Chapter 70 Rescuing People from a Secret Realm They Couldn't Leave On Their Own
The old man said, "You little rascal, you're really strange. If you really want me to teach you my skills, why don't you become my disciple and I will pass on my own techniques to you?"
Li Fu jumped up, dumbfounded. Song Yin's luck was so strong that she could trigger an opportunity even after encountering danger and hiding in a cave. He had never seen anything so bizarre.
Song Yin waved her hand in disappointment, her voice low, "You're a magic cultivator, your cultivation method isn't suitable for me. I have a master, and if he finds out I've taken another person as my master, he'll definitely skin me alive."
Li Fu: You refused?!
The old man wasn't annoyed and still kindly asked, "What do you want? Consider it a token of your gratitude for helping me to be buried peacefully."
Shi Heming glanced at the old man without showing any emotion, asking if he knew that the Youjin Stone in his arms had been taken away.
Song Yin continued filling the hole with soil: "I didn't help you for nothing; I've already accepted the thank-you gift."
The old man calculated with his fingers, then smiled with relief, "No wonder, you little rascal have good taste." He looked at the jade pendant, sighed deeply, and said with a tone of disappointment yet magnanimity, "Alas, keep the jade pendant. If you meet someone destined to have it, give it to them. If not... then it's up to you to do with it."
The old man's figure gradually became transparent.
Song Yin raised her eyelids, remained silent for a moment, then removed the soil covering the jade pendant and picked it up.
The old man was indeed not lying; his spirit did not last until dawn before it began to dissipate.
To encounter a few living people before completely disappearing, and to have one's remains laid to rest, is perhaps a small but fortunate thing in a long and unfortunate life.
Lao Tzu's spirit vanished completely in his final sigh.
What is contained in a sigh?
Reluctance to part? Regret? Or unfulfilled desire? Or perhaps his self-evaluation of his life? Perhaps none of these, or perhaps all of them, because the emotions contained in that sigh were simply too complex.
Song Yin and the others had no way of knowing.
After filling in the last shovelful of soil, Song Yin patted the loose mound of earth with the shovel before putting it back into her storage bag.
Song Yin walked back to where she was sitting and asked Li Fu, "Aren't you going to sleep?"
"I'm not sleeping anymore." Things had developed too surreal; how could he possibly continue sleeping?
The three of them sat in meditation until the sky outside gradually brightened.
Shi Heming continued to send out paper dolls to observe the situation.
"The skeleton rabbits are all asleep, let's hurry up and go."
The three flew out of the great rift.
As Song Yin flew upwards, she looked down and saw many pairs of red eyes flashing deep within the crack.
After completely flying away from the territory of the Bone-Eating Rabbits, Song Yin said to Shi Heming, "Thanks to you for stopping me yesterday, I saw quite a few eyes below when I left just now."
Li Fulai completed his goal in the Floating Dream Secret Realm, and he finally collected seven Divine Soul Grasses.
"I won't continue with you. I need to leave the secret realm early to retrieve the Soul Grass and rescue my master. I wish you a safe journey ahead."
Song Yin: "Goodbye."
Li Fu watched the two leave, and then, following the method he had learned, he voluntarily left the secret realm.
A few minutes passed, and Li Fu began to panic.
How could this be? The incantation to leave the secret realm isn't working.
Perhaps due to local reasons, Li Fu bypassed the territory of the Skeleton Rabbit and flew back to the outer edge of the secret realm.
He tried again and again, but he still couldn't leave the secret realm.
We're doomed. Now we can only wait for the secret realm to close on its own before sending everyone out. Or, the worst-case scenario is that everyone will be trapped in the secret realm and never be able to get out.
Unable to escape, Li Fu did not continue exploring the secret realm, but instead stayed in the safest outer perimeter to wait for the secret realm to end.
On the second day of the secret realm, only Li Fu was thinking about leaving, so he is the only one who has discovered that the secret realm cannot be escaped on his own.
On the other side, Xia Xining was lucky enough to run into a group of fellow disciples, which made her feel much more at ease. However, whenever they encountered something good, they would argue for most of the day over who should own it.
This made her miss Song Yin and the others terribly. When she was with Song Yin and the others, they never argued or dragged their feet when dividing things.
