City of Chaos 09

City of Chaos 09

Ning Ren didn't let Jie Ling hold him all the time. This world was strange and new to him.

The City of Chaos consists of the Central Royal City, the Central Enclosure, the Outer City, two major trade ports, and three major resource transfer stations. Built on the edge of an abyss, it backs onto the mithril mines to the north. Stretching for thousands of miles to the west and south of the Outer City is the territory of the Mi Clan.

The Central Royal City is the most heavily guarded, with imposing buildings. Outsiders are not allowed to enter unless invited. Every floor tile is extremely hard, neat and clean.

There are no green plants or flowers here, it looks like a huge cold monster.

Jie Ling stared intently at the child who insisted on leaving by himself.

The Central Royal City has a high safety factor. As the core of the City of Chaos, the people coming and going here are administrators and guard captains from all over the royal city, and there are no irrelevant species.

Before coming out, he had sent his subordinates to clear the way, and the team of elite guards he brought with him was hiding in the dark, so he could let Ning Ren go by himself without worry.

"It's not fun at all," Ning Ren walked for a long time but didn't get far. He hugged Jie Ling's legs again and said in a muffled voice, "There is no big ship, no delicious smell, no trash can, no flowers, and no little red bear." It's not fun at all.

It was so lively when he followed the red bear mother off the boat!

He squeezed out from among so many legs and saw the vast ocean at the dock, and so many species that looked different from him.

Jie Ling took his hand and squatted down to discuss: "If you want to see these things, they are available in Zhongwei."

Ning Ren: "Middle circumference?"

Jie Ling: "It's the inner circle of territory surrounding the Royal City's sentry tower. Most of your people live here, and it's thriving and bustling. Merchants from the outer cities also come in regularly, which is quite interesting. You'll find lots of delicious food there."

"After we get there, we'll send A Ren to Slave Street."

Jie Ling sighed softly in her heart: "Yes."

The young master didn't know what a slave was. In the City of Chaos, the word "slave" was synonymous with an ant. Once bought as a slave, one's life and death were beyond their control, as lowly as dust and mud.

These basic concepts were what the leader, as a father, should personally teach; he shouldn't interfere. However, perhaps he should mention it to the leader and gently correct the young master's perceptions.

It’s a pity that things didn’t go as planned.

Jie Ling brought Ning Ren to the center of the chaotic city.

As soon as they entered the Central Enclosure, the atmosphere suddenly became lively. This was a market place, connected to the Outer City. Today was the once-in-seven-days period when people from the Outer City were allowed to enter the Central Enclosure for trade, and the comings and goings of various races were bustling.

The street is patrolled by guards and is lined with shops on both sides.

Thumbelina's little flower garden, the cool butterfly's psychedelic pink, the long-legged octopus's custom-made suits, Uncle Elm's tree hole hut...

There is order mixed in with chaos, and the colors of various ethnic groups are blended in this cold city, like a piece of colorless ice, reflecting colorful light.

The central royal city is solemn and cold, but the inner area is lively and bright.

Ning Ren was held by Jie Ling, his eyes looking around, dazzled.

He saw many children, both adults and children, with tails like him!

These are the same Mili Sai as Ning Ren.

There are usually adult Militias following the children, perhaps parents or relatives. They wrap their long tails around the cubs to prevent them from getting lost or injured.

Jie Ling restrained his aura and kept a low profile, so no one recognized him for a while.

He whispered in Ning Ren's ear:

"When the chief first took the throne, Chaos City wasn't as prosperous as it is now. Only the port and the docks were open to the outside world. After the chief took the throne, he allowed outsiders to take root in the outer city and enter the inner city. He carried out drastic reforms to Chaos City, turning it into a small place where hundreds of races could coexist."

"These foreign tribes that come here bring all kinds of information and resources. Therefore, apart from the City of Chaos, no other tribe can establish such a large information network."

Ning Ren didn't quite understand what he heard. He concluded that his bad father who had skinned him twice was very powerful, but he didn't take it to heart. Instead, he was ready to make something else as he touched the cold snacks he had secretly put in his pocket that morning.

He really wants to eat it.

There was a sudden commotion on the street ahead. A clumsy red bear stumbled forward, and angry curses were heard from behind.

"Damn slave! How dare you run away!"

The little red bear rolled over and hid in a pile of debris on the side of the road.

Ning Ren exclaimed, "Little Red Bear!"

He struggled to get down, and as soon as Jie Ling let him go, he ran straight to the pile of debris. The little red bear dove into the cardboard boxes and wood scraps, with only his short trembling tail sticking out.

The child squatted down and knocked on the cardboard box: "Little Red Bear is me! It's A Ren!"

Jie Ling stopped beside him, frowning slightly.

The shivering red bear cub turned around, revealing only half of its face, and looked at Ning Ren with panic in his eyes, "Yes, it's you... Little Red Cloak..."

"That's right, it's A Ren."

“Gu——”

The red bear cub's stomach made hungry noises.

Ning Ren was very worried about the friend he just met, so he reluctantly took out the snacks he had hidden and gave half of them away.

