go home in two more days, I really can't take it anymore."

"I miss the snacks at home. I wonder if my sister has found the snacks I hid in my room."

"I would rather be in class; I have never missed Mr. Liu's loud voice so much."

"But I'm quite reluctant to part with it."

"Yes, we're leaving soon. Do you think we should prepare a small gift for the instructors?"

The ten-day event was coming to an end in just two or three days. Finally, they could end this inhuman life. Although they had gotten used to the strict and self-disciplined lifestyle here, they really missed the days of attending classes in the classroom. Although they had to attend classes and hand in assignments, they were very free. So their tone was filled with undisguised joy, and they had even thought about how to tell their families about the hardships they had endured these past few days.

Amidst the joy, there was also a touch of reluctance. Although the time was short, they had already developed a tacit understanding and bond with their instructors, and they might never see each other again after the activity ended.

After the initial joy came sighs.

It was a cloudy day, and it felt like autumn had arrived overnight. There was a chill in the air, and a gust of wind blew through the thin fabric, making people shiver.

Fortunately, Su Xun had brought a thicker coat, which was both convenient and warm to wear underneath.

The afternoon is a field training exercise, which, judging from the name, means a long walk. Today they will depart from the military base and walk to a lake about five kilometers away.

Before setting off, the instructors reminded everyone to bring water, stay with the group, and not fall behind.

The route followed a mountain road, a flat cement road with little traffic, making it relatively safe. Having spent so many days here, mostly wandering around the military base and its vicinity, everyone was excited to finally be able to go somewhere further away. They even forgot the instructors were still ahead, their heads constantly darting around, though they were still in the middle of the group. Surprisingly, this time the instructors didn't mind too much and just went along with them.

The mountains are green, the water is blue, and there's an indescribable, pleasant smell in the air.

Although it was a five-kilometer walk, no one felt tired or bored. Some even started whispering among themselves. Sometimes, when the instructors spoke too loudly, they would gently remind them. And so, they reached their destination in a harmonious manner.

This is a lake, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with a grassy clearing on the other side. The lake water is a deep green, like a huge piece of jade hidden among the mountains. Occasionally, a gentle breeze will sweep by, breaking the tranquility and creating ripples.

This is a great place to rest and enjoy the scenery.

The instructor led everyone to the grassy clearing, and after counting off, he had them sit down in a circle to rest for a while.

Not far away were several other classes that had already arrived, sitting on the ground like them. The instructors squeezed in a seat among them, chatting and enjoying themselves.

The people and the scenery create a very harmonious picture.

I don't know who suggested playing games first, but several classes started playing simple games on the spot, filled with laughter and joy. This was a rare sight during the many days of training, when they usually stood upright with serious expressions.

The students in the second company were chatting. The bolder boys joked with the instructors, while the other students listened and occasionally chimed in. But after a while, they got bored. So, the class monitor, Shu Lin, suggested that the students with talents perform a talent. The students cheered and agreed. The instructors, of course, also wanted to see what special skills these kids had, so they agreed as well.