I don't know how Song Yin and the others are doing. There are too many people, so it's not convenient to ask them using the communication stone.
Song Yin and Shi Heming made their way forward, taking any rare and precious materials they encountered as long as it was safe to do so, and immediately detouring if there was any danger. They would never be so reckless as to challenge anything.
On the way, Song Yin saw two inhuman corpses wearing the robes of the Immortal Cloud Sect disciples. Upon closer inspection, she discovered that the two were Zhu Guanghao and Sun Ke.
Shi Heming turned Zhu Guanghao's body over. "The wounds were definitely not inflicted by a monster. They were murdered by humans."
Song Yin's expression was solemn, as was her examination of Sun Ke's body.
Upon seeing the identification tag with footprints on the ground, Song Yin held the tag up to the bottom of the corpse's feet and compared it to the tag.
“Even if they don’t recognize the Immortal Firmament Sect’s disciple robes, they can still recognize the three characters ‘Immortal Firmament Sect’ on their identity tags. The footprints on the identity tags don’t belong to either of them, so they must have been left by the murderer. The murderer knew they were Immortal Firmament Sect disciples but still killed them without hesitation, and even deliberately stepped on the side of the identity tags with the three characters ‘Immortal Firmament Sect’ engraved on them. The murderer probably dislikes people from the Immortal Firmament Sect.”
Shi Heming: "They were all at the Golden Core stage and were still brutally killed. Their opponents were quite strong. We should be careful on the journey ahead."
Song Yin placed the identity token back on Sun Ke and began to use magic to search for his soul.
The spell ended, and nothing happened.
Song Yin: "His soul has also been erased, there's no hope for him, let's go."
"Um."
After walking a few hundred meters, they encountered the corpse of another disciple of the Immortal Firmament Sect.
Song Yin checked his ID card, "Wei Gang."
If he wasn't someone I knew, why did he die?
Shi Heming: "The wounds are the same as the previous two, so the murderer is the same person."
Song Yin: "There really are people who specifically target disciples of the Immortal Firmament Sect to the death." Looking down at her disciple's robes, she said, "Let's change out of our disciple's robes and just wear any kind of magic robe to look like rogue cultivators."
"Can."
After changing into their monastic robes, the two reunited. Song Yin was wearing a green monastic robe, while Shi Heming was wearing a white monastic robe.
"You have so many white clothes."
Shi Heming looked at his clothes and said, "They were all bought before, so most of them are white."
Song Yin: "Let's go. Let's try to survive until we reach our destination today."
The reason for using the word "苟" (gǒu) is because they encountered many dangers along the way, and each time they actively avoided danger or hid themselves.
Deep within the secret realm lies another forest.
It was evening.
Song Yin held the map. "We're almost there. There are ruins in the forest. What I'm looking for is in those ruins."
They never stopped traveling, and to enter the ruins, they needed to adjust their bodies to their best condition in order to deal with the dangers within.
Shi Heming: "Let's find a safe place to rest for the night."
Song Yin: "Mm."
The two found themselves under a giant tree with a thick trunk and gnarled, protruding roots. The terrain was flat, and there were no poisonous snakes, mosquitoes, or signs of monsters around.
In order not to reveal their location, they did not light a fire.
Shi Heming set up a defensive formation and released several paper talisman figures to observe the surroundings at all times.
The moonlight shone brightly through the clouds, filtering through the branches and casting dappled shadows that seemed to coat the areas with silver frost. Only the leaves rustled, and the birds, noisy during the day, slept peacefully along with all other life.
Shi Heming, who was meditating with his back against the tree trunk, twitched his ears.
In the quiet environment, the sound of branches snapping and the rustling of people walking through the woods could be heard.
The paper doll conveyed a message that two people were approaching them.
Shi Heming tried to get up, but Song Yin pressed him down with one hand, while her other hand was already gripping the hilt of her sword.
Song Yin transmitted her voice: "They might just be passing by. Let's not alert them."
Shi Heming patted Song Yin's hand to indicate that he understood.
"Senior Brother, hang in there. It's safer here. Let's find a place to sit down and I'll heal you," Wu Jue said worriedly, afraid that Xiao Daiheng would faint.
The voice sounded so familiar, Song Yin opened her eyes.