"What's wrong with you? Didn't you sell yourself?"

He remembered that it was the little red bear who told him that if he sold himself he would not go hungry.

The little red bear grabbed the snack and gobbled it up, even bending down to lick the crumbs that fell on the ground.

"No, don't sell yourself! You'll get beaten! Don't go to Slave Street! You'll starve!"

The red bear cub shed tears, let down its guard, and crawled out of the paper box, exposing the other half of its body to Ning Ren's eyes.

It was covered with whip marks and burns, some of the blood had not yet dried, the hair had clumped together, and there was a faint stench of decay.

Ning Ren was stunned.

Little Red Bear stared at the other half of the dessert in Ning Ren's hand, and finally just licked his palm, recalling the taste of the dessert. It was truly the most delicious dessert he had ever eaten.

This is completely different from what Ning Ren thought.

Little Red Bear: "Being a slave is not good at all. My brother was beaten to death, and my sister's skin was peeled off by the master..." This cub from a different tribe, in an ignorant and innocent tone, vaguely revealed the bloodiness and cruelty of the word "slave".

Ning Ren shuddered subconsciously, but could not hear what Little Red Bear said next. Jie Ling picked him up, pressed his head on his shoulders, and blocked his ears.

He didn't expect Little Red Bear to say this to the young master.

"Excuse me, please! Make way, make way! I'm sorry, I caught a slave who ran away!"

A gruff voice approached from afar. The spider boss, holding a pancake flipper, rushed over with great momentum. He caught a glimpse of the little red bear's conspicuous fur and immediately flew into a rage: "Great! Here it is!"

He grabbed the red bear cub with his big hand.

"This young slave is so pitiful. He didn't meet a good master..."

The people around were pointing and talking, but he didn't stop them. No matter where they were, slaves who had been sold were private property. Even if they were beaten to death in the street, as long as the blood was cleaned up after the beating, no one had the right to interfere.

Spider Boss saw Jie Ling standing there with a frown on his face. He took one look at his elegant and sophisticated attire and smiled flatteringly. "I'm so sorry I scared your kids. I'm leaving now. If you have time, bring your kids to my pancake stand and buy some pancakes. I'll give you a discount!"

In public, Jie Ling had no reason to keep the red bear cub, so he stepped aside and made way, thinking about bringing back the cub that the young master knew later.

But unexpectedly, Ning Ren suddenly started to tremble.

He smelled the aroma of pancakes coming from the spider boss, and saw the little red bear covered with bruises, and he was suddenly back to the most frightened and helpless moment when he first came into this world.

"Don't burn A Ren! Flame!" Ning Ren closed his eyes tightly, extremely frightened, and his body temperature dropped rapidly. "A Ren, I don't want to make pancakes anymore, A Ren, I don't want to make pancakes anymore..."

[Damn! Isn’t this Spider Boss the one who scared the cub with the flames at the beginning?!]

[Is Zizi under the same stress again as before?]

[Damn it! Why hasn’t Spider Boss’s pancake shop closed down yet? I’m so heartbroken!]

"Young Master!"

Jie Ling called him anxiously in a low voice.

Spider Boss felt vaguely familiar. He took a closer look at the cub Jie Ling was holding. The cub's recognizable gray-blue hair made his heart skip a beat. "Why is it..."

Jie Ling's eyes were as cold as a knife: "What is it?!"

The spider boss shuddered, feeling extremely horrified.

He recognized it. The person in this person's arms was the Red Bear hybrid that had come to beg at his pancake stall when he was setting up a stall in the outer city two days ago?! How...

The spider boss's eyes fell on the short silver tail behind Ning Ren. What kind of hybrid is this? This is clearly an extremely noble silver-tailed Mirsai cub!

"Nothing, nothing..." Spider Boss said awkwardly, backing away quickly. "I've caught the slave, so I'm leaving now."

Jie Ling raised her hand coldly, "Catch him! Keep the slave somewhere else!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a team of elite guards appeared almost out of thin air, covered the Spider Boss's mouth, and disappeared into the noisy street in the blink of an eye.

Jie Ling also quickly returned to the Central Royal City holding the trembling cub.

After they left, the crowd erupted in even louder discussion:

"Oh my god! I recognized him! That's Right Inspector Jie Ling!"

"The ones that just appeared were a branch of the elite Shadow Guards!"

"Damn, that's so handsome!"

"What's so handsome about him? Jie Ling is not a pure member of the Mi tribe. The most handsome one is still Lord Ninglie!"

"What are you talking about? Isn't the focus on the cub in Lord Jie Ling's arms? What kind of status does it have that Lord Jie Ling can personally guard it, and even assign a team of elite soldiers to secretly guard it?"

"Could it be——"

"It's the Young Master! He's the Young Master who was just recognized during the Light Pillar Sacrifice two days ago!"

"Young Master is so small!"

The news spread like wildfire, and wave after wave of Milisi came to the place where Jie Ling had just left, staring eagerly at the heavily guarded Central Royal City.

Jie Ling walked hurriedly, comforting the cub in her arms while rushing into the closed meeting hall with a serious expression.