Wu Jue carried Xiao Daiheng forward, stepping into the defensive formation set up by Shi Heming. He crashed solidly into the barrier, seeing stars, but he didn't forget to keep the injured Xiao Daiheng on his back to prevent him from falling and aggravating his injuries.
Realizing he had trespassed, Wu Jue immediately said, "Sorry, I didn't mean to trespass."
He had to take Xiao Daiheng to a new, safe place; it wasn't safe with strangers around.
"Wait a minute," Song Yin called out to Wu Jue.
She remembered that this was the same inner disciple who had told her that Xiao Daiheng was a fellow disciple who cultivated the Path of Ruthlessness.
Thanks to her good eyesight, Song Yin saw that Wu Jue was carrying Xiao Daiheng on his back.
Song Yin said to Shi Heming, "The person on his back is Xiao Daiheng, a direct disciple of Lingpo Peak."
Unlike other disciples, he was a direct disciple of one of the six inner peaks, so he had no choice but to save him.
Shi Heming opened an entrance to the formation.
Wu Jue also saw the people inside the formation; he recognized Song Yin and Shi Heming.
Seeing Song Yin was like seeing a savior, and they immediately ran over.
After the person entered, Shi Heming immediately closed the entrance to the formation, and the defensive formation returned to its complete state.
"Please, Senior Sister Song, save my senior brother!"
Song Yin was startled: "Your cultivation is higher than mine, so don't call me senior sister."
Wu Jue: "You're a direct disciple, so it's no big deal for me to call you 'Senior Sister.'" As long as it saves our senior brother, calling him 'Senior Sister' is fine, even calling him 'ancestor' wouldn't be a problem. "Senior Sister Song, my senior brother is seriously injured. We fought our way here from the outer perimeter, and we've run out of medicine. The six peaks of the inner sect are one family; please, save my senior brother!"
Song Yin stood up: "Put the person on the ground first."
Wu Jue carefully put Xiao Daiheng down and laid him on the ground.
Song Yin stepped forward, raised her hand, and released her spiritual energy to examine Xiao Daiheng's entire body.
"He has multiple fatal wounds, three broken ribs, and fire-attribute spiritual energy surging wildly within his body." Song Yin asked Wu Jue, "What kind of spiritual root does he have?"
Wu Jue immediately replied, "Single Ice Spirit Root."
Song Yin: "I'll give him a pill to save his life. You can draw out the conflicting spiritual energy in his body."
"Thank you so much, Senior Sister Song!" Wu Jue breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, he had encountered a fellow disciple, and a direct disciple of Danque Peak at that, so he didn't have to worry about the other party resorting to underhanded tactics. If it had been any other disciple of the Xianxiao Sect, he wouldn't have felt comfortable entrusting his senior brother to them.
After swallowing the pill, Wu Jue immediately drew out the fire-attribute spiritual energy from Xiao Daiheng's body.
Once all the fire-attribute spiritual energy was drawn out, Xiao Daiheng's complexion improved somewhat.
Song Yin checked Xiao Daiheng's condition again, "You fought your way here, did you attack every monster or enemy you encountered?"
Wu Jue: "What else can we do if we don't fight when we encounter monsters and enemies? We are sword cultivators, and we would never do anything cowardly like running away."
They were all sword cultivators. Shi Heming looked at Wu Jue and the others, who had fought bravely but were seriously injured. Then he looked at himself and Song Yin, who had followed Song Yin's advice and fled all the way here, yet were completely unharmed.
Why do you have to do that?
Song Yin fell silent upon hearing his impassioned tone. She was sorry; she had disgraced the sword cultivators. She would continue to run away if her life was in danger again.
Midway through the examination, Song Yin's expression turned serious, and she asked Wu Jue earnestly, "Does he have an inner demon?"

Author's Note: Song Yin: I didn't plan to save him, but seeing that he was a direct disciple of one of the six inner peaks, I had no choice but to lend a hand. [Waving hand]
Wu Jue: I knew God was kind to us! We actually encountered a direct disciple of Danque Peak! This is wonderful! My senior brother is saved! [bursting into tears]
Wu Jue and Xiao Daiheng will be of great help to Yin Yin later on. [rose emoji]
Yinyin's later comment: Luckily, I saved someone back then [doge head with rose in hand]
